Oh man. You can't go wrong with anything by Closer. The Pizza and a Movie-verse is pretty fantastic. I just finished rereading it last week actually.

Closer also wrote an amazing Suits/Avengers crossover that is one of my favorite crossovers ever:
Harvey Specter wasn't the rich renegade badass that plucked Mike from his potential life of crime.

Tony Stark was.
Sam Storyteller/Copperbadge has also written in the fandom and his stuff tends to be good. Other than that, I have read a bunch but nothing that sticks out to me. I find that other than Closer, this fandom lacks any Damn That Was Amazing writers. There are some good story ideas, but I've found them to be sloppily executed.

Oh man, I just finished the "Pizza and a Movie"-verse and it was so adorable I'm grinning like an idiot. Seriously, anyone looking in my window right now would think I have a mental illness. And I've read all the rest of Closers stuff, except that Avengers crossover which I'm just about to start. Whee!

And then, since I've already read Sam Storyteller's stuff, I guess it's time to hit up Crack-Van LJ. Or maybe re-read "Exquisite", speaking of Sam Storyteller....

Sherlock fans: I just finished a double (triple?)-AU genfic called Not Yet Dead. It was pretty good, very readable and has a really fascinating premise heavily in the tradition of The Great Game, i.e., Sherlock Holmes is real. In this case, both the 19th and the 21st century Holmes live(d), but ACD's Holmes actually died at Reichenbach and his murder was unsolved. The current, BBC Sherlock (AU after "The Blind Banker") becomes obsessed with the murder and his own flashback dreams, and seeks a solution...check it out!

I thought this might be appreciated by SFers: Studies in Mystical Cousin Olivers 101 (a.k.a Dawn Edison), in which Abed Nadir finds something a little . . . off about Annie's younger sister, Dawn--like she wasn't there before. I love how this plays with Abed as the group's observer, the one who sees all. Community is so crack-y and meta-happy that this really could be an episode!

Well, damn. Why weren't publishers more savvy ten years ago? I totally had an awesome Backstreet Boys fic that could've been a bestseller!

I've run across some delightful Avengers gen fics tonight:

'Six Meetings Before Lunch' by victoria_p - Some excellent Steve and Thor friendship vignettes. I really like how this author gets that Thor not being too familiar with our world =/= stupid or childish.

'Six Times the Avengers Stopped an Alien Invasion' by Closer - Exactly what it says on the tin! So funny! A quote:

"What I want to know is why they're all so fucking intent on genociding us," Clint continued. "Does space make people really angry? Does the capability for travel between solar systems encourage violent behavior? Do they hate jazz music or something? Because these people, I swear, they need some Sesame Street remedial lessons in getting the fuck along."

"I'd watch that," he heard Tony say. "Clint Barton guest stars on Sesame Street, in a segment PBS calls Getting the Fuck Along. I'd make a major donation to public television for that. I wonder how much I'd have to give them to get them to do a beeped out fuck on Sesame Street."

'Culture and Other Balls of Twine' by LithiumDoll - Yesssss! I loves me a good roadtrip fic! Here, Tony decides to drag Bruce to see the world's biggest ball of twine and they gradually acquire the other Avengers along the way. Very, very funny with a nice poignant undercurrent. Here's a small snippet:

Tony abruptly stopped tapping and, with a magician’s flourish of his hand, looked up. “Okay, I realize this could appear to be poorly conceived - to those of limited vision - but what you have to understand is, I’ve actually just had the greatest, most outstanding idea ever.” Tony’s eyes searched heavenward and then he nodded soberly. “Yes, I believe history will consider this my triumph.”

Bruce stared at him from across the table, his empty fork paused in descent.

Tony pushed his phone to the side and leaned forward urgently. “Wait, hear me out.”

“I am hearing you out.” Bruce gestured to his plate with the fork. “Eating pancakes. Drinking coffee. Hearing you out.”

“Huh. Usually people have started edging away by now. Or saying ‘no’ a lot and looking disappointed in my life choices. Weird.”

Bruce shrugged. “They’re good pancakes. Tell me your plan.”

So I just saw Skyfall and I am sad to find that there is very little Moneypenny in fic. Why isn't she in ALL THE STORIES? I mean, Q is fine, but COME ON, MONEYPENNY IS AWESOME.

*glances at screen name* Not that I'm biased or anything.

95% of fanfic is about getting Two White Guys together.

If anyone questions whether this trend ignores all the women and characters of color, that person will be shouted down as homophobic, despite not ever saying anything negative about gay couples. This will happen even if the poster was suggesting a slash couple with a person of color--say, wondering why Shawn/Lassiter is the dominant pairing and not Shawn/Gus.

A woman of color has little chance of being beloved by the (primarily female) fanbase that writes fan fiction.

I may be more than a little bitter.

Oh no, I totally get you. And it makes me bitter too. You should see the rants I've done about Sherlock vs Elementary (which I won't get into because right now I'm in a happy place thinking of Moneypenny/Q). I've found some stuff, but it's not as much as Bond/Q (which I don't get because really, they didn't seem to have that chemistry together -- I'm more likely to argue Silva/Bond if you want slash).

Also thanks for the recommendations Raksha -- the road trip one was particularly good.

Oh, as The World's Only Het Shipper (okay, maybe I just feel that way) I know exactly what you're talking about. I do have some slash pairings that I love, but not so much that I don't generally also end up shipping those characters with All The Girls.

Just in general, though, I feel like this has a been a really good year for kick-ass female characters and I would like to read more about them getting some. IS THAT REALLY SO MUCH TO ASK?

Moneypenny/Q

GIMME. Sigh. I'm going to have to write it myself, aren't I?

This is the ONLY ONE I found that I truly like:

All you need to make a movie is a gun and a girl by Postcardmystery. The author didn't picture Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, but it still works really well.

And I am a rare bird: I prefer het, but what I really prefer is good writing period. There's writers I like, but everything seems to be about porn and that just gets boring after awhile.

Kind of a combo of two worlds, unfortunately no Moneypenny, but still enjoyable: Avengers/Bond: Jusqu'à la fois suivante. The author's summary -- Natasha runs into an old friend unexpectedly. I read this the night after seeing Skyfall, so I found it highly entertaining.

That one cracked me up. Just the whole last line made me smile.

I also found this:

So You Were Never a Saint by paperclipbitch. Friendship between Q/Eve/Bond and it's just funny and good.

Yay, I'm glad you liked them! You'll probably like this one too: "It Starts Out Like an A-Word (As Anyone Can See)" by Amy and it is THE MOST ADORABLE AVENGERS FIC IN EXISTENCE. Basically, the muppets on Sesame Street are real and they meet the Avengers when they come to help rebuild Sesame Street after the Chitauri invasion. And then every chapter after that focuses on a different Avenger interracting with different muppets. This fic should not work in any way, but it somehow really does and I legit teared up in a few places.

Fandomaid is still holding its SUPERSTORM SANDY AUCTION. There are a couple of people offering Bond movie fanfic. Maybe you could bid and request some Moneypenny fic?

Has anyone started poking around Yuletide yet? I read Spring Fling and it was so gloriously cracky and happy-making that I almost don't want to read anything else. It's Avengers RPF from ScarJo's POV, which sounds kind of unappealing? But it's wonderful, trust me.

This story probably has the limited audience of people who hang at FailFandomAnon but I really liked this fic. I also liked this backstory fic for Cabin in the Woods, Monsters, Inc. It actually gets the humor of the movie. And for those who've read the Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas I thought Enciente was a nice future fic about Evie and St. Vincent.

Seven for a Secret is a very Angela Carter-esque approach to the Disney Princesses. I adored it, especially the Jasmine story.

Texting fic appears to have become a Yuletide tradition, and this year's is in Invisible Cities fandom, which I had no idea even existed (although this being Yuletide, I should have known better). Marco Polo: worst tour guide ever?

I don't suppose anyone's come across a good Sherlock/Neverwhere crossover? That seems like some fertile ground. I Googled and only got a handful; I trust your recommendations more, if any.

Oh, goddam you, I went and googled that and now my brain hurts.

A story prompt for you all. GAAAAAHHHHHHHH! with added Supernatural real people fic creepiness.

There are three types of men, alpha males, beta males, and omega males. Alpha males are like any ordinary guy with the exception of their cocks, they work just like canines (the knot, tons of cum, strong breeders, etc) The beta male, is an ordinary guy without the special cock. Omega males are capable of child bearing and often called bitch males.

Jensen was born an omega but he's never let any guy touch his ass and he never will. When he gets hired for Supernatural and he meets Jared, an alpha male, who he expects to be a jackass. But Jared's just Jared, loud, silly, and adorable. They become great friends and Jensen ends up living with Jared. Life is fine for them until Jared gets engaged to Genevieve and Jensen finds himself unexpectedly jealous and miserable. A slightly drunk Jensen convinces himself he just needs an alpha male around and brings a stranger home. Jared's supposed to be out for the night but he come home and catches them. Jensen figures Jared will just laugh it off but Jared doesn't at all, in fact he get really angry. He kicks the guy out and roughly show's Jensen who he belongs to. Jared's been in love with Jensen for years but always respected Jensen's choice, but if he's suddenly a slut for knot it's going to be Jareds and only his.
