I can't help but think he identified with his character in Damage a liiiiiiiiitle bit too much.

Maybe he's just spent too much time on the set of The Borgias, and is going all method?

I appreciate that I got to see Stephen Colbert's apparently excellent Jeremy Irons impression, but I really hate why I got to see Stephen Colbert do a Jeremy Irons impression.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
I forget exactly how it went, but someone on Twitter posted something like SIMBA IS MUFASA'S HEIR, SCAR, GET OVER IT, which made it all a little better.
Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
I adore Jeremy Irons as an actor, but he seems kind of awful in real life, which I'm sad about. A few months back there were also quotes about how women are getting toointo the NO SEXUAL HARASSING thing because, oh my God, you guys, Jeremy Irons just wants to squeeze your butts IN A FUN WAY.
Also, yes, poor Max Irons. This coupled with the MY GORGEOUS SON quotes is worrying for him.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
I do have a positive Jeremy Irons anecdote, although it doesn't change all the crazy/sexist he's spewing of late: 20 years ago, he was playing the lead in King Lear in London. My friend had gone to see the play and had sketched him (and other parts of the play), but forgot her sketchbook in the theatre. The staff wouldn't allow her back in to get it, so she hung around and ended up seeing him come out. She told him she had enjoyed the play, and asked if he would let her into the theatre to get the sketchbook; he went in and got it for her, and even looked at the sketches and made funny comments about them (something about how he hoped he hadn't looked quite that scary or dark or something). Too bad his big picture ideas seem rather off.

Stephen Colbert was fantastic in that segment. Yeah, Jeremy Irons is a very good actor, but he seriously needs to shut up.

I don't know if this story about his hilariously overblown ego is true or not, but from what I've heard of him I suspect it is. What a strange, unpleasant man he sounds.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
Some of the kids in my class get to listen to The Lion King soundtrack at the end of the day if they've behaved well, and now I get a bit repulsed when I hear "Be Prepared." The song is eerie enough with Scar's plans for overthrowing his own brother, but now that I think of him (well, the voice behind the character) as maybe not seeing anything wrong with macking on Simba or whatever, it's skeevy.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
Do song lyrics count? Here's a bit of the Brad Paisley/LL Cool J collaboration Accidental Racist:
I’m just a white man
(If you don’t judge my do-rag)
Comin’ to you from the southland
(I won’t judge your red flag)
Tryin’ to understand what it’s like not to be
I’m proud of where I’m from
(If you don’t judge my gold chains)
But not everything we’ve done
(I’ll forget the iron chains)
it ain’t like you and me can re-write history
(Can’t re-write history baby)
The whole thing, really, it's just so earnest yet utterly clueless. Plus, listen to it! It's a country/rap "discussion" about racism. Couldn't they have brought a little urgency to the tempo? Or was it supposed to be so. very. slooooow. so we didn't forget it was about a "serious" topic? If there were a Razzies for music this song pull off an Adele-like sweep.(RIP Robert E. Lee but I’ve gotta thank Abraham Lincoln for freeing me, know what I mean)

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
The thing about this song (among so, so many other things) is that Brad Paisley is from West Virginia. Which was not part of the Confederacy. So STFU with that "Rebel Flag Southern Heritage" bullshit. You're not from the land of cotton, you're from the land of coal mines and tobacco. Also, you're racist.
I guess it's nice that LL Cool J is willing to forget all about slavery on behalf of all black people everywhere so long as some racist treats him with the minimum amount of respect that anyone should expect by not judging him on his gold chains. (Which, of course, white people don't ever wear.)

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
For some reason this reminds me of when Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell (back in the A League of Their Own era when they were real tight) were on Arsenio Hall together, and Rosie did this whole bit about how they were into rapping, and told Arsenio to suggest a serious topic and they would make up a rap on the spot, and he suggested racism.
ROSIE: Racism! It's really --
MADONNA: Bad.
ROSIE: Racism! It makes us --
MADONNA: Mad.
I think that was the whole thing. Heh.

Yeah, those are the same. Cool James are you secretly trolling Brad Paisely?

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
So Tom Sturridge, comes off as a bit of twit over the Alec/Shia feud. Apparently it's okay for Shia to share private email and sacred private rehearsal experiences on social media, in public. But it was everyone else's obligation to avert their eyes.
"It’s not your job to read them. I think that’s extraordinarily ethically questionable. It was a private e-mail, and you read it."
Come the fuck on, dude.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
I love how you can tell Alec is completely over his self-righteousness. The man must be like "How the hell did they manage to hire TWO up their own asses kids to play my sons?" At which point, maybe he might think about what that says. Hee.

I dunno. We are talking about a man who used the line "Deepest/Bluest/My hat is like a shark's fin," for a song.
LL's a legend in his own right, but I feel like the song wouldn't be as much drivel if someone from the south (such as Luda) or even Chuck D performed on it. But they'd offer a bite that doesn't go with the "WHY CAN'T WE GET ALONG" tone of the song.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
I love LL, I do, but looking at Brad Paisley's lyrics, I am pretty sure he is the only rapper they could get on that shit...well maybe Ja. But like, pretty sure if Brad asked Chuck D, it wouldn't end well for him.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
Suddenly there is nothing in the world I want more than to see what Chuck D's face might have looked like if he had been asked. I know he wasn't, but my imagined version is pretty entertaining right now.

I still remember the time he went off on Flava Flav about Flava of love at a press conference.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
If Chuck D had been asked to guest on that track, we'd all be reading Brad Paisley in the Death Poll thread right about now. Or a few months ago right after he invited Chuck D to work with him.

Re: Celebrity Dumb Quotes
I have a hard time believing he would have been that clueless to write something like that in a guestbook & I thought it was another Internet rumour, but it comes from a reliable source? If so, I think it's time to put his picture next to the word "self-centered" in the dictionary. I know he's 19, but someone needs to give him (or at least) lend him a clue how he's coming across. Yikes.
(I remember how moved I was after having been to Anne Frank's house. I don't know how you can go through that whole house/museum & not be a little humbled by it all.)
