Rewatching the season premiere, it struck me: This cast has the best balance of cast members that I've seen in years. And not to make comparisons to the closest thing that SNL has to a saint, but Bill Hader seems to play the same role as Phil Hartman: He has countless impressions, and you can cast him in any nearly role and know that he'll be good.

So, excellent cast, tight writing, and some serious breakout stars. This show is REALLY good again.

LOVE Bill Hader! I am also finding Bobby Moynihan to be a really solid performer, too.

That sketch last week, with Paul Brittain as the Renaissance boyfriend (Cecil?) with the big hat and tights had me rolling. I don't know if it was Jason Sudekis's character loving the boyfriend, or Bill Hader's character, but I thought it was great.

Moynihan is excellent. He seems to be doing a good job of keeping away from the Belushi trap, in which heavyset actors are expected to be wild men. Instead, he turns in solid and consistently funny performances on a weekly basis, and could become a big name in the cast if he keeps this up. I was iffy on Brittain until the Cecil sketch. That also had me rolling.

OMG, I loved Paul Brittain as Cecil! What a hilarious sketch. I hope Cecil pops up again, but not in the exact same set-up every time. Imagine Cecil as a teacher! Or as a waiter at a fancy restaurant! The possibilities are endless.

I've been pleasantly surprised so far by this season. Not all of the sketches or episodes have been perfect, but there's been a lot more that has made me laugh than most of last season. And the cast is pretty strong, especially when used effectively.

The new season's been solid, although I'm disapointed there isn't a Jon Hamm Halloween episode.

But they've seemingly realized giving Wiig the first sketch after the monologue killed the momentum, haven't used Fred's awful Obama, cut down on his obligatory stereotype sketch every night and none of the hosts so far were head-scratchers as a selection.

Whatever they're giving Hader, he's still totes underpaid. Loved his Eastwood impression a couple eps back.

We had let the season stack up on the TiVo and only watched the last three over the weekend -- pleasantly surprised! Someone over there forbade the extensive use of the Copy-Paste Sketch, Find-Replace Wackiness button and that is a good thing. (Though I always make an exception on that for Stefon...)

I was just coming to post the same thing! His Rick Perry thing during Update last night had me rolling.

I also love Kings of Catchphrase Comedy. I don't care if they do 50 of them (and knowing SNL, they probably will).

I agree with all of you, this season has been really good so far. It even made me like Charlie Day, who I usually can't stand.

I too, hate Charlie Day, but what I've seen so far has been good. Everyone's been passing around the Kardashians sketch, and deservedly so, but I totally loved the Greek Gods one too. Hee! And Charlie didn't even seem to use the cue cards, which is pretty much my number one judging criteria for a good host.

I had never heard of him, which is probably because the only time I see It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is when the DVR catches the end of it before The Daily Show, and I usually have to mute it because it's so annoying. But I thought he was great. (Although I felt a similar urge to mute when he was shrieking back and forth with Danny DeVito.) I think my favorite was the Greek gods too.

I agree Bill Hader is worth his weight in gold.

Normally I wouldn't be a huge fan of Kristen Wiig crashing a preexisting sketch, but her Kris Jenner was pretty hilarious.

I could not stop laughing every time they cut to Andy Samberg going "NGHGNGNN" in the Kardashian sketch.

It has to be a little disheartening that his most popular character is a throw away joke.

Pretty good episode. I was okay with Fred's Qadaffi cold open and spoofing CSI: Miami is the key to my heart. I had to rewind Seth's monlogue on the Euro crisis I was laughing so hard. Germance!

I loved the final sketch with Charlie Day as the detective who didn't watch TV, yet was familiar with CSI: Miami. It was silly, subtle and best of all, just the right length. The musical cue when he put on the sunglasses at the end made me giggle uncontrollably.

The rest of the episode? Eh. Charlie Day is pretty funny and had a lot of energy, but it didn't feel like they used him very well. Any cast member could have been the freakasaurus and Charlie could have gotten a bigger role in that Cee Lo sketch.

The episode got better as the night went on. Emma's character made Secret Word semi-tolerable. I like the Harvey Welsh sketches, but I wish they would find a new way to end them. I'm sure technology humping is a fetish in Japan.

I laughed more than I expected to at everyone crying at the Adele song, partly because my sister played that song for me, all reverently, and I was like "...are you kidding me with this" and she was like "LOOK, I LIKE TO WALLOW" and I basically made fun of her. I mean, I love me some Adele, but that song is SO emo that it goes around the corner and becomes hilarious to me. So everyone in the office crying and eating ice cream while listening to it worked pretty well for me.

"Technology Hump" was also funny -- the funniest thing to me was that it was hard to imagine they were allowed to show it, it was so porny, even as it was a digital camera clunking against an iPad. (Who's Harvey Welsh?) And I laughed a lot at the bachelorette-party one. I even managed to unmute the TV for some of Garth and Kat (the Chris Martin part). What did he say, something like "You can walk around eating chicken fingers at your leisure"?

Emma Stone is both funny and up for it. I hope she hosts again.

I really laughed during the Adele sketch, particularly when Coldplay were shown watching it on a monitor, crying their eyes out.

The wedding shower sketch and the humping techno ones were good too. This episode seemed to get better as it went on.

Yes, it did. The second half was unusually strong.

I think Secret Word could be a genuinely funny sketch if the format was occasionally switched up. Emma Stone was great as the beauty queen, and Bill Hader always gets in a few amusing zingers as the host. But Kristin Wiig always does the EXACT SAME THING as her character. We get it, she's going to say the secret word! It's gotten to the point that I fast forward when she starts talking in that sketch. Yet another one-note character of hers that needs to be retired.

I can't judge last night's episode with any sort of objectivity, since Muppets are my Kryptonite, and I spent the entire 90 minutes with a huge goofy grin plastered to my face. I will say that I would tune in every week if "REALLY?! With Seth And Kermit" became a regular thing.

They still haven't had a bad episode or a bad host all season. The Digital Short was my favorite. I loved the Muppets and glad they picked up on the fact that since Season 1 was on DVD everyone was reminded of the muppets year on there. I wish they made a sketch out of that and did some where are they now? type thing with Skred and the Mighty Favog.

I remember being unimpressed with Buscemi's last hosting gig, but I loved the short he did as the pawn broker who dealt in food.

This was fantastic, and all of Kermit's reactions to Seth's statistics were hilarious.

I thought Jason Segel did a nice job, and am seriously crushing on him right now. There were a couple of sketches where his involvement felt tacked on since he only appeared at the very end, but the monologue was incredible, he made the otherwise eyeroll-worthy Vogelcheck family sketch tolerable (plus bonus Paul Rudd!), he was hilarious in the Kemper-Pedic ad, and he does an AMAZING Andre the Giant impression.

I got seriously, seriously verklempt when Kermit appeared on Jason's shoulder at the end.

The Vogelchek skit had me laughing a lot, especially Jason and Paul Rudd at the end.

The retirement party one was just weird. It felt like it was on the cusp of being a really great, strange, off-kilter sketch, but it was just a mess. On the other hand, the shot of an open-mouthed Bobby Moynihan with the mustache on his face just slayed me.

Outside the New Jack sketch, Bobby had like 30 seconds of screen time and might have been the funniest performer with that alone.

No mention of the "J-Pop America Fun Time Now" skit from the Anna Faris episode? I thought that episode was pretty bad overall, but that sketch had me ROLLING on the ground in laughter. Being an Asian woman and having to deal with all the stereotypes of white people who've attached themselves to Japanese culture (all of whom assume I'm Japanese, which I'm not) made that all the funnier for me. My favorite part had to be Jason Sudeikis's character. "You're riding a fine line between homage and racism, kids."

Another good episode. Even had the good sense to hold the Wiig sketch to the back half.

Despite Fred's as always flat Obama, I liked the cold open. "If I was giving this speech during a game you'd never see it. Even if it was the Cardinals vs. the Jaguars."

Paul Brittan got a lot to do. Nice return of the Sex Ed seminar although I would have loved him to mispronounce "La Quinta" again.

The coach sketch was the standout. "Is it the moustache?!"
