Red State

Has anyone else seen this yet? It's streaming on Netflix right now. I can't decide what to made of the ending. It's one of those movies where I'm not sure if I like it or not, but I haven't stopped thinking about it. Michael Parks is amazing.

My husband's best friend is a bit of a Kevin Smith freak, so he's been nagging me to see this for months (since it was released in special showings across the country along with a way overpriced Q&A...) and finally I gave in. But only because he agreed to watch Prom. Anyway! I did think it was well-written and all, but I was almost bored by it. It just seemed too obvious, almost. I do disagree with categorizing it as a horror movie, though. I'd say it is a psychological thriller, as a subset of the thriller genre, but not a horror movie as Kevin Smith describes it.

Certainly a break from his usual stuff, with more drama and nearly no dick jokes. I quite enjoyed most of the film, but the type of story that he was trying to tell could have benefited from a bit more realism regarding the actual outside standoff.
