Re: The Art of the Book Cover
The new cover reminds me of all those self-published ebooks you see around these days, where someone has obviously nicked the first vaguely relevant picture from Google. Maybe the publishers think that's the trend of the future?

Red, it IS self-published. Not only is it "like" those covers, it's one of them.

AOGG is. The Bell Jar cover actually is a real 50th Anniversary edition. The thing is, I can kind of get down with the concept of it...slightly miserable woman going through the motions of putting on make-up. But the execution is so tacky. The bright red, the font, the almost cartoonish look to the image. It's just so badly done.

Ah, I missed that bit. Good to know I was right. But why can't people take the time to find better covers? It just reeks of not caring about the product.particle_person wrote:Red, it IS self-published. Not only is it "like" those covers, it's one of them.

A strong contender for year's worst, the Diary of Anne Frank!
It reminds me of those old pulp novels about Satan-worshipping lesbians or something. That style. I have no idea what the style is actually called, though. Anyone else know?

Re: The Art of the Book Cover
The cover makes the book seem like a teen romance novel from the 80s. I don't claim to be an expert on fashion of the 1930s/40s but I'm pretty sure jean jackets did not exist back then.

Are we sure that's not actually an ad for feminine hygiene products from 1985?

It looks like a Sweet Valley High cover.

It's not even good enough to be an SVH cover, it's like one of the random generic 80's books that were one-off titles written by authors you never heard of.
Hands down one of the worst mismatches of cover art and subject matter that I've ever seen.
