Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
I'm so freaking excited for this show I'm vibrating with joy and making a high pitched "EEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" sound that I think only my cats can hear. So happy!
*runs off to put Once Upon a Time on the DVR*
This will be the only time I've ever gone out of my way to record something for a "sneak peek"

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
It seems like Luke Cage is the popular assumption. It would be super awesome if they could spin-off Luke Cage appearances into a Jessica Jones TV show, like I think they were hoping to do a while back. Unlikely, but awesome. For now, I'm interested to see how the show will do on its own. I'm not even sure how much they're planning on tying it to comics S.H.I.E.L.D? But I'm definitely going to watch.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Apparently the official site, which can be reached either through agentsofshield.com or wearetherisingtide.com, is having one of those social media "unlocks" for an extended trailer.
The concept behind Rising Tide seems to be that SHIELD is covering a bunch of stuff up. And I get that SHIELD isn't exactly going to be an open book. But the level of paranoia in the Rising Tide "blog" seems excessive. SHIELD keeps secrets, but isn't itself a secret. Otherwise Coulson wouldn't have introduced himself to Pepper as being from the "Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division". It's like the CIA - everyone knows it's there, even if they don't know exactly what they're doing. So this whole, "Are these SHIELD agents???? What?????" seems overwrought. Obviously Nick Fury isn't going to be hosting press conferences to tell everyone, "Hey, we have this funky cube we fished off the ocean floor and we're going to be making hella weapons with it", but given that Iron Man is a known quantity and a major celebrity and the whole world knows about the Battle of New York, it's not like there aren't some answers floating around.
I mean, conspiracy nuts are going to think everything they know is really just cover something they don't know, but I feel like anyone living in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who comes across the Rising Tide is going to be like, "Dudes. Chill. Yes, SHIELD exists. They're a part of the Department of Homeland Security. Duh."

From a story-telling perspective, it is kinda shenanigans that #CoulsonLives, but I can't bring myself to be irked about it because YAY #CoulsonLives!

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
And now a full 2:47 trailer:
"Welcome to Level 7."
Looks like the pundits were right about Tuesday night. I'm wondering if they plan to give it the 8 or 10 slot.
I'm starting to find the refrain amongst fans "Don't get too attached" to be extremely irritating. I get it, I get it... it's a Joss show. But before Firefly and Dollhouse, there was Buffy and Angel. And Dollhouse lasted two seasons! So the whole "Joss never gets to finish anything because of those evil evil networks!" is bullshit.
But it's especially bullshit now, because we're not talking about a Joss Whedon quirky horror comedy sci-fi mash-up. It probably will be all of those things, but more importantly, it's a cog in the giant Marvel wheel and ABC isn't going to be looking over Joss' shoulder and handing him notes like, "No horses!" And ABC isn't a network that cancels stuff. They gave FlashForward a full season despite its shitty ratings, and V got two shots at working. Unless the ratings just suck - and it's going to have to work hard, I think, to not be a hit - we're going to get some mileage out of this thing.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Also ABC is clearly putting a lot of effort and time and money into this. Add to that ABC is owned by Disney which also owns Marvel. This is their baby just as much as Joss'.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Yeah, there's a big difference between a quirky niche-audience show and a cross-promotional in-house industry juggernaut.
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Some fans will give up the image of Joss as quirky, independent outsider over their dead bodies. It's gotta be tough to think of him as one of the cool kids now.
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Which is funny because, lbr, he stopped being the quirky outsider the minute that Fox gave him a second show despite the dismal ratings and high budget of the first (and I really liked Firefly but its true), and that show got a second season despite ITS bad ratings and being less critically acclaimed then the rest of his output.
People have been wanting to be in the business of Joss Whedon season he got of the WB ghetto, let it go people.
I am very very very excited for this show, and the thing I am most excited for is to see J. August Richards regularly on my tv. I adore him and was always sad his career wasn't better.

YOU GUYS I AM REALLY EXCITED FOR THIS SHOW.
Is that Cobie Smulders doing the voice-over at one point? I really wish HIMYM had ended this season so she could be on it but maybe they can set it up so she's on assignment for a year and is on it next year?

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
I'm pretty sure that's Ming-Na. They both have sultry-dark voices, though.
Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Seriously you guys. Seriously. I haven't been this excited for a television show since, forever. Since I was a kid. It's like I'm in some kind of squee feedback loop.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
I did read somewhere they were in talks with Cobie Smulders to get her on as a guest this year with the possibility of becoming a regular next season.
Out of all the non Jason Segal HIMYM cast members though she seems the most poised for success on film so who knows.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Maria Hill is in the pilot; Cobie confirmed as a recurring guest throughout the first season.
And spoilers for the pilot below the first few paragraphs of that link.
SO STINKIN' EXCITED.

I'm going to guess they are going to try to make her a regular as soon as shes done with HIMYM? Awesome.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
I am really looking forward to that -- Cobie is great and I feel like HIMYM has been so disappointing the past couple of seasons that it hasn't really given the actors a chance to shine.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
This works out great for Cobie, because if the show is a success, she can transition right into it as a regular once HIMYM ends.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
AAAAAAAH! Just five more days!
But Marvel/ABC are already on to the next big thing - Agent Carter! Hope they can convince Hayley Atwell to come back. Either way, I'm all in favor of period spy drama! Especially with the inevitable wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey sweeps week crossover with Agents of SHIELD.
