I would watch that. I would watch the hell out of that.

Re: Upcoming Films
I believe it's possible that someone could make a great movie about two boys creating the "perfect woman" and have it be both entertaining and have something important and meaningful to say about sex and gender.
But I also believe it would be far more interesting to go with a gender-reversal remake.

I am envisioning that in my head already, and it's not half bad!RiverThames wrote:I think the world is ready for a movie where Chloe Moretz and Elle Fanning use their computer to make Chaning Tatum.

That's a great idea, but I think Channing Tatum is probably too expensive (and too busy) at this point. And since the original movie used a model turned actress for the role, it might be cool for them to go that route here. There's got to be a few of those guys kicking around Hollywood just waiting for their big break!

Natalie Portman as Lady Macbeth? Nooooooooooo. (Has nobody seen The Other Boleyn Girl? There's your taste of evil, period Natalie.)

Re: Upcoming Films
I actually thought she was the best thing in that movie. And I was not a fan of the movie, so maybe she might do better with a better director/source material/screen partner.
I don't know. I'm interested. I think Natalie Portman seems kind of like a pill irl, but I like her as an actress, paticularly the last few years. And I think she seems to have taken an interest in complicated women. And I think Lady Macbeth is definitley the queen of that. And I think shes actually a more interesting choice then someone like Eva Green, who seems to be the common suggestion I see. In part because she looks so innocent and ...nice.

Eva Green did a good evil queen IMO in that Starz Camelot remake.

Re: Upcoming Films
She did. I mean for what it is, I don't know if I'd call her performance, good imo, so much as really entertaining and befitting the material. Though I know shes genuinely talented because I've seen her in other stuff. But I think shes a boring choice because she is so obvious. Like if I was King Duncan and I saw Eva Green I'd have hightailed my ass out of there within 15 minutes. OF COURSE you cast Eva Green as Lady Macbeth. I just think there is something interesting that could be done by going so against type for this character. I mean it could very likely be awful, but I'm intrigued.
And imo, Lady Macbeth doesn't start out as an evil queen. Shes more complicated then that. Shes ambitious and she goes batshit insane and I know Natalie Portman can do that (Black Swan) which is why I'm not immediately going no to this. That and I think Michael Fassbender is an excellent actor and I loved Snowtown. Well not love. It wasn't a pleasant movie. But it was an excellent one.

Re: Upcoming Films
I think casting an innocent-seeming Lady Macbeth is fine, I just don't think Natalie is a good enough actress to pull it off. But then I haven't seen Black Swan. I'm not sure who I would cast instead. Mia Wasikowska? Too young, right? Patricia Clarkson? Too old? I didn't know people were saying Eva Green, but I could see that. Carey Mulligan is as innocent-looking as they get.

She was also the only fun thing about Tim Burton's take on Dark Shadows.

Re: Upcoming Films
There is a difference between "this person is a good actor" and "this person can do Shakespeare well." It's almost the acting equivalent of "all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares." I could very easily see Natalie Portman as a Lady Macbetheseque character, but Lady Macbeth herself? She doesn't have the right voice for it and I just don't think the language would come across well.

Re: Upcoming Films
Is Kate Winslet too busy being Mrs. Rocknroll? She's already done Shakespeare and she's about the right age, though I guess she would be kind of predictable. How about Charlize? Natalie just seems too girlish but I guess it would be a new spin on the character.

Re: Upcoming Films
Eva Green would be fabulous for the part. At least on paper. I've only ever seen her in Dark Shadows where she was a gorgeously ridiculous blend of evil and funny.
I can actually really see Natalie rocking the role though. I think she'd have to reach deep down to achieve the right note, but I have faith in her abilities. Also, I'll chime in that she was the only thing I cared about in The Other Boleyn Girl. ScarJo as the titular character just annoyed the shit out of me, but then again, I felt that way about the character in the novel so I think she played the part as well as she could. The part just sucked ass.

You never saw Casino Royale?
Totally worth it, if only for the scene of Bond licking her fingers clean in the shower and the dress she wears to the first night of the poker tournament, if Eva's your primary draw.

Re: Upcoming Films
Until I saw her in Dark Shadows, I actually could not understand her appeal AT ALL. In fact, her eyes scared me, and I thought she was kinda hideous to a degree. Now She will always have plenty of goodwill in my book even if I never see her in anything ever again. I do want to see Casino Royale though because I've heard it's awesome, in general.

Re: Upcoming Films
I dig the idea of Charlize as Lady Macbeth. I don't know what her verse-speaking abilities are like but I can see her developing those skills if she works at it.

Re: Upcoming Films
She tried her hand at portraying a calculating woman who slides into Crazytown in Snow White and the Huntsman recently though I thought she needed to dial it way the fuck back in lots of scenes. Obviously, Lady Macbeth would call for far more subtlety, but if Charlize practiced her phrasing and handling of the verses, she could have been outstanding in the role.

Oooo, I'd cosign that.
You know who else might be good? Reese Witherspoon. She can channel Tracy Flick.

I know Reese is in a mess right now, but can I express how in general, I'm happy that she seems to be focusing on doing more interesting work again? Shes too good an actress to do those rom coms forever and ever.

Re: Upcoming Films
I'd be happy with any of Charlize, Reese or Natalie, though I'd be slightly more interested in the first two, possibly because I'm not sure Natalie Portman has enough gravitas. With Reese Witherspoon, I'd be terrified she might go overboard with making Lady Macbeth sympathetic, as she did with Becky Sharp.

I think that was more Mira Nair, because Reese has played some unlikable characters in her time.

Yes, probably. Some actors (cough, cough, Russell Crowe) have a point where Hollywood ego hits and they decide to put a New Interpretation on an unlikeable character, but Reese Witherspoon is probably too canny for that. (Going completely off-topic there.)

Re: Upcoming Films
So apparently a bio-pic is going to get made about Mr. Rogers. I love Mr. Rogers so much, and I really REALLY hope it's a good movie. So much is going to depend on getting the right person to play the lead.
