So, I can't post it yet, but the second trailer for the RDJ/Jude Law movie is out and it looks AMAZING.

I am so excited for this ridiculous-looking movie. "DID YOU JUST KILL MY WIFE!?"

There was a lot of bang-pow-boom-REALLY BIG KABOOM in this movie, and they could have cut it down by about 15 minutes, but I still really enjoyed it. I love the rapport between Holmes and Watson (Jude Law is such a good Watson; I think I watch these even more for him than Downey Jr’s Holmes.), and it was in full form this time out. I loved Stephen Fry as Mycroft, he’s just the way I picture the character in the stories. I hadn’t seen the actor who played Moriarty before, but he was incredible—wait a minute, IMDB, that’s Richard Harris’s son?! No wonder he looked so familiar yet I couldn’t quite place him. I thought the slow-motion forest-running sequence went on too long, but I can forgive this movie anything for that final scene.

I’m not a fan of onscreen interpretations of Irene Adler since they are rarely an accurate portrayal of Doyle's original character, especially how she was used in the previous movie,

I loved Jared Harris as Moriarty. That's the malevolent math professor in my head and he was a good match with RDJ.

And as for Irene, I was sad, but not surprised. You had to establish how deadly Moriarty was immediately and what's better than clearing out a restaurant with the tapping of a glass and poisoning someone people were connected to?

And Stephen Fry as Mycroft was a pleasant surprise for me. I was afraid it would be stunt casting and it wasn't.

He really is. It's so funny that, with all the action-movie liberties these movies take, he's possibly the most accurate Watson's anyone had.

He wasn't initially the Moriarty in my head, but turned out really well, yeah. I loved how the final confrontation was, in actuality, almost entirely mental.

Who did you think of as Moriarty? I really liked the idea of DDL, but because he'd method act the FUCK out of it. Like publishing papers on astrophysics and math method acting.

But Jared Harris brought an icy coolness that RDJ's Holmes doesn't quite do. But I find RDJ!Holmes to be kind of like the Holmes I imagine on a coke bender.

Heh. See, I was just imagining the Sidney Paget illustrations from my Sherlock Holmes books, where Moriarty looks a lot more dour and saturnine. So a Moriarty who actually had, you know, a pleasant expression on occasion took a moment to get used to. I loved Jared Harris overall, but if we're talking about what we'd been seeing in our heads, yeah.

HE SO WOULD HAVE. He'd have been running an international crime syndicate out of the makeup trailer or something.

I liked how warm Harris was -- it definitely hid the calculating personality. Moran was also awesome to me. Animal and feral. I want a henchman like him.

DOC's crime syndicate. I'd love to her RDJ's stories about those days. "I'd tell you more but Daniel will kill me. Seriously, he will kill me."

My mother loved the movie, too, and the first thing she wanted to do when she got home after the movie: "I want to make that scarf!" You just can't stop a knitter. So I found some patterns for her and thought I'd share, in case any other Holmes fans here are also knitters.
