New trailer

And some obligatory speculation.

Spoiler:
OK, before it was just my crazy-ass, probably-wrong theory, but I'm FAIRLY CERTAIN that the ship "Harrison" brings in to pummel the Enterprise with is a GOD DAMN GALAXY CLASS STARSHIP, aka The Enterprise-D, AKA Harrison is Picard.

I would say the ship is

Spoiler:
more of a Sovereign-class, which would make it the Enterprise-E,

but that's really splitting hairs on your larger point.

Plus: it's clear there is a meaningful spoiler. I just read an interview with Pine & Quinto, where they said that they were glad that they were going to be able to stop lying in a few weeks. So whatever it is, it's got to be-- or at least Abrams et al think it will be-- an utter jackhammer.

I'm going to push the whacked out speculation EVEN FURTHER.

Spoiler:
Whatever big gun opens up under the Mystery Ship reminds me - broadly, but clearly - of the Death Star knock-off used by Shinzon in Nemesis. Maybe Harrison's not Picard himself but another Romulan bred clone? Or maybe a Klingon one? Perhaps the Klingons of the 24th Century conquer the remnants of the Romulan Empire after Romulus is destroyed, find some leftover genetic soup from the Shinzon experiment and....

Well, now it's just bad fanfic on my part. But that single three-second shot just made the speculation fun ALL OVER AGAIN.

I love this crackpot theory. Is it exclusive to Snarkfest, or have other people speculated it as well?

I want to claim some credit for it-- I put it out there months ago, and I hadn't seen anyone else do it at the time*. Now I'm seeing other people float it, but I've talked about it in multiple places.

*- Especially since people STILL keep going, "I think he's Khan!" Sigh.

Only place I've ever seen it is here on SF or on posts I've made on Facebook where it's either been RiverThames putting it forward or me giving him credit as I talk about it.

I've seen input on a few other sites, like AICN and io9. I think we're just all brilliant together.

I've seen that spoiler go around and I'm hoping it's trolling. HOPING.

Augh. Because this bothers me to no end.

If that is the case it is SO uneccessary
Spoiler:
to ONCE AGAIN cast a Non Indian to play an Indian. At least RM was a minority, albeit the wrong one. I like Cumberbatch (as we all know) but if you looked up WASPY Motherfucker in Webster's his picture would be there. And frankly I'd expect more from JJ Abrams who in his tv shows has been one of the few people to actively cast minorities. This is just GROSS, if true.

OK. OK. Breathing.

OK, laddical, can you source this? I've checked a few reviews and none that I saw dropped that bomb, only referring to him as Harrison.

I think Kiran sums up my opinion as well.

Spoiler:
I am so hoping it's not true because I have no idea how that wouldn't get leaked. It logistically wouldn't make sense that it wouldn't get leaked and then holy hellfire comes raining down on everything. But if anything, it's a great marketing ploy to get everyone freaked out. I'm just pissed off now about the trolling. Like, "Motherfucker, I wanted to see this, but bullshit like this makes me tired and I'd rather see RED 2, This is the End or even Now You See Me before this movie because of the bullshit you're pulling."

Hmm. AICN has, in general, very little credibility with me. Would they write a Fake Review to troll, though? I'm not sure.

No, not in this case. And though Drew McWeeny doesn't come out and say it in his review here, his comments about dividing the fanbase are a confirmation-without-saying-it-out-loud to me.
