I finally finished the season.  I have to say I did not to expect
Spoiler:

Way to make Silent Norma count.

Someone should just give Natasha Lyonne and Taryn Manning their Golden Globes right now.  It will be a shame if one of them isn't nominated.  Even though I think they both deserve it.

I feel the same way.  Maybe because they emphasized how much promise she originally had.  The little girl who played her in the flashback was incredible.  When she turns around and sees that she's alone because she's so fast, it killed me.  You could see her confusion and realization grow deeper and deeper..  I think the experience of girls being told they should tone down their talents and make themselves less intimidating is something that many women know.

I've now seen through the Tall Man episode. The Crazy Eyes/Suzanne actress is so good. Would love to see an ep on her with her family.

Yes!! Those duct tape shower shoes were pretty amazing and I just about died of laughter at the tampon crown.

Officer Bennett is so HOT, but man is that relationship wrong town. I pretty much hate Mr. Healy and Pornstache with a burning, burning passion. UGH when does this show come back.

The potato chips are "Lets"!  I wonder how many shows that's on...

UGH when does this show come back.

Unfortunately, probably right in the sweet spot next June/July where it'll be eligible for the following year's Emmys, but will remind voters to vote for this season in that year's.

I need to know everything there is to know about Crazy Eyes. She's amazing.

Also, I stumbled across some hilarious videos linked in a Buzzfeed article about Matt McGorry, who plays Bennett; he used to be a bodybuilder/personal trainer who posted to YouTube occasionally. Here he is enjoying a cheat meal. He seems pretty much as adorable IRL as he is on the show.

Double posting, but I just learned that Red is Captain Janeway! And also, Laverne Cox, the trans actress who plays Sophia, has a twin brother who played her pre-transition on the show. I wondered how they managed the makeup for that one. I guess I should start paying attention to the credits.

I'm streaming the episodes but I've only been able to watch 4. Episodes 5 & 6 are impossible to watch due to the buffering every second! I think I will read the episode guides instead (if I find them online!).
It's too bad because I was really enjoying the individual stories.

Have you tried starting it, and then pausing and doing something else while waiting for the entire video to load?

Since my cable has been disconnected, I'm rewatching the entire season on my phone (fortunately a friend is allowing me to use their Netflix account so I'll have some entertainment in my home).

I'm currently loading episodes 4 & 5 and doing other things =)
But I also placed a hold for the book from the library. It might be faster to read the book than to stream these videos!

I finished it last night. GOOD STUFF.

I love Taystee (of course), Natasha Lyonne, crazyface Taryn Manning, Daya (she is just the most precious ever), Black Cindy, the track star girl, Poussey...I like everybody. I know everyone's said this but it is SO REFRESHING to watch a show that is not ONLY skinny white 25-year-old hot girls (and men of course). I can't even think of a character who was featured prominently on the show who wasn't compelling in some way. Even the transparently horrible prison director lady (Fernandes?) had moments of humanity -- not like, "redemptive" moments but just moments where she was shown NOT to just be transparently horrible.

I am obsessed with Morello's accent. What the hell is it? OK, I just finally googled her and she's Australian. That explains A LOT.

Track star girl (Jenae?)'s story was the only time I cried all 13 episodes. I loved the friendship she formed with Yoga Jones.

Kate Mulgrew is great but I got a little tired of her character.

I said this on Facebook but I COULD NOT BELIEVE that sweet Nicky Sobotka from The Wire is Pornstache. I literally did not recognize him, and even after I knew it was him I had a hard time reconciling the two. I think that guy is a pretty damn amazing actor. I'm also QUITE familiar with Taryn Manning (and I think she has a pretty distinctive face) but I STILL IMDB'd her to make sure it was her.

I sort of loved that Bennett
Spoiler:

Speaking of the guards I loved both Fischer and the woman who started talking about ghosts or whatever in the guardhouse and like stole the scene.

Holy crap, how could I forget Crazy Eyes? I loved her SO much. I think that actress is fantastic.

Pretty sure if I went to prison Laura Prepon would turn me gay in about 15 minutes.

I don't think it's Breaking Bad levels of genius or anything. It's a little sitcom-y in places. But still a really solid, enjoyable, compelling, SUPER WATCHABLE show.

Don't read the book thinking you'll know what's going on in the show.  The book is nothing at all like the show.  Nothing.  Don't get me wrong, it's an okay read but they take a lot of liberties with the story.  The book is boring in comparison.

Yael Stone is Australian but I thought Morello was Italian and that was the actors attempt at an Italian accent.

I thought she was doing a kind of My Cousin Vinny thing, but some of her pronunciations were SO WEIRD that I wasn't sure where that other weird ingredient was coming from. So if she's Australian and she's doing Brooklyn or what have you then that makes sense.

My boyfriend and I just finished this show and, wow, it was amazing. Between this and House of Cards, Netflix has a good name going for itself in terms of original programs.

And man,
Spoiler:

I watched 5 or more episodes before I realized who was playing Red. I had even thought she looked vaguely familiar. It wasn't until I really paid attention to the credits that I went "Kate Mulgrew...Captain Janeway is in this? Who does she...RED!"

I'm up to episode 7 and boy, does Piper annoy the everliving daylights out of me! She's so stupid, self-centrered, doesn't know when to keep quiet and has her head up her ass - ugh! I get the feeling Healy is up to something and that something bad might happen to Red.

I tried the first two episodes and I don't see the comedy. It's light for a drama, if a tad uncomfortable at times, but it's not funny. Only thing I can think is the producers are pushing it that way so it doesn't have to compete head to head with "House of Cards" for Netflix's Emmy glory.

Really? I find it quite funny. Dark and sad too, but I find a lot of humor in it as well.

There were parts of it I found as laugh-out-loud funny, in a dark way, as anything on television. In particular, I thought the Scared Straight visit was absolutely hysterical. Umm,
