Justified
Season 3 starts tonight!
I rewatched the second season over the weekend and was once again completely mesmerized by Margo Martindale. She earned that Emmy.

I am almost worried that this season will be a letdown because it will be missing the sublime Margo Martindale. But I am very excited!

I got the first season on Black Friday for 10 bucks, but the second season was still full price. :( I am super excited it's back, but yeah: how will they ever top Margo Martindale?

Re: Justified
Loved it! Loved the end and feeling very good about this season. I'm surprised Raylan and Winona were doing so well, since they seemed on the verge of breaking up last season. My unpopular opinion is I love Winona, barring her whole ridiculous embezzling plot, and Ava annoys me, although maybe not as much as she did. I think my main Ava problem now is how she's a bone of contention between Raylan and Boyd, when I really just want them to continue being weirdly devoted to each other. I particularly hated last season when Boyd reprimanded Raylan for taking liberties with her by talking to her a certain way. I hope tonight's fight really was just for Boyd to get into prison and that after this we can minimize the Ava drama between them.
Fletcher Nix reminded me of the guy from No Country for Old Men. I almost didn't recognize him as Quinn from Dexter.
Most important thing about this episode, Raylan had a vastly superior hat to our villain.

That's who that was, right! I went back and forth all night. "That's Quinn. No, it isn't. Same jaw. No, different guy." Yes, I had a conversation with myself. I hope he isn't dead. He was ridiculously hot in that hat.
I totally loved the episode, too. I loved that Boyd is batshit crazy and threw poor gutshot Raylan through a window on account of breaking a promise (so he could get to the guy he wants to kill, natch, but still. BATSHIT.)
I'm one of the few that loves both Winona and Ava. They're both actually just about as nutty as their respective male partners.

I can't believe it took me until the end of the episode to realize that going to jail was Boyd's plan all along. Look out Dickie!

So few people in this world get a cast-iron frying pan to the face when they truly deserve it. I'm glad we have Ava to fill that void.

I don't hate Winona I just don't get her at all. I don't see their crazy chemistry and I don't get she who she is as a human being or what she believes because her writing and characterization has been all over the map. Whereas, I feel for Ava for the writing and acting has made me understand who she was, what happened when she thought things were going better (with Raylan) and why she chose to get back in with the Crowder family. Winona's personality seems to change and also I don't get her reasons for leaving Raylan for Wayne, staying with Wayne, fucking Raylan, finally leaving Wayne, etc. and that doesn't even get at her stealing the money.
Plus Dewey!!!

I loved the part with Raylen and the tablecloth. I knew that he was somehow going to turn the whole stab you with an icepick on its head, especially since he had read the guy's file, but I wasn't expecting something so stupidly simple. Bravo.

Re: Justified
I really don’t like Winona, but she was okay last night. Her constant whining about Raylan’s job was a bit grating last season. Yes, it’s a tough job, but it’s who he is and asking him to quit really isn’t fair. And on a shallow note, how could you trade a hot piece like Raylan for Gary? But she probably did insist on the tablecloth, and that worked out pretty well. I don’t think Raylan killed Crazy Hot Icepick man, so he will probably show up later for some sexy revenge.
I felt bad that he got a frying pan to the face, but Devil really should listen to Ava. She knows the Crowder family business better than they do. I love Wynn Duffy! He’s got that great creepy/crazy thing going on. And Neal McDonough has got a great evil/crazy thing. Awesome.
And Tim!

That's part of my problem with Winona. I also feel that when they have female characters like Ava and Aunt Helen in season 1 and Loretta and Mags in season 2, the show really hasn't done much with Winona to make her understandable. Especially with the Raylan/Gary mess. The only other female character that is a mystery is Rachel.

Oh lord Limehouse is terrifying.
I like Carla Gugino, but if Rachel's barely-there screentime diminishes even further, I will be displeased.

Apparently, that was the only episode this season that Carla will be appearing in.

Re: Justified
So I watched the whole series in like two weeks and I'm anxiously awaiting new episodes. Mags Bennett was amazing and I can only hope the Dixie Mafia dude and creepy Limehouse can live up to her.
My only request is that I need more of hot, hot Deputy Gutterson. Seriously, I got into the show for Timothy Olyphant but I find Jacob Pitts sooo much more attractive.

So, apparently Raylan was supposed to shoot the guard through the bags of chicken. Timothy Olyphant suggested running the guy over, instead. And doing it twice, for the funny.
I really need Dewey Crowe to not die.

Haha, nice. Running him over (twice!) was just too funny.

I figured that Dewey still had his kidneys when the nurse was talking about how he had four hours or something to live.
The storyline with Winona is annoying me. Make up your mind woman!

Re: Justified
Thoughts on the finale or the season in general?
I know it would be difficult for this season to live up to last, which was really incredible, but I thought all of the season's villains ended up weirdly sidelined. When they took Quarles from menacing with a touch of crazy into full-crazy, I think they lost a lot of what made him interesting. Boyd really didn't accomplish much but manage to kill a member of his team and get another arrested (leaving with a team of 1. his girlfriend and 2. a dude he put into a wheelchair who wants secret revenge), and Limehouse spent 90% of the season just being a butcher like he kept saying he was.
Harlan! A hotbed of really incompetent criminals. I did think the ending with Raylan and Arlo was heartbreaking. Poor Raylan! Come rest your hat by me.

Re: Justified
I don't think this season was as strong as the second season, but it was still really good. The second season was more about the mines and the families that depend on them. There was a lot more heart and sadness. This season was about crazy gangsters trying to control the drugs. Entertaining, but not that deep.
I will miss Quarles just because he was so quippy. I could watch him and Raylan and Wynn just sitting around bitching at each other for hours. And Quarles cackling with glee while yelling "Its a piggy bank!" was awesome. And when he was reaching for his arm and Raylan was pulling it away with a look on his face like "no, this is mine now"? Also awesome.
My heart broke for Raylan over the dealings with his father. He just seemed so resigned. Like he knew it would end up this way. And Winona should have at least given him a hug. I would have.
I would also like a web series or something featuring the misadventures of Tim and Rachel. You know they are out there getting into trouble knowing that since Art is always busy with Raylan, they can get away with pretty much anything.

THE ARM. I guess I should have seen that coming since half of this season took place in a slaughter house but I was totally not expecting that!

Re: Justified
"Shit, it's a piggy bank!" is the line of the season.
I enjoyed it. I liked all the backfiring doublecrosses. Raylan is never, ever gonna get Boyd. I bet we see Daddy Givens again, even if it's causing trouble from within a mental hospital. Poor Raylan, refusing to admit it hurts that his father loves Raylan's mortal enemy like a son. And he's willing to kill his own son for Boyd, if selling Raylan to the Miami gun thugs wasn't enough. Raylan, however, is well on his way to alcoholism.
Wynn Duffy survived, but I guess he's going to prison for killing Gary. He's fun. Evil. And fun. Much like Boyd. I saw an interview with Walton Goggings and it was so weird to see him not with the psychotic gleam in his eye.
I love Adam Arkin and hope he reappears next season. And that there's more Tim and Rachel next season. Especially Tim. Because yum.

Re: Justified
Absolutely. Much more Tim please. J'adore.
I liked this season. I like that they went in an entirely different direction from last season, and I thought Quarles was a great villain, even in full-on crazy mode. I really thought he was going to kill that poor kid, if just by accident.
I can't stand Winona...just hug that man already. He's shredded inside. How could she not see that? Or she saw it and didn't care enough to reach out to him. Idiot.
And Boyd and Ava...it's just weird to me how much I root for those crazy kids. I am interested to see how the Johnny as betrayer plays out as I did not see that coming.

Re: Justified
I liked this season too. Last year was phenomenal, but I liked this year's focus on Harlan County's criminal underworld and all its factions in all their stupid scheming glory. I thought Quarles was a great villain because he was scary crazy *and* smart so you never knew what the hell was going on with him. I think that chopped arm bit was my favorite thing ever on this show.
I've loved Walton Goggins forever so I'm glad that Boyd escaped yet again. At face value it was kind of a cheap way to do it, but having Arlo take the fall after trying to kill his own son for Boyd gave it emotional weight.
I actually like Winona and get why despite having a husband as sexy as Raylan that she's chosen to be apart from him. Raylan's a LOT of work and most of that work is one-sided, so I can understand not wanting everything to be so...SO all the time. And really, there's just no hugging Raylan because you just know it wouldn't stop with a hug and then she's right back where she really doesn't want or need to be. Now, as tv boyfriends go--once a week for a quick hour and no repercussions? He is damn near PERFECT. Tim Olyphant can wear a henley like nobody's business.
