Rock of Ages
Worth it to see Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand duet "Can't Fight This Feeling," if for nothing else. Really, it's the only believable romantic pairing in the entire film.

I loved the musical so was sad that I didn't think the movie was that great, but I though Tom Cruise was fantastic. Hes really rocking these scene stealing comic parts.

I was surprised by how well he sang. I remember him not being that great in Top Gun but maybe auto-tune has made him a lot better. He does rock out these little parts and it kind of makes me wish he'd discovered this character actor a long time ago.

Saw it at a drive in last night with a double feature of Snow White & the Huntsman. RoA at least was fun and trying to have fun with itself. It's not a great movie by any stretch, but it's definitely fun to see people like Cruise, Zeta-Jones, Baldwin, and Brand really put it all out with the songs. It's too bad that the leads, while attractive, can't really hold much of a candle to them.

I thought it was silly and funny. I kept cracking up when I realized which songs they were going to sing at certain parts. But the story was a little uneven. Characters just disappeared, storylines were dropped. I felt like there was a whole subplot involving Mary J. Blige and her ex that they tried to cut out but didn't do a good enough job. Tom Cruise looked like he was having a blast though. He was strangely appealing as Stacee Jaxx.
Mainly I came out wanting to hear a whole bunch of 80s music.

Tom Cruise was so worth the price of admission. As was Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand duetting on "I Can't Fight This Feeling". Everything else? So not good.
But Tom Cruise. God dammit. I can't help it. I love that man. Mock me all you want. I am totally gay for him.

I thought it was wildly uneven in tone. Like they couldn't decide whether they were going for camp or earnestness. I laughed a lot but I'm not sure it was at stuff that was meant to be funny. Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin were the best things in this (and maybe the costuming) and Tom Cruise easily the worst. I was prepared to buy him as a (teeny-tiny) rock god, but I just didn't feel like he carried it off. I expected him to bring more believable swagger to the part.

Mys sister and I didn't really like it either. I agree that the tone was too uneven. They couldn't decide if they wanted to make a parody or not and they went for the easy and obvious with the humor. It was also about 15 minutes longer than it needed to be with way way too many songs. The biggest problem was that it wanted to be about being true to yourself and the wonderful fighting spirit that is rock and roll but the songs - while enduring and incredibly likeable - aren't actually about anything. They were meant to be successful, get radio play, and sell records.
I said afterwards that the most true to the era thing about the film is that the breakout star was Tom Cruise. He was incredibly likeable and was the only one who had charisma. His personal life my be weired but there's a reason that man's a movie star.

I got a kick out of it.
Let's be honest, this is not a GOOD movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it is like Mamma Mia in its way.
Lots of singing, little to no plot, and, honestly, no singing Pierce Brosnan.
Although, I do agree that the leads were dull. Everyone was more interesting than them. Well, with the possible exception of Malin Ackerman.

I don't know. I even found Malin Ackerman fun in this if only for her enthusiasm during I Wanna Know What Love Is.
