Re: Publishing Scandals
But it makes ZERO sense. My friend's 12-year old son is waiting on seeing THG because his ENTIRE CLASS is going together, during school, next week. THAT is the type of demographic power that series has. A BDSM "romance" won't even have the drawing power that The Vow had.
I'm really starting to doubt some of these figures though. Everything about this seems so manufactured and contrived and all these connections between publications and pr people. I don't even know what to believe.

And I imagine that to make the film commercially appealing, alot of the BDSM content is going to get watered down. Would they seriously put that tampon scene in the movie? How are they going to deal with storyline about the guy's relationship with his mother's friend that started when he was 15(!!) years old?swsa wrote: A BDSM "romance" won't even have the drawing power that The Vow had.
It'll be interesting to see if this movie ever gets made but then again, I never imagined that an Oscar winning director (even if it was for writing) would be involved with the Twilight films so who knows. I can only look forward to all the good snarking that will come out of this.

Can you post the link here? I looked but couldn't find it.Jude wrote:I followed the link that PrincessCleo provided on Twitter to the account by the fanfic author who worked with James on her former website, and now I'm even more disgusted that she's getting so much attention. The world sucks.

Obama discusses the novel with Ari Emanuel! I really hope Michelle kicked his ass when she found out that he had said she enjoyed it. Though the most interesting part of the article is that James thought she could tell Ari not to have his cell phone at the table. I didn't know it would be possible to remove a cell phone from a Hollywood agents hand.

If I thought her team was full of shit before, now I think they're shameless. Yes, I'm sure Ari Emanuel just HAD to be in on such a CRUCIAL meeting.biakbiak wrote:Obama discusses the novel with Ari Emanuel! I see she's moved from Twilight fic to real person fic.
Re: Publishing Scandals
I'm honestly finding this offensive. She's literally leaking BS to the media in order to get "First Lady loves Fifty!" headlines. It's sick. And the thing is, this is such small potatoes that no one is ever going to ask AE about this so he can say "Uh what?"

Re: Publishing Scandals
Did Harry Potter ever get the cover of EW that wasn't related to the movies? I thought most of the covers were tied to the movies, similiar to Twilight which I am pretty sure got 8 million different covers
The release of Deathly Hallows got a cover.
"James -- a former television executive whose books were dubbed "mommy porn" in a March 9 article in The New York Times -- had a "no phones on the table" rule during her meeting with Emanuel, according to a source." I AM SO SURE. That just isn't true. I'm sorry. It just isn't.

I'm imagining someone asking the First Lady what she thinks of 50 shades of gray and she'll say, "I like to liven it up gray with a bright scarf or a colorful belt or brooch. Something that will pop."

I am embarrassed for the world at this point.
Also interesting: In the accompanying poll, nearly 50% of the people responding are like, "...I've never heard of this."

Kristen Stewart feeds the crazy. Oh honey, no.
Since fifty shades began as FF, you may wonder what Kristen Stewart has to say. "It's funny--I heard about it yesterday. Rob (Pattinson) and Wyck (Godrey), our producer, were talking about it. I've heard its quite sexy-very titillating." Will she read it? "Hell, yeah!"

Re: Publishing Scandals
Okay, so there is A LOT of hype about this book and people are rushing out to get it. Yer wan is getting a fuckton of money thrown at her. I'm going to say that it's success will be like the Irish property boom - artificial, highly over-inflated and will crash and burn shortly with lots of money owed by everyone concerned.
And then she'll have to go the IMF for publish something else and they'll be all "NEIN!" And we will laugh. HAHAHAHA! While we eat Samoas (which I have discovered I really really like).
Trust me, I'm a Guide leader.

Samoas (or as we are forced to call them in the Eastern US region, Caramel deLites) are the highest pinnacle of cookie achievement.
Edit: And I failed to notice that leone said the exact same thing before me. Clearly, you have tapped into a well of popular feeling!

Re: Publishing Scandals
Samoas vs. Caramel DeLites
I know this is off topic, but it's very important, as it concerns delicious cookies. When I read this post, I was confused by the Samoas/Caramel DeLites thing (I grew up in New England, and have known them as Samoas), and found this on the internet (have not confirmed separately):
"Samoas are one of the most popular variety of Girl Scout cookie sold by the Girl Scouts of the USA. These consist of a circular vanilla cookie about 2 inches in diameter with a small hole in the center, covered in caramel and toasted coconut and then striped with chocolate. This is one of the few cookies in the group that has differences depending on the bakery. The reason there are two names is because while similar, the cookies have some differences. Samoas are made by Little Brownie Bakers. They are circular, with an orange color and are thicker from top to bottom, usually they also contain more caramel per coconut, and they are made with dark chocolate. The Caramel deLites, made by ABC Bakers, are actually hexagonal, with a more yellowish tinge, are made with milk chocolate rather than dark chocolate, and more of the cookie comes through in the flavor because of the lower caramel content. Overall they are both very popular, and most people never notice the differences. Both varieties come in purple boxes. The two types of cookie account for 19% of Girl Scout cookie sales, making them the second most popular types."

Can I say that I love how we have digressed into Girl Scout cookies? Just so you know -- Thank Yous and the Peanut Butter Patties FTW.
As for the book? All this news, mixed with the racist reactions to THG and Awkward Black Girl have taken away any hope I have for humanity. If this is what we've got, fuck it, we're all toast.

Re: Publishing Scandals
If I could sneak back to the EW cover: this book only got the subscription cover. The actual newsstand one will be Katniss/the movie that's actually popular right now. HAH.
(I bet if the Times bestseller lists didn't keep the Hunger Games in the children's series ghetto, this nonsense wouldn't be anywhere near the top. Actually, I'd bet a number of adult books would be lower.)
I think Illinois is near a border on Girl Scout cookies because sometimes it's Samoas and Tagalongs and other years it's Carmel DeLites and Peanut Butter Patties. At least Thin Mints stay the same!

There have been years when I've been able to get both Samoas and Carmel DeLites, depending on whether the Girl Scout selling me cookies was from a troop in Minneapolis or St. Paul.I think Illinois is near a border on Girl Scout cookies because sometimes it's Samoas and Tagalongs and other years it's Carmel DeLites and Peanut Butter Patties.

I am so glad this isn't TWoP or I'd probably be banned for mentioning cookies in the first place and derailing the thread!
