The Bridge
Is anyone else watching it?
I am seriously intrigued enough to commit to watching it, despite possibly getting too frightened (you know nightmares from the storyline and murders in Mexico) by it! It brought up a sociopolitical aspect by posing the question why so much interest for 1 white woman when so many Mexican women go missing. It's bound to raise social inequities.
I found the Mexican scenes both corrupt, disgusting and interesting. I was surprised that Marco Ruiz is honest! Sonya was my mouthpiece when she said aren't you all supposed to be corrupt? So I like it. I think setting it in the Mexican-American border is going to be more gripping than setting in in the Canadian-American border (over on Windsor, ON), although I don't know how tv justice will be dispensed. Maybe in the Canadian border they would have had to come up with more drama to make it compelling. In the Mexican border, I believe there are so many stories to tell (that do not involved Univision's Primer Impacto garbage!).
The leads are so beautiful! Diana Kruger is playing a detective with undiagnosed Asperger's. I don't know much about the police force, so I can't tell how accurate it is that she would be working as such given her condition? Nor do I know if she is doing an accurate representation. I guess time will tell in my case what I think of her. But Marco, as the Mexican character, did not disappoint when he asked her why don't you have children? That is such a typical Latino question - why don't you have a boyfriend? Why don't you have children? None of your damn business! Ugh, that brought back memories of back home, argh! So, well done!
The first episode was an hour & half and I only hope, the rest are only an hour! Otherwise, Thurs mornings will be rough! I am posting Alan Sepinwall's review of the http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/review-fxs-the-bridge-a-gripping-look-at-crime-on-el-pasojuarez-border, where he also mentions this is a remake of Bron, a Scandinavian series set in the Danish-Swedish border.

Re: The Bridge
I missed the premiere because class ran late, so I'm hoping it's on Hulu Plus or otherwise available.

Re: The Bridge
Even with Detroit's problems I find the concept of setting this on the Northern Border laughably tame compared to El Paso.
There's a doc about the murders in Juarez (can't remember the title) that is good if you ever want to lose faith in humanity. A friend I grew up with was also in the Border Patrol for a while so this is of personal interest to me.
So far they are pulling off the serial killer methodology being performance art better than Dexter has lately.
Ted Levinne, there is one mental image I associate with you and it doesn't even need you to be in another serial murder mystery for it to spring to mind.

Re: The Bridge
So, I downloaded my cable package & one of the channels I lost is FX Canada....won't be watching The Bridge for the foreseeable future (unless I find a stream link on the weekends).

Re: The Bridge
I found the show kind of disconnected. Not sure how I feel about making the female lead asperger's-esque, but I'm leaning towards "lazy effort to make an interesting potentially unlikeable female character (who of course is still up for sex)". I tend to run hot and cold on FX's shows. Either I love them or they do absolutely nothing for me. Sadly, I think this show falls into the latter category.

Re: The Bridge
I thought Graciela's demand request for oral sex would be the most disturbing thing in this week's episode. Then I saw her shoes.
I don't know if anyone is still watching but I think this show is great.Kind of sorry they kept James LeGros alive as I've had issues with him since Singles. And Girls. Never mind. Apparently I've mistaken James LeGros for a younger crazy-eyed guy with similar forehead issues.
Also Dude- I'd totally be with you on the Levine/Jame Gumb thing but my TL disdain has just turned into big love over the years. I blame his portrayal of Stottlemeyer. However I am amused by the fact I find Steven Linder's delivery so similar to Levine's as Gumb.
