Re: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
I was about to start a thread now that the trailer for The Hobbit is out, and I see we have one, yay! The trailer looks amazing: Martin Freeman is so perfect I can't even form coherent thoughts about it at the moment. The end, with "What's a Bagginses, precious?" give me chills. Why is it a whole year away? It just makes me so happy to see LOTR on the screen again. I feel ten years younger just watching the trailer. (Hard to believe it's been ten years since FOTR. I was in university! Holy cow).

Re: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
The excitement is slowly growing. I only read The Hobbit once or twice and didn't spend nearly as much time thinking about it as I thought about Lord of the Rings, but I loooved Bilbo and thought he was awesome, and was actually annoyed when I began LotR and realized that he wasn't the main character anymore. Martin Freeman looks perfect.

I actually did a little Snoopy dance the first time I watched the trailer this morning. It looks so fantastic!

Re: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
Oh my god I just spent half an hour flailing!
I've read The Hobbit only once, because I was so in love with Lord of the Rings, and didn't really care too much about it. So, I was not really invested in the movie - and then this trailer comes out and I'm on the edge of my seat desperately wanting to speed up time.
THE SONG! God, I'm still shivering form it. And Gollum's voice and the music at the end - I feel like I'm fifteen again.

Yes! I just got back from taking my mom to lunch for her birthday, and remembering that exactly 10 years ago today I blew off her birthday to go see Fellowship with my friends and my mind was blown. (I had never read the books before and had no idea what the story was about.)
Sorry, mom.

The song is where I started getting weepy. And I did a little butt-dance in my chair when the trailer ended.THE SONG! God, I'm still shivering form it.
So very excited.

I may be squeeing everywhere possible today. I may have forced my coworkers to watch the trailer too.
All I want to do is gather up all the friends I made because of this fandom and go sit in a theater together to watch it.

I want to clutch it to my chest and never let it go. I can't believe I have to wait a whole year. It looks so good.

Re: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
Really, the only thing at all that makes me feel anxious or apprehensive about this movie at all is the prospect of actors I really like Martin Freeman or Aidan Turner being harassed by the more obsessed parts of LOTR fandom. Leave them alone, Thanfiction!

Re: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
It didn't hit me until maybe the 8th time I watched the new trailer, but now I have that same wonderful and familiar gut punch of anticipation I used to get from new LotR trailers 10 years ago.
It's that Dwarf song. I grabbed an mp3 of it and also hum it all day. It's wonderful.

Re: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
This is somewhat tangential to the actual films, but dudes--what is it about filming LOTR movies that pudges Peter Jackson out? He got super skinny during the production of Kong & Bones, and now he's ballooning out again. I think Tolkien stresses him out.

Method directing. He's reverting to his hobbit state.

Re: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
Here in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse, they ran the Hobbit trailer in front of Tin Tin (as I expect they did most places). But immediately after the trailer, they put up cards on the screen saying
THAT WAS AWESOME
LET'S WATCH IT AGAIN!
And they showed it, in its entirety, once more.
As a recent convert to the BBC's Sherlock, I cannot, cannot wait for Bilbo and Smaug. W00t!

Hee! Love that!
Hey, Martin Freeman has a "FUCKING BAFTA"! All his trailers should run twice.

I had to quote this to friends on FB - I hope that's okay!

Man, if I ever make it out to Austin, going to the Drafthouse is totally on my list.

Snarkfest Meetup at the Drafthouse!
Now that I think of it, doing that for a showing of The Hobbit ain't a half* bad idea.

Oh, and quoting me is fine!

What's the statute of limitations on double-posting?
Keep Calm.
</silly> Also, there have now been five production videos released, but I'm sort of finding myself just wanting to wait until it comes out, and get all the production insight after seeing the finished product.

Re: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
Some are expressing concerns that The Hobbit will look "like a made for television BBC movie" based on how it's being shot in 48fps. Link

Well, he had six films worth of content from LOTR, so I guess it will be ok.
