I'm glad I was in never in any era/place where that hip thingy to make the dress wider was fashionable. My hips got enough padding on their own, thanks, heh.

Caught the second episode, continue to fall in love with the scenery and music. I missed the bit where Claire was humming the song that was playing on the radio in her last scene with Frank.
Love Gellis, and love that she plays interpreter for Claire. I can't remember if the girl that Jamie saves is the cooks granddaughter in the book or not, but liked the touch.

Re: Outlander
I don't really trust Ron Moore with it though, he'll probably make it worse oh man.
It'll be interesting to see how they do approach it because I've seen a review that looks at the show from a feminist viewpoint, I believe it's Roxanne Gay who's writing those. And so many reviewers looked at the first episode as an anti-Game of Thrones (which I don't watch so I dunno about that) in how it portrayed Claire. I'm thinking either way that scene is going to spark a lot of chatter.

Re: Outlander
Picked up the first book out of curiosity and am generally enjoying it, though skipping through the endless impromptu monologues that people break into from time to time.
THAT SCENE really made me uncomfortable and mostly turned me off Jamie's character. I have a feeling they'll probably leave it in for the grittiness factor. Ugh.

Something tells me they'll be cutting that one.

They are leaving out the second scene, they said.

I had forgotten about Lagohaire! I think Diana must have chosen that name to make Americans sound stupid. I did remember that Collen's condition was the reason Claire tripped over the parentage of the Mackenzie heir- Toulouse-Lautrec syndrome makes him infertile, and Gellis Duncan

Laoghaire is pronounced like Leery which is pretty apt for the character.

Re: Outlander
I've finally watched the first two episodes and I'm enjoying it so far! I'm glad they've cut out a lot of the meandering through the Highlands, because in the book that first half really dragged for me and I think there was too much of that, but I think they've done a great job so far. I like the casting of Claire, Jamie and Frank/Captain Randall. The preview for the third episode looks like they've bumped some stuff forward, specifically
- Spoiler:
- Claire telling someone (Jamie? I couldn't tell) that she's from another time. I literally just read that part of the book last week and she doesn't tell him till the second half when she's almost killed with Gellie for being a witch. Or does that happen earlier in the book? I can't remember.
Re: Outlander
eventide, re: your question which I'll answer by saying all is not what it seems in that episode 3 trailer. But if you want more detail:
This show is my new crack and I don't even care. I am loving Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan together. (Did you know she's from County Monaghan? Why, that is (some ways) just up the road from where I live. Local girl does good!) They have a great chemistry together and seriously, while my heart belongs to CAVILL, I am not averse to eyeing up another tall buff lad with great legs while I wait for the next Superman flick. I was not all that bothered about Claire and Jaime's tru luv while reading the books but now I believe their love is A FOREVER THING!
They are giving Claire a fab wardrobe. I do not want a bum roll or corset but she has skirts with pockets and a nice line in cloaks. I could wear those.
- Spoiler:
- It's Claire imagining the reaction she'd get if she told Mrs Fitz

QueenSix I am right there with you. I love how he was like "DIDN'T YOU SEE ME WAVE LIKE 10 BILLION TIMES??"

Isn't Diana American?

I didn't think the author was foreign, just the name. Jamie even tells Claire (or us) that we are saying Brianna's name wrong, it's supposed to be Bree-anna. Its sounds lovely, I just did not have the foggiest idea of what it could be.

It's been over a day so technically I'm not double-posting.
According to this, the episode airing on September 27th is titled "The Wedding".
Just thought I'd share.

- Spoiler:
- The wedding happens while they are out collecting taxes, and it is pretty early in the book.
I'm really enjoying the show so far, especially the chemistry between the actors playing Jamie and Claire.

Re: Outlander
I thought that scene with the guy dying took a bit too long. I get what they were going for, but it started to feel like they were padding for time after a bit.
The 1940s music was weird at first, and then when I realized what they were doing, I thought it was clever, but they shoulda only done it for the one scene.
Oh, and that was it for the French? :shakes fist: people made it seem like actually had a conversation.

Re: Outlander
oh and I have to say, I have to say, I do think they are pretty good about toning down the gore, although I suppose there hasn't been much opportunity yet - Starz usually goes way overboard on this stuff and so far it's been surprisingly sparing, and it's made the actually nasty stuff all the more shocking. I cringed at Geordie's wound.

I'm getting sucked in after the shinty game! of all things. Evidently there are a large number of fans who have switched to Team Colum. You should see the comments!
