Took long enough! Seems like that movie's been batted around since before I was born.

Suicide Squad cast revealed:
Will Smith is Deadshot
Tom Hardy is Rick Flagg
Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn
Jai Courtney is Captain Boomerang
Cara Delevingne is Enchantress
Rumor has it that they're trying to get Oprah Winfrey for Amanda Waller, or perhaps Octavia Spencer.

Revived?! I didn't even know it was dead yet. I would have loved to receive that memo.

Re: Upcoming Films
Okay, so I'm really looking forward to Kingsman: The Secret Service (link may open directly to the trailer) which looks like enormous fun, but since I'm the person really liked the trailer for Paddington (even though the movie seems to be great, NO ONE I KNOW liked the trailer) I don't think we can trust my judgement on the trailer. Still, preliminary reviews are very good, and even if it sucks it features Colin Firth in handsome suits. I understand it's opening about the same time as Fifty Shades of Grey. I ask you: which do you think will be sexier, Fifty Shades or Colin Firth in a suit? Yes. Me too. Ticket, please.

I was wondering when that movie was coming out. I felt like I saw the preview in a theater freakin' ages ago, and it looked like so much fun!

Re: Upcoming Films
I will totally be going to see Kingsmen, which is not my usual kind of movie, but the trailer won me over. Â Also, like you, I cannot resist Colin Firth in a suit apparently.
Saw the trailer for The Duff, which is basically She's All That for 2015. Â This is clearly a movie I will end up watching on a plane at some point.

Wow, we saw the trailer for Kingsman halfway through 2014, I think. Possibly earlier. Anyway, it was so long ago that I just assumed I'd completely missed it at the cinemas. Good to know I didn't!

An all-female Ghostbusters gang? That would be awesome!

I love the reboot cast. They're all good ensemble people and knowing that the writer is good and Fieg is directing makes me happy as hell.

Re: Upcoming Films
I don't know how I feel about this. I love the idea of all-female casts, but Ghostbusters is pretty much already a perfect movie. I don't think it needs to be remade, plus if it's not as good as the original (which is likely, even it if it is a funny movie), I wouldn't want it to be used as an excuse not to do female casts in the future.

Re: Upcoming Films
It's not going to be exactly the same and those people who think that are setting themselves up for disappointment. It's not even the same characters. It's a different universe in a way, which I'm down with. Also the whole argument of people being scared of doing more stuff with women (or POC) led if one flops is one of those arguments where I want to go to Hollywood and hit producers with a wet mackrel. No one ever says that Johnny Depp should stop making movies or his career is hurt by Mordecai or the Lone Ranger. Why the hell do women and POCs have to have this higher standard?

Re: Upcoming Films
Frankly, I really dislike the idea of genderswapping an all-male cast. Not because an all-female cast is a bad idea (though yes, it will lend itself to the women-driven-movies fail because women! argument). I really hate the idea that women should be segregated from men in order to be...acceptable? good? appealing?
Maybe they could just write women and men characters as equally interesting and well-developed in a gender integrated movies.

Re: Upcoming Films
Binky, I'm glad you posted this because I am really, really on the fence about the recast. Part of it is my intense loathing of Kristin Wiig and growing dislike of Melissa McCarthy. (I don't know the other two women.) I LOVE the original so much and am just so afraid that it will never live up to the expectations of this.
From your lips to their pens.

Re: Upcoming Films
I like non-SNL, non-overly schticky Kristin Wiig. I thought she was great in Extract and Adventureland, and parts of Bridesmaids. Ditto Melissa McCarthy. Leslie Jones has been great on SNL, and while I like her, I kind of think they don't need Kate McKinnon if they have Kristin Wiig (and I would happily swap out Wiig for McKinnon and add in another POC). I am hoping this isn't a full-on remake, but more of a reboot. Like, "the OG Ghostbusters were so successful, they had to franchise, and this is the story of one of those franchises." Or something. I don't need a complete remake of the first movie; it's pretty much perfect as is.

Re: Upcoming Films
Yes I do not want a remake, but I'd be interested in a continuation.
While i would love gender integrated movies, the fact is there are so MANY male buddy comedies, I also see nothing wrong with predominantly female cast movies. God knows its not like we got an excess of them.

Re: Upcoming Films
That brings up an interesting question -- why is it that all-male stuff like the Expendables is considered normal and nothing unusual, but when there's an all-chick thing, it's that we're segregating ourselves or thrown into the "chick flick" category?
The creators have said it's not a remake, but a reboot of the idea. I like the idea of a franchise, but I suspect they're not going to do that and go in another direction.
As for the cast itself? I'm pretty happy overall, but really, there's so many strong female comedians and comedic actresses I could think of that would be fabulous for this.

Re: Upcoming Films
I'm really happy for Leslie Jones. Its so rare for POC to get this kind of push, especially at age 47. Good for her. She has an intensity I enjoy.
I like all the actresses involved (I found Kristen Wiig got overused on SNL but I have always enjoyed her film work.)
I would have liked more POC in there too. Like hell throw Maya Rudolph in at least, but at the same time I'm also happy that its a movie starring women in their thirties.

I just hope the all-female Ghostbusters help Viggo get over his Carpathian kitten loss. He misses his kitten!
