Re: Death Pool
That is so bizzare. I can understand the fiance wanting her privacy, but why did no one report about it?

Fuller story here:
http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/1132769--degrassi-star-neil-hope-died-in-2007-family-only-learned-news-last-month
It seems he wasn't in touch with family. Very sad.
http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/1132769--degrassi-star-neil-hope-died-in-2007-family-only-learned-news-last-month
It seems he wasn't in touch with family. Very sad.
The former fiancée of Degrassi star Neil Hope, who played Derek “Wheels” Wheeler, says the actor was found dead by police in a rooming house in Hamilton more than four years ago, unbeknownst to friends and family until earlier this year.
“I was shocked,” said Christina Boulard, fighting back tears in an interview with the Star. Boulard, 37, and Hope dated between 1998 and 2001 and were engaged until the relationship ended amicably.
But Boulard said when Hope’s brother Danny and his wife, Tracy, began hearing rumours of his death two or three years ago, they brushed it off.
Hope was a very private man, not one to keep up daily or even monthly contact, Boulard said — “That was Neil.”
But two years went by and no one had heard from him.
“That’s when we started to worry,” she said.
Boulard said she lost touch with Hope in 2002, but remained in contact with his family through Facebook.
When they hadn’t heard from Hope, they called Boulard. Finally, they contacted Hamilton Police.
Boulard said police told Hope’s family they had record of someone who had died, but the names and birth date didn’t match up with Hope’s.
She said the family clung to that, hoping it wasn’t him.
But finally, in January of this year, Boulard said police confirmed that Hope had died of “natural causes” in November 2007 at the age of 35.

Re: Death Pool
Ah. I misread the National Post article as saying the fiance definitively knew he died in 2007, but kept it secret for privacy reasons. Of course, the real story is even more bizarre and heartbreaking.

This makes me SOOOO sad! I loved Original Degrassi and Wheels was a great character. I remember his last episode on the Next Generation. Man....a part of my childhood just died!

Wheels was always my favorite character on Degrassi. It breaks my heart this guy died alone in a rooming house and then lay unburied for 5 months (probably because they were looking for his next of kin). I'm really sad about it.

TMZ.com is reporting that the Monkees' Davy Jones has died. http://www.tmz.com/2012/02/29/davy-jones-dead-monkees/#.T05mC_XNlGU
Grain of salt at this point, but sad, if true.

Davy Jones' passing makes me really sad. When I was little we found a Monkees record in my older sister's record collection and we listened to it all the time.

Re: Death Pool
I remember watching The Monkees when the show was airing for the first time. I loved their music. I don't care that they weren't a real band when they started, they still had some catchy tunes.
Evidently, Gene Roddenberry, who wanted to draw in teenage viewers, based the Star Trek character of Ensign Chekov on Davy.
RIP.

The show was absolutely ridiculous (and yes, I watched it first-run as a kid, too!) but it was such fun. He was much too young!

Re: Death Pool
The Monkees was my first internet fandom. I saved up and bought the box set of the show back when a box set was, like, the size of a refrigerator box because it had to hold 100 VHS tapes. I can't believe how sad this makes me.

For this day only, Micky-lovers will allow you the "cutest Monkee" designation.
I'm truly, truly bummed, and I thought I was sad about Whitney. Wishing peace to his family; this can't be easy.

Re: Death Pool
My little Monkees-loving heart is breaking. I used to watch reruns in the eighties and Davy was my first crush. Close to tears right now.
Re: Death Pool
Listening to "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones" right now. So sad. My entire office was in mourning today. I wish I could find a copy of him singing "Think About Your Troubles" from the London cast recording of "The Point". It seems appropriate today.
I am totally a Mike girl, but I always thought Davy had great comic timing and a nifty voice. For a band that was initially fabricated for tv, they had some amazingly unique voices.

Re: Death Pool
I'm heartbroken. He was totally adorable, and even though I never really thought he could sing all that well, the face, the accent and above all the personality, more than made up for it. RIP Davy.

Re: Death Pool
The more it sinks in, the more shattered I get. I have been immersing myself in Monkees music and remembering all of the hours I spent learning the guitar parts of their songs, watching the show (I have all of the episodes on tape), and fighting with my sister (in the 70s, when the show was syndicated) about whether I was allowed to look at the TV when Davy was on screen (she was VERY possessive!) I didn't realize until now how much a part of my life this person and band was...

I'm so shocked and heartbroken. All day I've been periodically remembering that he's dead and I'll just stand there all sad, not knowing what to do.

Re: Death Pool
I am seriously bummed about Davey Jones, RIP. Had such a crush on him, and I know 66 isn't young, but he was still so youthful looking that I never thought of him being the same age as my parents. So sad.
