Andrew Scott officially came out in an interview with the Indie this week, though he was more or less out anyway.

Hah! Her own family is dysfunctional enough without getting involved in that mess.

Maria Bello comes out with an extremely moving story about how she told her son she was in love with a woman. I cried.

That was just beautiful.

Never saw that one coming, but then I suppose it took even Bello offguard. It's great that she could be so honest with her young son and that he understands love is love no matter what.

Don't read the comments (though many are supportive). This should probably go without saying.

I'm reminded of the Anne Heche affair. For the unaware, she famously dated Ellen Degeneris, went a bit bonkers, then got married to a fellow. She got some harsh treatment for that last bit - she was either delusional or a traitor or something. But it was said then that she never said she was gay, just that she was in love. Which is a fair point. In both of the above cases, they are so articulate, so forthright and penetrating - they don't avoid "gay"/"Lesbian"/"bisexual", they clearly and deliberately show how they don't need such terms, won't be restricted by them, and hope the rest of the world can deal otherwise tough.

It's not like they coordinated their heartfelt and amazing press releases, either. Astonishing.

Glad to have lived to see it.

Corvus, I love that they haven't labeled themselves. Neither Daly nor Bello says they are only attracted to women or to men. They just find themselves now with members of their own genders, and to leave labels out of the equation means they acknowledge the openness and fluidity of their sexual/romantic natures.

Add Brian Boitano to the list of openly gay athletes on the US Olympic delegation to Russia.

He never officially said anything but everyone already knew. I think he just made the announcement now due to being a Sochi delegate and wanting to join in and give the Russian government the finger. He'll be the third openly gay athlete now in the US delegation.

My initial reaction was from a Kids In The Hall sketch (I'm trying to find it online, but to no avail) in which a flamboyantly gay actor comes out to his closest friend, whose response was "Well, you're the LAST to know!"

Robin Roberts of GMA comes out.

I would imagine after that awful illness and treatment she endured over the past year, this is a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. As it should be, and good for her.

Football player Michael Sam comes out.

It's kind of a big deal since he is doing it before the draft. He's projected in as a 2nd round pick.

Those quotes SI ran from the anonymous pro execs/coaches are not very encouraging, but hopefully teams take away that Sam's teammates knew about him being gay last year and still had a great season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up with the Seahawks, they're in the Northwest and Macklemore is practically the team mascot.

Seattle doesn't need a defensive back or outside linebacker. Maybe he will end up at the Colts and he can guest on Parks and Recreation. Mike Schur and Parks writer Joe Mande were tweeting about how he was a Parks and Recreation, Tourism major.

He had a lot of poise in the interview clips I saw. Regardless of his talent, I thought it sucks that he got to be asked, more or less, how he will resist instigating gay orgies in the locker room at his workplace. Poor little NFL players, so vulnerable to the predatory gayness.

That first quite is amusing, probably unintentionally. I thought he was a man's man.
