Noah looks like the worst movie ever. It's like they're trying to turn a bible story into 300. I think I'd be more offended that they've managed to whitewash Jews out of biblical stories, if it didn't look quite so bad.

Re: Upcoming Films
Whenever I see the commercial I start singing the Ned Flanders Noah song: "God said to Noah, build yourself an arkie-arkie." Russel Crowe singing that would be the only saving grace for the film. That and if the voice of God tells him to build a big room for poo.

While the lack of melanin in sword and sandals movies is pretty endemic, I don't think the word "Jew" would technically apply to any of these characters, as they predate Abraham.

Yeah, I agree. It happens so early in Genesis and the place of occurrence is rather vague.

If they had actually gone with actors of Middle Eastern origin I'd have considered that fitting - I'm just consistently amazed by Hollywood's need to cast white people in all roles (and Russell Crow, Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson are just so very, very white), and for some reason I find that especially striking in biblical stories since they're all coming out of ancient Caanan/Egypt/Persia. And now I've got Avenue Q's "Jesus was Jewish" in my head.

Re: Upcoming Films
I work in a comic book shop and there's a prequel comic series coming out for Noah that, based on the summary in the monthly "Previews" magazine we use to order upcoming books, implies that Noah is set on an alien planet.
None of the advertising for the movie corroborates this. But... just... what?
ETA: This explains that. Somewhat.

I agree with you that they are very white, but I think Jennifer Connelly is actually Jewish.

Yes, I do believe she's Jewish, which I recall being surprised about years ago because I assumed she was probably Irish Catholic or Protesant due to her surname.

Re: Upcoming Films
I saw a preview for The Fault in Our Stars before Veronica Mars the other day, and it's possible it got a little dusty in my theater while it was airing. I think Shailene Woodley is going to nail it (which makes me happy as I like her but don't care about Divergent).

Re: Upcoming Films
I'm actually rooting for Noah, because I like Arononofsky's movies, and because if flops, while the not-even-a-real-movie Son of God and the casting-Kevin-Sorbo-as-a-professor God's Not Dead overperform, well that's gotta do more harm to than good. (Though I'm more indifferent to Ridley Scott's Moses movie, because how many times are we going to see that story done? And it whitewashes actual ethnic groups)

Re: Upcoming Films
First trailer for Gone Girl, I'll admit I wasn't sold on Pike, mostly because of aging her down and Nick up, but that trailer put that to rest. I'm assuming
- Spoiler:
- the shot of her in the water is some Nick fantasy/nightmare, I know they changed the end but I can't see it going down like that.
Re: Upcoming Films
That trailer just reaffirms my belief that Ben Affleck should've played Scott Peterson in a movie.

Re: Upcoming Films
That trailer for Gone Girl (spoilering just in case)
- Spoiler:
- makes the story seem way more straightforward than it actually is. I wonder how the movie will come across without the benefit of the diary narration (which is kind of key to the book).

Father of the Bride 3. Because hey, why not?
(Also, every time we watched the first one, my mom was convinced the son was going to grow up to be a serial killer or something, because he was just ignored throughout. At least we know that isn't true, heh.)

That was like a Low T and a Cialis commercial combined.

There's a Father of the Bride 3? I never even imagined I'd hear about that.

If the Gibbons are left out of this latest ape revolt Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will in effect be paralleling the 3/5 rule.

The Fifty Shades trailer.
I actually had to stop watching it. Even with my low expectations, I found myself experiencing second-hand embarrassment. It's somehow even worse than I thought it would be which I didn't think was possible.

^ You took the words out of my mouth exactly. I think about 30 seconds in I stopped it and literally said outloud, "No. I hate you."

Oh man, judge me but I really want Beyonce's new version of "Crazy in Love." It's sexy and feels wasted on this trailer.

Watching this I was like "Why was I somehow expecting Robert Pattinson to be the lead guy?" AND THEN I REMEMBERED. Duh.
I continue not to understand why this is such a huge thing. (That's what she said.)
