Re: Stars I Like
Ugh, he was so cute on Fallon, showing off his embarrassing school photos and psyching himself up (and also chastising himself) while playing beer pong!
bloomtoperish, you've killed me dead with that gif. Truly, you have.

Huh. Turns out he went to the same high school as my family friend AND that his younger brother would have been in said friend's graduating class. *scurries off to get dirt*

Re: Stars I Like
His brother Scott Evans is a total cutie and was on OLTL in their big really good gay storyline KISH that was then scuttled and he/his co-star in the pairing were fired unceremoniously.
Re: Stars I Like
Oh, I'd heard about that OLTL kerfuffle but had no idea it was Chris's bro involved!

Re: Stars I Like
I work with chefs every day. Chefs at my company, guest chefs. Sometimes I kind of hate everyone in the profession.
Douglas Keane is the chef at Cyrus in Sonoma County, California, which holds two Michelin stars (three is the max; chefs will brag until the end of time if they've ever worked at a place that held even one, even if they weren't the head chef). He's a regular local guy who does regular local guy stuff, as opposed to some of the big chefs in the Sonoma/Napa area, many of whom are huge douches. OMG so huge.
One of the things he does is volunteer at the local animal shelter. And he bonded with one of the dogs he helped there, and applied to adopt it with the idea of rehabilitating it (after months in a scary shelter, the dog was stressed out) and either rehoming it or keeping it himself. In his spare time (?) he became certified as a dog trainer, so that would help with the process.
Well, the shelter decided that although the dog was never aggressive, it was a possible danger, so they rejected Doug's adoption application and decided to euthanize the dog.
So Doug sued the shelter to stop them, and the shelter has agreed to let Doug rehabilitate the dog, who never did do anything to anyone except lose his family.
So much love.

Re: Stars I Like
Awww, indeed!
BTW, my Ellie, the pretty girl currently appearing in the "Pets" thread, was deemed "unadoptable" by the shelter where she was dumped after her people got a divorce. The same Ellie who has logged dozens of appearances as an ambassador dog for our rescue group, and wiggles herself into a circle at the prospect of getting petted by anyone. Her crime? She was "too shy." Fortunately, one of our volunteers works there and saved her for me.

Yay, Ellie!
It's terrifying how easily the label "unadoptable" is slapped on a dog.

Re: Stars I Like
Oh, Robert Downey Jr., be more adorable, why don't you:
Just before we started rolling, I also took the time to thank Downey for a kindness he did for my oldest son, Toshi, a few years ago. He didn't realize Toshi was my son, and I wasn't present when it happened, but it was backstage at Comic-Con, where my wife was sitting with Toshi when the "Iron Man 2" panel ended in Hall H. As Downey was coming off the stage, Toshi was sitting in a chair near him and yelled, "Hey, Tony!"
Downey walked over to this random cheeky four-year-old and sat down, introducing himself in character. He talked to Toshi about how it was to operate the armor, work with Captain America, and fight bad guys. For four or five minutes, Downey stayed in character until finally he explained that there was an urgent matter that needed his attention, and he excused himself. To this day, Toshi is absolutely sure that he met Tony Stark, and that he got to discuss being Iron Man with him. I told Downey how much that simple act meant to the imaginary life of this little boy, and I thanked him.

Wow. That's just amazing! And that conversation probably made that kid's year.

I have no rational reason for it but I really, really love Emma Stone. She just seems so aweseome and is such a fantastic actress. She seems like someone who I would hang out with and shoot the shit.

Concrete evidence that Jason Segel is awesome.
I'm not a huge fan of this "making a YouTube video to ask celebrities out on dates" trend, but at least this girl put some time and effort into hers.

And "Jason Segel, you are the Ring to my Smeagol" is an AWESOME line.

I don't like that trend either, at all, but I like this one because it seems clear that she didn't really expect to get anything from it, and him taking her up on it was a complete surprise. For me it doesn't have the same creepy subtext of the Kunis/Timberlake stuff.

Re: Stars I Like
Even the Kunis one I didn't find creepy. I found everyone else making a big deal out of it creepy, but I thought he was just making a fun video and didn't expect her to see it. Its the videos that came out of it I found weird.

Re: Stars I Like
It wasn't so much the original video asking her that I found creepy as Timerlake's attitude about it, and the minor blog explosion of people hinting that Mila Kunis would be a bitch if she said no. And I'm like, "What if she doesn't want to do it?"

I love Emma Stone as well. I never hear her complaining about being an actress (like Kristen Stewart) or acting like an ungrateful asshole ( Rooney Mara!). Plus I thought she was good in 'The Help'.

I know that a good chunk of this was publicity (or at least I suspect that didn't hurt in the calculations), but I have to reluctantly give credit to Justin Bieber for spending Valentine's day with a six year old cancer patient who calls herself "Mrs. Bieber". Dammit, don't pull a Timberlake and make me like you despite everything!

Well, I must admit that the whole thing is just really, ridiculously adorable. (And props to the Globe for actually spending half the story talking about the girl's type of cancer, since her mother mentioned that they wanted to raise its profile to improve treatment.)
Re: Stars I Like
I am friendly with a family who is friendly with this little girl (they also have a child in the family who had cancer but who thankfully seems to be in remission at the moment), and they are excited that it's getting so much attention.Miss Moneypenny wrote:Well, I must admit that the whole thing is just really, ridiculously adorable. I don't care one way or the other for Justin Bieber, but that was a really cool thing for him to do on Valentine's Day.
