One thing I find disconcerting on pinterest is when you write something personal on a pin (for example I made a board of people I want to meet and say why in the description) and people repin it without editing it. I almost want to go comment on their pin to say "no, that's why vwlphb wants to meet them.

Even worse was when I put up pictures of dollpool and said "(made by me) ". Dear random repinners, I'm glad you like my work but please at least think of taking that last bit off.

I guess that's one benefit tumblr has over pinterest - because it at least quoted/referenced the previous and original posters' comments. As a post went around the site and back again it could get pretty long with all the reposting andnew comments though.

I attribute that to laziness/cluelessness (I've done it). It's the opposite thing that weirds me out. I follow a few mega pinners (people I don't know with a thousand followers, who Pinterest automatically signed me up to follow when I first joined, and I kept following because we do have overlapping taste). A couple times I've seen one of them pin something that I'm sure I pinned first from the original source (like a recipe I bookmarked years ago, but just pinned to Pinterest for easy reference), but then I'll see it in their pin feed, with comments from a ton of people, since they have so many followers. I'll think - hey, I pinned that! Is there any way to look up the pin chain of a particular pinned item? I agree, it could get super long.

I wish there was. I also wish you could see descendant pins as part of your count - like how many people repinned it from someone who repinned it from you. That would be pretty awesome.

I'm annoyed that the spammers have started overwhelming Pinterest. Whenever you go to the Geek label now, you're inundated with pins about clothes from various "people" posted to boards just called "geek." Why "Speedo Girls 7-16 Solid Cross Back Swimsuit" is geek, or "Seven Easy Pieces Modal Short Sleeve Sleep Tee" I don't know (other than the obvious spam). Also the random tech articles, like "3 Benefits To Owning A Refurbished Laptop." It's taking the fun out of looking for new pins within the site.

If they really want to fight spammers, there should be a "report" button alongside "repin," "like," and "comment" when you hover over a pin. Otherwise it would take too long to report the various spam accounts that are there.

Can someone explain some pinterest stuff for me? The numbers given above each board don't seem to be matching what's really there. For instance, my Woodcuts and Line Drawings board has "10 followers, 6 pins" written above the top, but there are 15 things inside that board, so shouldn't it say 15 pins? Or does it mean 6 REpins?

Is anyone else having trouble with the site? My homepage indicates that nobody I follow has posted anything at all since yesterday, and I find that hard to believe.

Yeah, it's broken right now. I'm seeing lots of people discussing it on Twitter.

I just saw the same spam pin for weight loss something or other 49 times in the Science and Nature category. And saw hard-core porn pinned for the first time. They really need to get their shit under control if they want to keep the reputation they have as a "safe" place on the web.

Some girl just repinned over 60 of my pins. Then didn't follow me. Is it weird that I want to go to her board and say "Seriously?!"

Eta: over 80 now. At some point you should stop repinning everything someone has pinned and just follow them.

All right, I feel like a complete idiot because I can't for the life of my figure out how to use Pinterest. What exactly am I supposed to do with it? A friend sent me an invite and I keep hearing people say how much fun it is, but what exactly am I supposed to do?

You follow some people, and search (with the search field) for pictures you like, then you add them to "boards" which are like folders on the desktop. I have a board for general art, one for line drawings (and things that are similar, like woodcuts, engravings, etc.), one for infrared photos, etc. You can also pin things from elsewhere on the internet using the bookmarklet. The joy is in collecting things. If you don't like to collect things at all, it's probably not for you.

One of my friends called it "shopping without spending any money". I also use it as another system for bookmarking things on the Internet for one reason or another. So it's practical and fantasy. Agree that it's not for everyone.

That's how I use it, as bookmarks with pictures. I mainly use it to save crochet patterns and recipes. It's a lot easier to scan through pictures of both of those things to find what I want then to go through my disorganized bookmarks list.

I've found some cute accessories and decorating ideas. I like to say it helps me be a more creative person, but in reality, like 90% of my pins are memes and lolcats.

This is fascinating to see how people use it. I did notice people pinning products and things (occasionally I do too) but for me it's mostly about the visual scenery. I've started collecting pictures related to books I read sometimes (historical stuff).

I really enjoy your pins, p_p.

My friends and I are big into arts and crafts so every few months we get together on a Saturday with wine and crafting supplies and usually ending up making stuff we see on Pinterest. I have a couple of yarn wreaths (made with varying degrees of success. DO NOT follow the pin about taping a pool noodle in a circle and making a wreath out of it...the wreath will fall apart a few days later leaving a lumpy yarny sad thing hanging on your door.)

It's SUPER useful as a teacher - I have a million boards divided up into sections about things I teach, and when it comes time to do those lessons, I just pull up that board and see if I forgot anything cool. Also, as a Montessori teacher, there are SO MANY things to teach, it's impossible to remember them all, and it is great to have a visual jog to the memory.

Also, I have boards of things I just like - rocks and animals and beautiful scenery and beautiful people. If you are a visually oriented person, it's very stimulating.

I am having a really weird glitch - when I click "login," I go to the login page where my email and password are saved, and then automatically redirected to the main page, where I am still not logged in. I cleared my cookies and username/password data and it still won't log me in. It's only a problem in Chrome... any ideas?
