30 Rock
It's back.
I really couldn't take this episode in because the elephant in the room was Kim Jong Il's death and I'm am dying to see Margaret Cho get a good death scene for the show.

Re: 30 Rock
They were starting to lose me last season, but "go jump back up your mother," from JENNA no less, made me laugh harder than anything on this show has in at least a season and a half. So I'm back in for at least a little while.
I'm so so tired of Kenneth, though.

Yes... But I still really wanted his Rapture outfit. As my friend Tweeted to me last night, I have my Bay to Breakers costume for this year.
"Oh no. So much grapevining," pretty much slayed me.
Otherwise, a pretty meh offering. Was Tina Fey pregnant during the filming of this? I couldn't tell with the initial dickie viewing where we see her in a bra, but then they put her in suuuper baggy sweatshirts and she was barely in the episode. It was weird.

Re: 30 Rock
It was an okay episode. I really only laughed at the parts with Jenna though. I am curious to see who the dude at the end is. Is it wrong that I'm kind of hoping it is Dennis Duffy? I just enjoy him so much.
I must have missed something because I totally didn't understand the dance thing - Liz is a cheerleader for a sports team and so gets drugs beforehand?
Also, like the GFY Girls said, what is up with Alec Baldwin's hair??? It looked like pomade is no longer in the show budget.

My theory is the Baldwin Brothers depleated the world's supply of brill cream. A chilling warning for fossil fuels.
Agreed on Kenneth, I don't know why they insist on making him or Jack McBrayer a lead in the series. He works best as a supporting character and the oddball of Tracey's entourage.

Exactly! We've been watching the re-runs on Comedy Central, and right around the time they started shoving Kenneth down our throats was right around the time the show started being less than awesome. The Dude wrote:Agreed on Kenneth, I don't know why they insist on making him of Jack McBrayer a lead in the series. I also hope it's Dennis. Or Josh. Because that would be hilarious, especially if she made him do the worm again.

My favorite line was when Jenna said being nice was "McEnroe's thing".

Conversley I don't know why they outright neglect the 3rd member of TGS's cast. I loved Josh and he outrigght dissapeared and it looks like they're losing interest in Danny now.

At the end of last night's episode, I turned to my husband and said, "So Tracy had a crayon in his brain?"
I kind of want to find Tina Fey and dance around her singing Simpsons did it! Simpsons did it!

Re: 30 Rock
So the live episode happened and I thought that with the exception of Jenna, Paul, and Hazel, the rest of it was excellent and much better than last year's. McCartney was the huge surprise. Loved Donald Glover's Tracy, Hamm and Baldwin's 60s newscasters not being able to comprehend a woman reporter "Is your father or a policeman there?" but I really loved Hamm and Tracy's Amos and Andy show. It was the best kind of squirmy hilarious.
PS - And Nazi doctor Spaceman! Amy as little Liz. Fallon as little Jack. They had a connection even then.

Re: 30 Rock
Thank goodness we got Paul McCartney instead of Kim Kardashian.
I actually clapped (alone in my bedroom) when Amy Poehler showed up.
I love Will Forte but I'm kind of over the Paul/Jenna thing. It's just too much for me...even for this show.

I watched both on Hulu. While the West Coast didn't get Paul McCartney (and had to settle for Kim Kardashian), we did get Brian Williams getting to play either Brinkley or Huntley in the newsbreak. The only thing funnier than a stodgy anchor going off on a sexist rant is the decidedly non-stodgy Brian Williams doing so.

I had to pause the show when Armisen popped up behind Fallon. That and the Amos and Andy bit were hysterical.

I just like Hamm's SNL related stuff because he clearly is having so much fun with it.

I'm over it, too, but I did laugh my ass off at Zou Bisou Bisou. And I wish I'd been there when they told Jon Hamm they were going to do it, heh.bloomtoperish wrote:I love Will Forte but I'm kind of over the Paul/Jenna thing. It's just too much for me...even for this show.

Re: 30 Rock
HAHA, so did I. I have a lot of residual love for Forte, but have never been able to stand Jane Krakowski, so the storyline is pretty much a wash for me.mokey75 wrote:I'm over it, too, but I did laugh my ass off at Zou Bisou Bisou. But overall this was HYSTERICAL. Jon Hamm is one of my favorite things to happen to comedy in recent years. Not something I would have imagined I'd be saying. I thought the way they shot the framing scenes in the dressing room so that the needed actors could get ready for the next flashback scene was really deftly done -- at first I thought the Honeymooners thing was pre-taped, because we'd just seen Jack and Liz, but I rewound and first there had been the cut to Jenna/Hazel, then we never saw them after that.
I can't even list everything that was funny. All the past-TV bits were hilarious, though the Tracy/Jon Hamm one was my favorite. Zippity doo goo! But they were all funny. "We touched penises!" "Is your father or a policeman nearby?"
The most unfortunate thing about the McCartney/Kardashian swap though was that the West Coast ending joke was WEAK. The McCartney one ("Who am I?" "...You're my boyfriend! And we were just about to go call some of my old high-school friends") was hilarious, but the Kardashian one was lame and the timing was weird and it just sort of petered out the end. KARDASHIANS RUIN EVERYTHING.
Now I have Zou Bisou Bisou in my head AGAIN. Curses!

The funniest part of that bit for me was Tracy staring down Hamm right before he screamed "Banjo!" I like how the woman who played Sue didn't even try to hide how hard she was laughing.

Re: 30 Rock
"No, Ryan Lochte!" and the shoutouts to Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur (his twitter handle is Ken Tremendous), plus "Jack...Ryan," all amused me. Plus, happy contented Liz.

Re: 30 Rock
That was such a funny episode. Everything about it worked so well. The whole plotline of Tracy thinking the monkeys are funnier than women echoed Tina Fey being asked constantly about whether women are funny so I'm glad she tried to show in some way why it is pointless.

Re: 30 Rock
I just loved that whole joke. His nom de plume when he was part of the website Fire Joe Morgan was Ken Tremendous and his twitter profile says that "I am a pension fund monitor for Fremulon Insurance," so the email address killed me. I DID sort of hold out hope that he would appear, but I guess that P&R doesn't film in NYC.Mike Schur (his twitter handle is Ken Tremendous)

Ryan Lochte as a sex idiot was the most perfect casting there has ever been.

Re: 30 Rock
I assume this will be the series goodbye to Dean Winters. "Megan Duffy; hopefully not related." Flyod I'm meh on, but I guess it's too late for Matt Damon and Jon Hamm to come back now.
