I'm so happy it's a girl, I can't even tell you. I heard that back at the palace, the new princess got a 42 gun salute (twice as many because she'll be the future Queen).

Välkommen* to the world, baby girl!

*this word being about one-sixth of my Swedish language skills; my mother's side of the family, the Carlsons, would be so embarrassed

It's Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary. So I was wayyyyyy off with my previous guess. I'm also not sure how I feel about a potential Queen Estelle. Well, she has three other names to choose from, so only time will tell what she will go with.

It sounds like the name has meaning for the family, so that's nice. Also, both grandmothers are recognized.

She'll have a lot of time to decide which name to use when she becomes queen!

One of the objections to Estelle is that it isn't traditionally Swedish enough but I've seen some people say they thought Desiree was a possibility. I admit my knowledge of Swedish names is non-existant but Desiree?

I don't know the provenance, but one of Princess Victoria's middle names is Désirée, which is probably why it was being tossed around as a suggestion. I agree, it doesn't seem like a very Swedish name, so it's probably a family connection or something.

Edit: From Victoria's wikipedia page:

Her given names honour various relatives. Her first name comes primarily from her great-great-grandmother, Victoria of Baden, the queen-consort of Sweden as wife of King Gustaf V. The same name also glorifies her (twice-over paternally) great-great-great-grandmother, Victoria of the United Kingdom. Her other names honour her great-aunt Ingrid of Denmark; her maternal grandmother, the Brazilian Alice Sommerlath (née de Toledo); and her ancestor Désirée Clary, the queen-consort of Charles XIV John and a former fiancée of Napoleon I of France.

Edited again: Reading further down the same page, one of Victoria's godmothers is her paternal aunt, Princess Désirée. So it's obviously a family name.

They showed footage of him on his trip, and he seemed to be having the best. time. ever! He's totally the Royal I'd want to hang out with if given the opportunity.

The poses that Harry is doing with Usain Bolt are killing me with glee. It looks like he is having a great time at every stop on his trip.

Wow! He seems to know how to move his pelvis! I'm guessing he didn't learn that at Buckingham Palace dance classes.

I like our Royal family in general, with few exceptions, but Prince Harry really makes me smile. He's so much fun, and it doesn't hurt that he's also rather nice to look at.

Of course, I still intend to marry Prince Carl Philip...any day now, honest.

One thing I love about the Queen: she never wears black. Wear ALL the colours, QEII!

One thing I love about the Queen: she never wears black.
Until very recently, British royal women never wore black except for mourning clothes. (When Diana wore that black, off-the-shoulder gown for her first official appearance after her engagement, many people were as shocked by the color as by the low-cut decolletage.) I would imagine that HM follows that tradition.

I love it when the Queen wears gem tones. She wears them really well.

So. Shall the baby pool begin for Prince William and the Duchess?

Considering all the stuff they have to do this year for the Olympics and the Queen's Jubilee, I don't think they'll even start trying to get pregnant until the end of this year. But that's just me. For all I know, those two could be going at it like bunnies.
