I So Just Got That
I thought we had this thread already, but I can't find it. Soooo...
I just realized that James VI of Scotland, who became James I of England on Queen Elizabeth's death, essentially at her invitation, was Mary Queen of Scot's son. Which means Elizabeth killed his mom.
So James was in the position of flattering his mom's murderer (on Elizabeth's advisor Robert Cecil's advice) for the keys to the kingdom. I bet he had to rewrite THAT letter a few times!

(Of course he didn't really write them himself, sigh.)
