Congrats to them! Hopefully this means I will have less dreams about him being way too invested in the fetus I'm carrying.
I think it's also a UK thing given that you have to register for the marriage license and all that, whereas here, I think it's like a 48 hour wait depending on the state.
I just realized that it's going to be a traditional, nice wedding. And probably adorable. But I'm all "WHERE IS THE SIXTEEN COURSE CHINESE BANQUET? WHERE ARE THE GRANDMAS EGGING YOU INTO DOING SHOTS? WHERE ARE THE OLD PEOPLE PLAYING MAHJONGG UNTIL 3 AM LIKE AT MY WEDDING?"

It's a white thing Kiran, but a ye olde White thing. Most of us refugee mutts never hear of such things- except in Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. Not high church for my family, reception at Dairly Queen, but I do have Anglican friends (and their taste in liquor is excellent), while we can only have grape juice and no music.

Re: Celebrity Weddings
Our weddings are a week long, with a ceremony/party every night, and a drunk revelary reception the night before and night after the wedding.
So anytime there isn't a giant buffet, complete with cake buffet, drunk uncles dancing, a fist fight, a couple making out in the coat room of the hotel, someone stealing the grooms shoes and demanding payment for the back, a trivia session for the hand of the bride, a sweaty two hour ceremony as you sit on the floor and struggle to see the couple, and the musical stylings of Yo Yo Honey Singh I'm like "....culture shock."
I've been a bridesmaid in a billion western weddings and its still culture shock.

Re: Celebrity Weddings
Jessa Duggar got married at the weekend and according to one guest who blogged about it so it MUST BE TRUE, she and her husband couldn't wait until that night to consummate things.
Which is completely SHOCKING that a twenty one year old woman and a nineteen year old man would be wanting to have sex as soon as they were married considering they weren't able to hold hands until they were engaged.
And whatever about no alcohol because I don't drink so I could just sit in the corner with my bottle of diet pepsi and get high on life, there was no dancing? If there's no dancing at the reception, then what's the point?

The blog they link to is a parody, but I really, really wish that story was true.

Ugh, I wasted SO MUCH time in my tweens/early teens reading that stuff. Yes I do, actually. And punky, it totally would be a great role for The Batch, I agree.laddical wrote:Cynara wrote:Like you could post them, but then say "fuck it" and go to Gretna Green or get married by special licence because you accidentally got caught in a snowstorm and had to spend the weekend in Lord Sexybreeches' hunting lodge and even though all you did was bitch at each other and sublimate by playing chess, now you're compromised and must marry him and his vast fortune and estates and slightly tragic but not too scarring past, woe.
You feel better gettin' that off your chest?

Really? That's a pity. I hadn't checked out the blog to verify it, I just saw the story and thought that'd make for an interesting episode where they explain this one. And then I posted it here. I can no longer scoff at those FB posters who repost articles that are blatantly untrue. *sighs* But I'm going to anyway!!

That's probably because McCauley isn't the Hollywood type, but rather the co-founder and CEO of Fellow Robots, a robotics company based at NASA Research Park in Silicon Valley, California.
Damn, she sounds badass!

I was so sure he was gay. I don't know why, but I was just so sure.
But congrats to them both!

Re: Celebrity Weddings
There was speculation over the past few years about him being gay, and I wouldn't have been entirely surprised if he had suddenly come out, but hey, he's got himself a wife now, and I hope nothing but the best for them!

I actually thought it was basically common knowledge that he was bisexual. Whatever the case, I've always liked him ever since Third Rock From the Sun. I wish him and his new wife well.

Stephen Fry is engaged, to someone very, very young, but, we have uncles with that age gap who've been together for 30 years, so, I hope they'll enjoy the same run of good health and good luck.

I hope for him it works out, but whenever I see a couple that looks like parent & child, I always feel a little weird. I have a friend whose husband looks like her dad/is her dad's age, and it was a little disconcerting for the longest time (but they're very happy, which is certainly what is most important).

Re: Celebrity Weddings
I hope they are happy. Genuinely so. I think of how deeply unhappy Fry has been over the years, and his struggle with mental illness, so I hope that this will bring him more joy. Plus hey, who doesn't like a wedding.

The last time Johnny Depp was married, Amber Heard hadn't even been born yet. Let that sink in.

That's one hell of a midlife crisis.
