The bin of $2.99/$3.99 underwear at the Gap is my go-to.

Ugh. And also, how hard is it to put your phone on the backseat so you can't get to it?

Wow!
(On the homepage the translation is right underneath it). Nothing to say to that!
I hadn't checked the site in ages! Are there archives anywhere?

Re: PostSecret
Some secrets are sad, but I rarely get weirded out. This one was really disturbing. (I kind of hope it's a fake secret someone sent in to start a debate or watch people freak out or something.)

Yeah, right? What a monster. If he murdered an innocent animal because he was angry with his girlfriend, imagine how dangerous he would be around a baby.

The first postcard in tonight's update is the first Holy Shit submission I've seen in a while. I can't link directly, but it's the first one, with the map.

Re: PostSecret
If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, someone has posted a map that seems to line up with it -- a driving range in Chicago. Holy shit.

New update from the site:
Here is an update on the first secret this week:
30 minutes after the top secret was posted, Reddit had identified the exact location on the postcard. Reddit moderators then self-censored their site to ensure that the information would not wrongly implicate someone in a crime. The Chicago Police were notified multiple times and investigated. They searched the site and found nothing unusual. This was reported Monday morning in The Chicago Tribune.

Interesting. I find myself wondering if Frank has any obligations morally or legally when he gets things like this. Legally I doubt it, but morally, I like to think he would have contacted the appropriate authorities. Then again, after watching the PostSecret Ap descend into trainwreck that it did I'm wondering how many obscene postcards he gets.

Re: PostSecret
Some of the postcards he actually publishes on the site are not obscene per se, but definitely NSFW.
The grammar/spelling harridan in me kind of wishes Frank would insist on a "use proper spelling and grammar or else I won't publish you" rule, but I know that wouldn't be fair.

Re: PostSecret
In this particular case, I think posting the card was the most effective way to determine which authorities to notify. It took less than half an hour for the redditors to find the right site; I'm thinking the FBI or whoever he would have turned that over to would've taken considerably longer.snorf wrote:Interesting. Also, I'm not really buying that the Chicago police did anything more than drive by and look for freshly turned dirt. That investigation was over way too fast for me to think it was thorough.

Re: PostSecret
To be fair, it's not like Chicago's cops don't have plenty of other things to deal with.
Edit: Reading the actual Trib article, it sounds like yes, they did do more than just drive by (Jackson Park's way too big, for starters, and the places where you could conceivably get away with dumping a body and not be noticed aren't right by the road).

Agreed, it's kind of hard to justify devoting much time and manpower to an anonymous tip.

Re: PostSecret
I'm always annoyed by passive aggressive secrets like this one. "I couldn't be bothered to stop my own wedding-- I expected you to do it for me."
Re: PostSecret
Could be, or could just be someone in a really horrible situation.
Anonymous Wedding Person baffles me. I'm wondering if s/he often wanders into legally binding contracts while secretly hoping someone will burst in and declare that a mortgage somewhere else would be better, or something of the kind.

That happens all the time. People who work at abortion clinics say it's fairly common to see pro-lifers who've picketed their clinics either come in themselves or bring their daughters in, and then you see them right back on the picket lines the next time around.

Re: PostSecret
Agreed. I always think that if someone decided to have an abortion because she felt the circumstances warranted it, guess what, she's pro-choice whether she thinks so or not. She was glad the choice was out there. I've never met any woman who's pro-abortion, and even if an abortion would not always be my personal choice (though it might sometimes be), I would never want to deny anyone a chance to make that decision for herself, which is all being pro-choice means.
