Harry and William are going to be in Memphis, Tennessee this weekend for a friend's wedding and I fully expect 90% of the female population under 35 will be lined up to see them. Especially Harry. I almost feel sorry for him.

Let's be honest, it wasn't like he was ever going to marry a woman who wore scrunchies and did graduate studies in dance.
Not that there is anything wrong with those sorts of things, but still...

Princess Charlene of Monaco is pregnant!

I still side-eye that marriage, she seems so unhappy so much of the time.

From that article: "Monaco, a tiny fiefdom smaller than New York's Central Park." Wow, I had never realized that. Is it literally a few casinos and a palace?

And a cathedral. And a bunch of gift shops. I visited a few years back and it is amazing. It was the only place I've ever been where I kept waiting for someone to come up to me and ask me to leave because I clearly wasn't rich enough. Everywhere you looked there were municipal employees cleaning, watering, emptying garbage cans. The entire place was spotless. Our guide said they have no street parking, everything is underground, which really opens the streets up. Every car on the street was a luxury vehicle, the yachts in the harbour were amazing, the whole place didn't seem real.

Their marriage was such a contrast with Wills and Kate's only a short while after. Theirs was so stilted and awkward, compared with the other which managed to be genuine and loving despite much more formality and pomp and circumstance.

And the Circuit du Monaco, where the F1 race happens. And a funky twisty scary track it is, too.

Yeah Monaco is lovely. Tiny, but lovely. We went to the Grand Prix in 2008 and wandered around all day. I really want to go back one day when the Grand Prix isn't on and see it properly. It's so pretty.

I was watching BBC World News this morning, and they had a long item about Juan Carlos's abdication. They had some video of him, and he looks pretty old and frail.

What in the world is Sophie wearing??? Are feather collars in style? I know the fluffy plumes on the hats are funny, but Sophie went a little bonkers. Kate looks lovely, as per the usual, although I'm not in love with the satiny fabric. But the color is nice.

Little Diamond Marshall, who was suffering a form of aggressive cancer and got to hug the Duchess of Cambridge in Calgary in 2011 as her last wish to "hug a princess," has died. She was eight years old. Poor little thing.

Charlene of Monaco gave birth to twins yesterday. The elder, a girl, is named Gabriella Therese Marie, and the younger, a boy, is Jacques Honore Rainier. Because of the male-first inheritance laws of Monaco, le petit Jacques is the heir. All said to be doing well.

Post  Arabella Fri Apr 24, 2015 10:23 pm

No baby yet...at least, not William and Kate's baby. But there is royal baby news...of Charles and Diana's secret child. What secret child, you say? Let The Globe tell you the truth:

Prepare to suspend your disbelief for a moment. For it is alleged that Prince William was not his mother’s first child: that he has a ‘secret sister’, now 33, called Sarah and living incognito in a small New England town in the United States.

How, you may well wonder, can this possibly be true when William was born in June 1982, only 11 months after his parents’ marriage?

The answer, according to this unbelievable claim, is that in December 1980, Lady Diana Spencer, then a 19-year-old virgin, was ordered by the Queen to undergo gynaecological tests to establish that she was capable of bearing children before her engagement to the heir to the throne could be announced.

During these tests, so the story goes, Diana’s eggs were harvested and fertilised with Prince Charles’s sperm. The tests proved successful, and the engagement of Charles and Diana was duly announced. Charles, asked if they were in love, responded with his famously cynical observation, ‘Whatever in love means’ — and the embryos were ordered to be destroyed.

But one of the team who examined Diana, a ‘rogue doctor’, secretly held one of the embryos back and implanted it in his own wife. Unknown to her, she became the surrogate mother of the biological child of Charles and Diana.

The baby, a girl, was born in October 1981, ten weeks after Charles and Diana’s fairy-tale wedding on July 29 of that year, and eight months before William’s own birth on June 21, 1982, in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, where fans are already camping out to catch the first glimpse of Kate and William emerging with their new baby.

It's become a whole multi-week saga for The Globe, with the girl's parents both dying in a car accident, discovering the truth in a secret diary, anonymous threats to stop her from seeking the real story, a secret meeting with Kate when she visited the US last year, and a showdown with Charles in Britain. I'm sure you'll be shocked to know that this story started out as real-person fanfic a self-published novel a few years back.

The only thing missing is the tall, dark, and handsome MI-5 agent who may or may not be Sarah's ally as she fights for her rightful place in the royal family.

Welcome to the world, baby girl! I'm hoping for Alice or Charlotte as a name. Charlotte because it honors both Wills's father Charles and Kate's mother Carole. Alice because I like it and it has history in the British royal family.

I hope they do not name the baby Diana. She's doesn't need the shadow of her grandmother hovering over her.

I think Diana is a very unlikely choice for a first name, but extremely likely to be one of her three or four middle names-- probably along with Elizabeth. I have no idea how the oddsmakers came up with "Alice" and "Charlotte" as top first-name choices but I approve. I'm expecting something old-fashioned and charming. (Who am I kidding-- of course I'll find whatever they pick charming!)
