Oscars 2012

Post  queenofdenile on Fri Oct 21, 2011 11:36 pm

I don't think we had this topic open yet even at the old thread, did we? It's almost November and the baity movies are finally coming out!

Anyway, I'm going to make an obvious prediction that Elizabeth Olsen will get recognition for Martha Marcy May Marlene, and I hope Melissa McCarthy can get a supporting nod for Bridesmaids.

I wasn't big on the choice of Eddie to begin with, but my main concern was Ratner as a producer. Now that they're both out, I'm actually a bit excited about the whole thing again.

Yeah, I'm kind of delighted that they're both gone. Here's hoping that they pick someone good for at least the hosting slot.

NPH, because he should just host everything.

If I say "Stephen Colbert" in the mirror three times, will that make him host the Oscars?

They will never let him, but I'd love to see Chris Rock do it again.

I am actually a bit sad about Murphy? I think he wastes his talent but he has a lot of it. I was curious to see him in a situation like that which is probably as close to stand up as hes been in twenty years.

Co-signed.

Also glad Ratner and Murphy are gone. This was going to be the first year in forever that I wasn't going to watch the Oscars. Now I can.

Ooooh, how about Colbert, with Jon Stewart and Steve Carrell?

Even Stev/phen, anyone? Montages, for or against?

I don't think Eddie was ever really planning on hosting the awards. On every talk show he's been on recently to promote Tower Heist, he seemed to have this look in his eyes like "wow, I can't believe they think I'm going to go through with this." whenever he was asked about hosting. I think he agreed just to help out the movie and then would have dropped out anyway. Ratner being his usual charming self just made it easier.

How about NPH and Hugh Jackman? And muppets.

I was curious what Murphy would even BE like as Oscar host, since he hasn't been anything but Donkey and a career-joke in my pop-culture consuming life time.

Given that bizarre choice, I have NO idea who to expect as a replacement.

Well he has had flashes of that former genius with stuff like Bowfinger and Dreamgirls. I keep hoping with him and I have no idea why. He makes so much crap. But I was like maybe this will be like Raw!

Every time I try to talk about Grazer, I get this sense that I'm damning him with faint praise because the best I can usually say about him is that he's good at his job. I can't think of any movie or TV show he's been involved with (other than Arrested Development which was more Ron Howard than Grazer) that really knocked my socks off. Which is why I really hate the idea that he's the one in charge of The Dark Tower.

But producing the Oscars? He should be able to knock that out in his sleep and still do a better job than Ratner would have.

To steal from Ben Schwartz tweet, Entertainment 720 is the only logical choice to produce the Oscars.
