Anthony Mackie freaking ruled as Falcon. That whole character came off even better than I was expecting and while I don't know that there's enough "there" to build a solo movie around, I'm excited to see what happens with Cap 3.

ITA, he was fantastic. I love how this movie played more like an ensemble piece, because Falcon, Black Widow and even Maria Hill all had chances to kick butt and be awesome.

Am I the only one who thought it was weird:
that when Natasha says Sharon's name at the end, she doesn't say "Sharon Carter"? It seemed like a buildup to that.

I didn't know how to feel about
SPOILER:
the non-reveal of Sharon's surname. Because on one hand, I think it has some Drama Potential, since Natasha doesn't seem to know Steve's connection to Peggy, and Steve's not saying anything about it, and the fact that Sharon's related to Peggy is probably something that the casual viewer wouldn't know and that reveal would kind of blow their minds.

It looks like TWS is primed to hit $10 million this weekend. If it does that, I think Cap 3 will prove to be a very, very worthy rival to the Batman/Superman flick. Someone at WB is probably shaking in their boots right now.

I looooved this movie so much! I, too, didn't see half this movie coming in spite of my spoiler whore-ness, and it just delighted me. I need to see it again immediately.

I've never been the biggest S.H.I.E.L.D. fan (there's no transparency or accountability and they make so many shady ass decisions, it makes me uncomfortable), so this whole thing delighted me to no end. I think this means really good things for the TV show, though, since Coulson's little group can break off and go A-Team. I mean, you can't tell me they didn't know about what was planned for this movie before that series had even started filming, so I think they've already planned for it.

Anthony Mackie was fantastic as Falcon and I'm super excited to see more of him. He's so charming and I can totally see him and Steve becoming BFFs.

I also really loved the end credits black and white animation. Like, kind of the pre-credits credits? You know what I mean. Very stylish and cool.

Right?! They are so adorable and have the most interesting chemistry. I want all the fic now. Although, I also ship Natasha with Hawkeye still, so I quietly squeed to myself about the arrow necklace she wore through the whole film.

Kelly Sue DeConnick reblogged this on tumblr, which made me laugh.  And someone in the notes said "90% sure he's at Tony's playing Mario Cart."  I think it's either that or dealing with some Russians in track suits (seriously, bro).

Also, I hadn't realized the trailers for this never showed a clear shot of The Winter Soldier's face.  The people in my theater (including my mom) freaked out when they saw who it was!  That was really fun!

It was almost the exact same reaction people had when Benedict Cumberbatch said, "My name is Khan." Part of me enjoying the shocked gasps, another part of me - the elitist nerd snob I try to suppress - inwardly sighing, "Really, people?"

In their defense Cumberbatch looks more like the Gorn captain than anything.

DC should just be embarrassed at this point, Marvel have so completely outclassed them. I can't imagine them ever putting out a movie like this. I thought Cap 3 wouldn't stand much of a chance against Bat v Supes, but having seen The Winter Soldier I'm not so sure anymore. I know I'm personally much more excited for the next part of this story than I am for the Batfleck.

spoilers ho!:
I can't believe they just wiped SHIELD, that was a really brave move and one you never saw coming. They really, really went there. And I liked that Bucky just walked at the end. No hokey reunion scene or sudden flashback. Gives them room to do something interesting.

I thought it was almost as much the Black Widow's movie as it was Captain America's. They made a really good pairing - buddy spies? Is that a genre now? It should be. Their journey from colleagues to friends was nice but subtly played. The whole thing also convinced me that you could absolutely do a Black Widow solo movie. There's no excuse now.

Anyone else think Zola the computer was super, super creepy? And the glimpse of the twins at the end was great. Particularly the way they were doing Quicksilver's super speed. I suspect the Marvel version of the character is going to make the X-Men incarnation look ridiculous.

To be fair, this is not a difficult task -- people have pointed out how even the porn parody version of Quicksilver looks better/more accurate than the one in the X-men movie.

There was a dude in my theater that excitedly yelled out "There he is!" when Stan Lee showed up. He sounded like he'd gone back to being a 10 year old.

It was awesome. Took "Let's make it bigger!" to a whole new level. Loved it.

So my telephone tech at work (of course he was IT) put forth a theory for what Marvel is doing. Sebastian Stan is signed to 9 films, and it looks like they are spinning off  Black Widow, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man etc... He thinks this may all lead to a film of

Also, they filmed a Hawkeye scene but it was  cut. I hope it makes the DVD *fingers crossed*

I saw the movie on Friday night, in a full theater, and it was awesome. The whole crowd was super into it, which made everything better.

I love Natasha and Steve as bros. I think they have great friend chemistry.  I loved how the plot of the movie was so tied into Natasha's story
Spoiler:
since she turned to SHIELD in the first place to wipe out some of that red in her ledger, and having SHIELD as an incubator for HYDRA absolutely destroys that attempt. I wasn't thrilled that she didn't have her comic book background though. I loved the idea of her as a super-soldier-serumed, older-than-she-looks, instructed-by-Winter-Soldier, Russian spy. Of all of those things, I really wanted her to have a history with Bucky, since we know that they've both been remade - although I suppose that it's possible that SHIELD's info was wrong. I guess we'll see. I'd love for Sebastian Stan to show up in a prequel Black Widow movie.

When the casting notices went around, I really expected Sharon Carter to have this big role as a love interest, so it was interesting to me that they basically gave her screen time to Falcon. And Anthony Mackie was wonderful in the part. He has a really warm screen presence. I loved how mature and understanding he seemed at the VA, and how much fun he was having with his wings. He and Cap played off each other really well. I was also super amused that, once again,
Spoiler:
Bucky serves as Steve's damsel in distress
.

There was a moment, in the final fight scene
Spoiler:
when Steve was refusing to fight Bucky after having ensured the distruction of the Hellicariers, that one of the guys behind me was like "what is this, Lord of the Rings?"  And all I could hear was Elijah Wood's voice saying "I'm glad you're here Sam, here at the end of all things." So good call, guy sitting behind me.

laddical wrote:It's been a popular theory in my circle, as well.

I've also heard speculation on that front.
Spoiler:
If that's true, I guess it'd be a gracious way to finish off the movies that Chris Evans is signed for, right?  He contracted for 6, so we'll have Age of Ultron, Cap 3, and then he dies at the end of Avengers: Civil War? And Bucky takes over as Captain America? I would cry, a lot, but it would work.

Well, on the subject of that popular theory...

I did wonder if they were making an allusion to the Civil War when Natasha essentially told the committee 'what are you doing to do, lock us up? You need us' at the end. Foreshadowing maybe?

I saw a post on Tumblr that also pointed out that Nick Fury shut down Tony's decryption program in The Avengers just a leeeetle bit too soon.

Did anyone see this in 3d? I am thinking of going again but shelling out for IMAX 3D. The more I think about the movie the more kermit flaily I get.

I enjoyed the movie. I think giving almost equal thirds of the spotlight to Falcon and Black Widow was a really good choice. Chris Evans is super cute, but Captain America is too wholesome to be my favorite superhero, he really needs less perfect people to bounce off. Although Falcon was pretty damn perfect and handsome, too. I want some wings.
