I can't decide whether that was incredibly ballsy or incredibly stupid. The thing is, those Redemption Island challenges are never a guaranteed win for a physically adept player. If it was a swimming challenge, or a Being Ozzy challenge, sure, but it's always something that can take place in a small amount of arena space: a puzzle, a stacking shit up challenge, etc.

Even Cochran can't believe he's still in. Ha.

I had to add the subtitle to make this topic title long enough to get the board to post it. If we're still here next season we'll need to change it...

I was convinced it was a producer-led thing. I never thought he'd go through with it! It just seems to me like the dumbest thing to do. Unless he's trying to prevent Cochran from defecting to the other team after the merge? Because it's clear Christine's team doesn't like her and would not want her back after merge.

And what was with Coach trying to turn Survivor into a religious quest? I watched last season and the first season, so overall II don't know much about returning players, so is this how he played before and why he isn't as creeped out by Brandon as pretty much everyone else on their team?

Because Coach likes to see things the way he wants to believe them to be. I think they need to 86 Brandon SOON. He is a loose cannon: he just SAYS THINGS and sometimes they're not even TRUE, so it's not like you can simply selectively tell him information. I do think that Albert and Sophie are aware of this though, and are going to manage to get rid of him before too long. I also definitely don't remember Coach being so religious -- thank God I'm not on that tribe. No pun intended. Like, in general, I try to be as respectful of other people's religious beliefs as possible, but it would have been hard for me to be all, "Coach, GOD DOESN'T CARE IF WE WIN IMMUNITY. God is probably just concerned that none of us murder each other while we're here." But you can't really say that.

As far as Ozzy sending himself to redemption, I think it'll either prove to be TOTAL GENIUS or completely idiotic, but there are a LOT of unpredictable variables that have to work correctly in order for it to be genius. I really appreciate it from the standpoint of it being a bold and interesting move, and I think he seems okay with the possibility of it not working out, but it could be a disaster. And Christine has been kind of a monster at challenges, which Ozzy knows, since he's seen her play most of them. He better hope it's a tree-climbing challenge and not a puzzle.

Can you imagine how difficult it must be to deal with him in real life? He's just so erratic and irrational and insistent. Every time I watch the show I thank god he's not my neighbor or something.

The "God wants us to win!" strategy was genius for pretending to find the idol super fast. If using the "miracle" to boost Brandon's confidence for a win (and maybe try to convince Brandon that God clearly doesn't want him to flip to the other team) was where it ended, I'd be fiendishly delighted. But Coach grabbing someone's arm to force them to kneel and pray for thanks after the challenge? That is creepy.

I sort of feel like Ozzie was aware that he's seen as a challenge guy with no strategy, so if he can make it back for the merge and comp win his way to F3, this is what he can't point to to show that he was more than just a human/dolphin hybrid this time around.

I'm sure he was pushed into making a "big move" by production. It's win-win for them no matter what happens.

Ha, I can't believe that worked. Well, sort of worked, in that Ozzy didn't go home like a sucker, but then got screwed by Cochran anyway.

I guess there is an outside chance Cochran will be able to work some sub-alliances and not just end up the seventh person on a six-person alliance (or not, say, get voted out immediately next week), but can't say it looks good for him, honestly.

It was kind of funny how they were editing the whole episode to make Ozzy's team the underdogs even though both tribes had six people.

I see his decision in the same light as Jonathan Penner's decision in his original season. He had the chance to turn to tide towards a team he liked better, and took it. Except with Cochran, I think he has a better chance than Penner did at infiltrating the other tribe. They were extremely unified this episode, but we know that there are definite rifts in the alliance. Plus, Cochran has a solid, albeit emotionally unstable, ally in Dawn. I know from Cirie's original season that a dysfunctional tribe can still pull off a successful pagonging, but I think it was a good move for Cochran.

Coach's religiousness didn't seem to really come out until last week. There were no team prayers or praying before and after challenges until Albert and Sophie told Coach they thought Brandon was nuts and Coach promised them that he could keep Brandon under control. I think all the praying is bull. Coach doesn't buy it anymore than anyone else does. But it seems that Coach's strategy for keeping Brandon calm as long as he possibly can is to surround Brandon with people Brandon can view as just as into religion as Brandon himself is. It's all crap, but Brandon doesn't have to know that. If he ever figures it out, though, he's going to freak.

I'm glad Cochran switched last night. I don't like him at all; he's weaselly and off-putting and seems so unpleasant to be around. But his tribe was asking for it. They didn't manage their relationship with him properly at all. And anything that helps Albert and Sophie is okay by me.

Those double elimination episodes are so unsuspenseful; once you notice it's a compressed episode you figure they're getting a couple of boring votes out of the way. But, it gets two predictable boots out of the way in one week instead of two, so overall I support this. It won't be nearly as dull as Rob's incredibly boring march to victory last season, anyway.

Spitting coconut water into a tube looks really wrong, y'all.

I still hate Brandon even if the spotlight has been somewhat away from him lately and I want him to go away as soon as possible.

The red team was such a bunch of whiny babies last night. They were mean to Cochran so he switched alliances in a totally fair and legal move. Now they're sore losers and making it all personal, like he's a bad person for beating them at the game show they all signed up to play. It was ridic. I rolled my eyes when Whitney whined, "He's wasted six weeks of my life!" Does that mean she considers herself a bad person too, for wasting weeks of Semhar and Papa Bear's lives by voting them out? Nobody's buying it.

As soon as I saw the challenge was going to involve spitting, I fast forwarded. Those ick me out.

Dude, there was no suspense to that duel if they were going to fill the commercial entirely with shots and talking heads from Ozzy that did not appear in the episode prior to the duel. Nice one, guys.

So. THAT was kinda creepy. I really felt bad for almost everyone last night, especially Brandon and Albert. I really think Albert is just playing the game as hard as he can, using whatever tools he has available, including taking advantage of someone else's religious faith. He's hardly the first person to do this, but I wonder if he really appreciated what he was getting into with Brandon. He was just doing everything he could to not go home, and it worked. But during tribal council, it looked like he was realizing that maybe he'd crossed a line. I know some people think it fell off, but to me, it looked like he took the immunity necklace off as soon as Brandon walked off, almost as if he was ashamed to be wearing it. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. But that was an ugly tribal council.

Coach really came away from that looking bad, but I'm not sure I'd blame him (much) for the whole situation. How do you interact with someone like Brandon in this situation? He really shouldn't have been cast. But with the dynamic he's added to this season, they'll probably cast more and more people like him in the future. I really love this show, and loved last night's episode, but it made me wonder if there'd ever be a point where I just didn't feel right about watching this kind of stuff for entertainment.

My sister said last night reminded her of that final immunity challenge with Tom and Ian in Palau, where Tom emotionally manipulates Ian into quitting. I didn't like what Tom did, but that situation didn't bother me as much.

I think it fell off. I actually laughed when it happened, because all through the episode the soundtrack played a little bell every time Brandon prayed or pointed to the sky or anything, and then the snarky editors played the God bell again when the necklace fell off of Albert's neck.

I've been turning over in my mind which way Brandon is going to go. Will he blame Albert or Coach for his ouster? Rick planted the seeds for Brandon to blame Albert when he said that Albert should give the necklace back. Brandon looked like he hoped Albert would, but Albert didn't. But then Albert put the blame on Coach when he said that, if Coach stuck by his word, then Brandon would be safe so there was no need to give the necklace back. Coach didn't stick by his word and Brandon was gone.

I think last night was a case where Albert won the battle but lost the war. Coach may be in the same boat. He came off very badly in front of the jury last night. True, Brandon is an off-putting little weirdo, but Albert said flat-out that if Coach stuck by his loyalties and promises then he wouldn't vote for Brandon, and five minutes later Coach stabbed Brandon in the back in front of everyone. I don't know whether the jury will be impressed by that.

Team Sophie! She played it so well last night. Her social game is awesome. She sensed that Albert was gunning for her and stirred up that Rick-Brandon-Albert fight, which wound up making Albert look really bad in front of everyone while she came out smelling like a rose. I like her a lot.

I *loved* that moment where Coach was musing about needing to off the little weasel, and the little weasel wandered up behind him 2 seconds later.

I hope Ozzy offs him in the final Redemption challenge, otherwise the next TC could be just like this one over again, depending on who wins immunity, of course.

That was SO GREAT. He just comes sidling up with some coconut. The editing last night was great -- they had the best reaction shots from the jury at tribal, too.

I feel like, if Brandon ends up in the jury, no matter WHO you are, you don't count on his boat. HE SO CRAZY, there's no telling who the hell he'll vote for.

I like Sophie, and I actually like Albert too -- THANK GOD someone has some strategy. Rick is a nonentity. I actually love Coach, but I don't know if he can convince that jury to vote for him. On the other hand, you'd think people would have been smart enough to get rid of him a long time ago, so....

I just don't want Ozzy to win. Dear God, please don't let Ozzy win. Because apparently You have a vested interest in this. (Seriously, has there ever been a more religious season? I would be going along with it too if I were there, but it is sort of strange.)

I can tell you who Brandon will vote for if he ends up on the jury: whomever GOD tells him to when he's got that pen in his hand. That dude is off the rails crazy. Never seen anything like it.

I'm pulling for Sophie, though I think her chances are slim. She's played a quiet, yet fierce, game. I also like her confessionals--she's hilarious.

I really felt sorry for Brandon at the reunion show. This is a strange and difficult time for me.

I give Ozzy credit for a pretty good run there, and a good showing at the balancing house-of-cards challenge.

I suspect that people who think Sophie is uppity are saying this because she doesn't act like the usual brainless barely-twenty girls they put on this show, though I could have done without her referring to Coach as a little girl.

I was wondering too where all that came from about Sophie being condescending and snobby. We hadn't seen that in the editing at all. I agree that it's probably that it wasn't her style to flirt and sunbathe in her bikini all day and leave the strategy to the men. She was an equal partner and usually the leader in that alliance every step of the way.

There was a moment last night when Coach said that Rick tells tons of awesome stories that everyone loves to listen to and I was like, really? In that case, it would've been nice to hear some of them.

I know, seriously! A Survivor crewperson did a Q&A over on reddit and said that when someone is a total nonentity on the show, it's probably because they mumble all their words, which makes their footage difficult to use. Ever since then I've noticed that Rick was pretty heavily subtitled. But how did he make it on the show if he was that bad on camera?

I like Sophie fine, but there are definitely times when people are talking when she makes a very very condescending face -- she did it on the reunion when Cochran was talking about how much she hated him, and I was like, "girl, you just won a million bucks. You don't need to be sneering at the kid." Of course, she may not FEEL sneer-y, maybe her face just looks like that sometimes, but I could see where her expressions sometimes seemed sort of disdainful. Her entire body language at the reunion was weird. Maybe she was in shock.

As far as Ozzy goes, I was REALLY irritated with him right up until he got eliminated, and he took it with SUCH good sportsmanship that I was all, "OH OZZY I LOVE YOU AGAIN." But please dear God, let this be the final season that they do Redemption Island. I just think it screws up the dramatic pacing of the season.

So, new season! Any thoughts? I laughed when the members of the waxed chest alliance on the men's tribe were crowing to each other about how totally unstoppable they are, and forgot that they're four people out of a nine-person tribe and 5>4. I guess they don't teach you how to count in law school, Matt.

So far the contestants I like are Sabrina who found the idol (though in her shoes I might not have given it to Coulton, since he was already on the women's side and it's not like she needed to win him over or anything), Christina who made the deal for palm fronds in exchange for fire help, and the girl who was so good at chicken catching...Chelsea? I don't remember her name. She seemed to have it together, though. On the men's side Jonas and Leif seem okay. Once Jonas's team wins a reward that includes knives, imagine the fish he'll be able to carve up for them. They'll feast. If I ever went on Survivor, I wouldn't mind having a sushi chef on my team.

What happened to that one lady's face? Did she land on it during the challenge or have an allergic reaction to something? It looked like it hurt.

I found myself pretty annoyed with the women's team as a whole. Why did they keep whining to the men for help? Why couldn't they have just done whatever it is they would've done if the teams were on separate beaches? Some of them were acting like they honestly thought that, without the men's help getting fire and stuff, they were all going to die right there on national television. And that show at Tribal Council, only three days in and already fighting like they're on Springer? It was embarrassing. I wish they'd pull it together.

What is up with two different men trying to go by Tarzan? How bizarre is that? And one of them is a plastic surgeon? Would you ever go to a surgeon who had made people call him Tarzan on a reality show?

I'm so glad there's no more Redemption Island. I've missed reward challenges so much. Remember how they used to make people pick who to bring along, splitting up alliances and revealing sub-alliances and making people really mad? Like that one time that Lill brought Fairplay on the yacht and it resulted in Rupert getting blindsided? That was awesome. Let's have that back.

I'm also glad there aren't any Hantzes for once. I did laugh when Coulton said, "The only thing that's going to save me is an Idol or Jesus, and he ain't showing up." I wish someone had let Brandon know that last season.

Jeff mentioned during the challenge that one of the women face-planted - I think that was the one with the beat-up mouth at Tribal.

I'm not sure about these people yet. It seemed like whoever wasn't being a douche was whining. One of the women merits special comment, though, the one who said, "I'm from Texas where men are chivalrous!" Two things, honey. One, this is a game for $1 million, and no guy is going to help you to the prize. Two, I've lived in Texas, and, no.

Bwahaha I love the idiots they always find for this show. We watched the two in a row last night and I was worried with the first episode that it was going to be sexist crap the whole way through, but maybe that was just what people do until they figure out who people are beyond gender lines.

I'm not sure if I loved or was embarrassed that fake boobs and dumbassery were the women's downfall in the challenge. Stop making our gender look so stupid, stupids!

Coulton: Oh for fuck's sake. Stop being a whiny jackass.

I can't believe that one woman is a special ed teacher. Who the heck wants her working with their special needs child??
