Re: Celebrities and the Law
That is just so awful and bizarre I hope it's not true. There's just too much cold-heartedness and evil on both sides in that story.

As this is a man who released a book entitled If I Did It which was all about how he DIDN'T (seriously guys, normal innocent mourning men who want to find the real killers totally write books like this) kill his wife, but if he did this is how he would do it, I am totally believing this.

There are serial killer groupies and murder "fans" who collect memorabilia from famous crime scenes, so no, this does not surprise me.

Assuming it's true, just for the sake of argument, why would you even hang on to it? If it were me, I'd disappear it quicksmart.

And that is what would make me skeptical as a buyer, had I the resources and inclination to collect such things.

I don't know -- I've always suspected OJ might be an actual sociopath. That is, he seems pretty pleased with himself for getting away with it rather than relieved at how lucky he was.
Like Kiran said, he wrote a book called "If I Did It." I don't think he thinks he needs to be careful. It's the Enquirer, so I take it with salt, but I don't have any trouble believing it could be true.

I have such a low opinion of OJ that I can imagine him trying to make a deal whether the knife exists or not.

I can't believe how long it's been since Britney's meltdown, but this article still makes me sad. That guy is such a creep.

That whole Savile case just gives me the willies. It's amazing what a little money and fame will buy you. (See also, Roman Polanski.)

I know this is just a case of hindsight being 20/20 since I never heard of him before this, but seriously, every pic I see of Jimmy Savile makes me wonder how people could NOT think there was something seriously wrong with this guy. At best all those pictures say 'skeeve' and at worst he has legit Manson lamps.

I have thought the same thing -- Savile seems like such an obvious creeper that I don't understand how he wasn't stopped before he died.

Re: Celebrities and the Law
From what I've heard people looked the other way because of the amount of charitable donations he gave. To the point of I think one report said some medical administrators look the other way while he preyed on their patients.

Re: Celebrities and the Law
Isn't that the same story of how Jerry Sandusky got away with his actions? His organization "The Second Mile" was used to find victims, but there were lots of other kids who were helped and not raped. So, people looked the other way. Well, the whole college football thing too. But it has the same undertones.

Re: Celebrities and the Law
A lot of abusers use the caring professions, one, because of ease of access to victims, and two, so victims won't be believed (why would a priest/charity worker do such an evil thing) and also so people will second-guess themselves and deny their own instincts. One of the evilest, cleverest bullies I ever had the misfortune to encounter worked with sick people, which is how I had anything to do with him, and because of his job knew exactly how to make me suffer and how to make it look like I was unbalanced if I complained. I was traumatised for years, and this was just bullying and I was an adult, albeit a vulnerable one. For a long time I never thought Jimmy Savile looked evil simply because of his reputation, but obviously now I see it.

Re: Celebrities and the Law
It's a great example of how creepers will groom communities or get involved in positive environments. It's a terrifying thing because there are many many good people who help vulnerable people and yet there are these scary people who appear just like us in some ways, who use it as a means to harm others. Everyone likes to think they can identify the bogeyman in their midst and it is alarming when you realize that you can't.
I think of a priest I knew who was this charismatic and wonderful figure when I was growing up. He was empathetic, friendly, and just a kind kind man. Then he was suddenly removed to another parish and people were surprised and upset. It was only years later we found out he had a thing for young teenaged girls and it had been going on for decades. It was heart-breaking for the victims and for us because we had no idea. And in some ways you feel complicit because you feel like you should have seen the signs and done something.

Sam Worthington arrested for being drunk and an asshole in a bar, but I also assume a little bit of that pepper spray was for his total inability to do an American accent.

Clearly my priorities are in order since I appear to be most concerned that hes not hot anymore.

Re: Celebrities and the Law
I miss Sam Worthington back when he was just famous in Australia and made films like Somersault and that batshit version of Macbeth he did. And was still hot. Now he makes awful movies (Well the Debt was good and Avatar was fun) but it just embarasses me that I used to tell people he was hot and could act when he does Man on a Ledge and looks like a rough trade John Travolta.

Worthington looks like he's morphing into Walter White.

Ariel Winter of Modern Family removed from her mother's custody because of physical and emotional abuse. Custody given to her sister, who played Sarah Roberts on One Life To Live, who was also removed from their mother's care because of similiar allegations when she was a teenager.
