Stars I Hate

Because Comedy Central won't stop pimping that Carlos Mencia special. I see he's still as unfunny as ever - it's pretty telling that the only joke they show in the promo is the one about Obama looking like Curious George. (Which, REALLY? I can't even!) Did Comedy Central owe him a special from way back or something?

The NY Times had an article about his new special in which he claimed he's a new man. I remain unconvinced.

Oh my god, my older sister inexplicably loves him and finds him hilarious. She sent an email to the whole family one year with the lyrics to a Christmas song parody about suicide bombers, complete with the word "towel-head." She got an all-caps reply to that one.

I'm going to throw in Ashton Kutcher, who clearly has some sort of deal with the devil for fame considering how talent-, charm-, and intelligence-free he is.

Don't ask me to choose between hating Dunham or Mencia more. It's a mirror universe Sophie's Choice. Mencia for the joke-stealing more than the racial content (He may not quite have understood the line between racist and racial humor, but at least he tried), but Dunham for a combination of outright racist humor and a simple lack of funny.

Yeah, Jeff Dunham is terrible. The other day, Comedy Central showed the Original Kings of Comedy, and then followed up with Jeff Dunham. It was about as far an extreme as you could get, both content-wise and hilarity. I joked to my husband that they were trying to appease the white folks who were annoyed about being picked on for two hours.

And I will join in the Ashton Kutcher (or Koo-cher as my husband insists on calling him) hate. Those Nikon (Canon?) commercials where he's creeping on girls are extra gross considering his extramarital activities.

My hairdresser and I were just discussing this very thing today. How can whichever camera company it is think that these commercials are doing them any favors right now?

Seeing as he has a SAG award now (gag) and has been shoved to the front of my consciousness, I have to take a moment to rant about how vile and disgusting I find Jonah Hill, and how Forgetting Sarah Marshall is the only exception to this rule.

For all I know he could be a perfectly nice person in real life, but now that I've seen a glimpse of what a Jonah Hill-written script looks like in Allen Gregory, I'm doubting it.

I really, really can't stand him for some reason. He seems to be more the funny friend of a bunch of talented comedians, and not so much a talented comedian in his own right.

I don't get the appeal of Jonah Hill AT ALL. He's utterly charmless to me.

To be fair, Jonah Hill has not yet won a SAG award, but he is still a nominee, which I find INCREDIBLY baffling. Must be the overflowing love for Moneyball that is benefiting him. I liked how the role was a subtle departure from his usual shtick, but his performance is not award-worthy. Plus, I also find him loathsome and disgusting. I really don't see the point of him when we have a more charming, fun version of the same person in Seth Rogen.

I have never found him funny, I don't understand his appeal at all.

I hated Jonah Hill for a long time, but while I still don't love him I enjoyed his performances in Get Him To The Greek and Moneyball and I thought 21 Jump Street looked fun, so I've backed down to neutral.

I still would rather Seth Rogen got all his parts though.

With this interview, Rooney Mara. I like her as an actress actually, and I am sure she will be great in TGWTDG, but my GOD shes insufferable. Shes just very, very try hard and I AM EDGY, damn it, and just...really pissing on past projects, which seems unwise considering she is still a fairly unknown actor.

First of all you don't think people get bullied for being fat? Second of all SVU is a hot mess 90% of the time but its a good first job to have. Actors die to get on there. And if its good enough for Jeremy Irons and Ellen Burstyn, girl, its good enough for you.

Arrrgh Jonah Hill! I can't stand him either and he needs to get off my TV screen. On the plus side, he's taking over the spot previously filled by Michael Cera, who probably deserves it less.

My hatred has abated of late, because I do think he's actually not a bad actor when given something not in his grotesque schtick area (Cyrus, Moneyball, Forgetting Sarah Marshall), but since he's still working that grotesque schtick for all it's worth in The Sitter there is still a tremendous of amount of ick still there.

The episode wasn't the greatest, BUT Rooney Mara was easily the worst part of it. She just had this whiny, tearful affect that made me want to grind my teeth. I wonder how much of that was acting.

Someone on ONTD called her Gwyneth 2.0 but I think that's being unfair to Gwyneth -- Gwyneth might be out of touch but I think she has more of a sense of humor about herself than Rooney has shown so far.

Heh, when Michael Cera was allegedly the lone holdout on the Arrested Development movie, my husband wanted them to teach him a lesson by replacing him with Jonah Hill.
I fall squarely in the "meh" category with him. I do like him a lot in Cyrus and he's fine in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but The Sitter looks dreadful.

That's the second time in two interviews I've heard Mara bring up how young she looks. I don't think she looks particularly young--she looks her age to me--but she somehow seems to think she's this baby faced child woman.

I prefer her sister so much more than Rooney. She's a thousand times prettier with gorgeous hair and a thousand times less pretentious.

Uh...what the fuck does THAT mean? I assume, this being SVU, that the (fictional) girl on the show was LITERALLY sodomized. Is Rooney saying that she's been a victim of sexual assault? Or that she enjoys anal sex? Or is she saying that she's been "screwed" metaphorically in her career? Which is not really OK to equate to a LITERAL sexual assault, fictional or no. Or is she saying that she's had a lot of roles where the character has been sodomized? WTF does this mean? I can't figure out any possible meaning that doesn't mean she's either trivializing rape or being totally inappropriate/irrelevant.

I find Jonah Hill pretty repulsive-looking, and this is coming from someone who is very fond of Seth Rogen AND Michael Cera and is actively glad to see them in things. I do not understand the purpose of Jonah Hill at all.

Although tbh, I'm not that fond of Seth Rogen anymore, either. Jonah Hill starred in Superbad as an utterly loathsome character who basically spends the whole movie trying to date-rape Emma Stone (and this is portrayed as him just being lonely and insecure and not, you know, date-rapey), but then I remember that Seth Rogen was the person who wrote that loathsome character. I only still like Rogen more because of residual Freaks and Geeks love and every interview with him just makes me think he's almost as gross.

OHHHHH, I get it now -- I knew that, but I didn't connect it. I didn't realize "since the beginning of my career" was referring to the SVU episode; I thought she was talking about some previous time and the SVU ep was the "full circle" part. All right, she's still kinda annoying but I will mark this support ticket closed.
