Re: Film Trailers
I don't know, I kind of love it. It reminds me a little bit of the neighborhood in Edward Scissorhands, the bizarro suburban satire parts.
Re: Film Trailers
I know very little about the original series except that it existed and my mom had watched it.
I'm still waiting for someone to make vampires scary again (legitimately scary, not "Underworld BDSM Hipster" "scary"), but as this was a Tim Burton-Johnny Depp project from the outset I never held out any hope that this would be the movie to do it.
So with zero foreknowledge and no expectations to speak of, I have to say I enjoyed the trailer and am interested in forking over my cash to see the rest.

Re: Film Trailers
Yes, that's about where I'm at as well. Add to that I'm pretty much over the whole Johnny Depp/Tim Burton pairing and Johnny's wacky character thing but even with that, when he was all REVEAL YOURSELF TINY SONGSTRESS I started to laugh. Hopefully not all the good lines and bits are in the trailer because I might be convinced to see this myself. Could be fun on a weekend.laddical wrote:So with zero foreknowledge and no expectations to speak of, I have to say I enjoyed the trailer and am interested in forking over my cash to see the rest.

I think I love that trailer. I had no idea what to expect but it wasn't that. This is something I'm going to have to watch.

That was what it made me think of too. I think...I think I'm on board. No one is more surprised than I am.swsa wrote:I can't tell if that's absolutely horrible or if it may hit that same sweet spot that Beetlejuice did.

Re: Film Trailers
That looks insane. I'm sure anyone who cares knows exactly what Prometheus is by now, but I still find it curious that they are minimizing the connection to Alien. Not everyone who's seen the original film is going to recognize the horseshoe shaped spaceship or the so-called "space jockey".

Re: Film Trailers
There was a live video Q&A on that page that they ran twice before just leaving the trailer by itself--it's weird, it's like they're kind of trying to have it both ways. I wonder if they're trying to keep this balance so that it can be part of the Alien story if you want, but it isn't if you don't. Damon Lindelof specifically mentioned the Nostromo, and they talked about how this movie has shinier tech while Alien has a "grittier" look (Ridley Scott was all like, I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE DOING GRUNGE ANYMORE OKAY), without actually explaining how that happened in-story. And a guy stood up and asked if the audience would see a "full evolution" to the Alien creatures, and Ridley Scott said, quote, "It's called, 'go see the movie.'" I mean, he was nice about it, but the guy obviously hit on a question that was a fairly big spoiler.
(Another guy asked a Very Deep Question about whether the evolution angle would involve a religious aspect--there's a lot of discussion about that online--and Lindelof said it was the most thoughtful question he'd been asked. The most interesting part of his answer was, if I'm remembering it correctly, "Is there a point where you discover something that makes you stop believing in God?")
There was a huge long synopsis that I read (it might have even been on io9), and Fox then declared it fake (of course they did). But I see a number of things in the trailer that would fit. And if that's the real synopsis? Yeah, it's insane.

Re: Film Trailers
So basically what I picked up from the trailer regarding the plot was this:
- Spoiler:
- These scientists discover a map/evidence of other civilizations that all include the same hieroglyphics/symbols that imply that they are somehow connected or help explain the origins of the beginning of life? So they use this map to track this information down to its source and instead of finding the origins of life, they find a sentient alien lifeform/civilization that actually lies in wait to be 'discovered' so that it can then be taken back to the planet of the people that have found it, so that they can then be destroyed? And these scientists are now trying to prevent this from happening to their own planet?

Re: Film Trailers
Well, if you want a maybe real/maybe not spoiler,
- Spoiler:
- there's also a space/time wormhole.

Re: Film Trailers
Avengers what? Hell, at this point, I'd even be willing to argue that if I had to pick only one movie this summer to see, it would be this one, even over Batman.
Holy balls that looks so good. And I'm jealous of people from "foreign parts" who always seem to get better trailers, even if it's just a change of music or the addition of a few scenes.

Re: Film Trailers
The Dark Knight is one of my most favorite recent movies, but if Batman were standing between me and this movie, I would rip my own arm off and beat him in the face with it. I don't even think my expectations are too high--not that this movie will obviously exceed them, just--any movie with all of THAT in it is worth my money even if it's terrible.

That trailer makes me think of Mass Effect and H.P. Lovecraft, in the very best way. I want to go to there.

Re: Film Trailers
The Prometheus trailer is amazeballs, and I am assuming Fassbender
- Spoiler:
- is an android? He seems very Ash-Bishop-y.
Re: Film Trailers
Yup. They're making a point of that in the viral marketing, even. Guy Pearce is very proud of it.
... while these are all legitimately trailers, we should probably take this to the Alien thread proper, wherever it is.
Well, it won't be hard to catch up, because there are only two. WHAT I CAN'T HEAR YOU, I SAID THERE ARE ONLY TWO.inversed wrote:I've never even seen the Alien movies (I know, I know) and I want to see this!!

The official trailer that is 2:48 minutes long
the background sound starts from 1:07 (it has a piano beat to it with a modern sense kind of)
someone said it sounds like Clint Mansell's theme from the movie "Moon" Song title: Welcome to Lunar Industries (sounds like only the beginning kind of but its not it)
can anyone help? this music bit is inside my head all day

Re: Film Trailers
Yes, that's what it is. An odd choice that I found kind of jarring, actually. I didn't think the creepiness went with the trailer at all. Re: Film Trailers
I swear to god, I spent half this trailer assuming it was a parody from Jimmy Kimmel's show or something.
Then I felt shame as I laughed at the rapid fire list of white trash girls' names.

Re: Film Trailers
Yeah, I laughed too, but I thought it was because of my fault of finding anything funny when delivered with a Boston accent. The movie is still going to be terrible, but the Thunder Song made me giggle too.
Re: Film Trailers
I laughed at almost everything in the trailer, I'm not above laughing my ass off at teddy bear getting high and cussing for 90 minutes. Although I will wonder if Ted just admits It (heh) that he's actually Peter Griffin stuck in a stuffed animal.
