Re: Film Trailers
The Iceman, based on Richard Kuklinski, who is said to have killed more than 100 people. Also starring Chris Evans looking very much NOT like Chris Evans. I'm so there.

Ooh I almost forgot about that Hansel and Gretel movie! I saw a trailer for it ages ago, I guess it's been in the can. I hope it's just as much fun as it looks.
Re: The Iceman, Michael Shannon has just been scaring the crap out of me lately. Definitely checking out that movie.

Re: Film Trailers
I remember seeing biographies on that guy on A&E and it was enough to just give you shivers. "Iceman" doesn't even begin to cover it. Michael Shannon was a great choice for that role (in one or two shots he also looks a lot like Ray Liotta).
And good on Chris for getting that part. I'm sure it's hard for him to be considered for anything that isn't the shirtless snarky wiseass he usually gets (see also: Ryan Reynolds).

Re: Film Trailers
Poor Ray Liotta. All those years he's been plugging away, doing the journeyman acting thing where he'll do pretty much any job if the price is right and he'll do it well. And he has to be the guy that breaks the "Academy Award Nominee" streak they have going over everyone's names.
And Michael Shannon seems well suited to the part. Which is to say, I'm starting to wonder if he can play anything else. And that kinda makes me worried about how he's playing General Zod.

That looks like a lot of fun. It reminds me of The Brothers Grimm, which was also a lot of fun. They both even have Peter Stormare. It will definitely be terrible, but I'm there.Raksha wrote:Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Well, that looks delightfully awful! Add that to my little Jeremy Renner Situation and I kind of can't wait to see this.

Hyde Park on Hudson, starring Bill Murray as FDR. It actually looks pretty good!

It's been recast, which makes this look like even more of an abortion.

Shia the Beef aside, I am really looking forward to Lawless. Finally saw a trailer for it in front of the Raiders of the Lost Ark IMAX experience and it looks pretty sweet.

There seems to be this trend of "Vampire Hunters, only with witches" trend going on right now. Which I'm not sure is a good thing, that was the era of people committing real hate crimes against an imaginary minority.

I saw Lawless and Shia the Beef is actually excellent in it, though its totally Tom Hardy's film. Hes a crazy little alcoholic weirdo but he can act.
I think Michael Shannon excels at crazy but hes got good range.

I hope Lincoln is less schmaltzy than that trailer is selling it as.
Park Chan Wook's Stoker looks amazingly stark and creepy. Bonus points for us Prison Break fans, Wentworth Miller wrote the screenplay.

Me too. There are parts of it that feel like a trailer that came out of a Christopher Guest movie about a group of people making a movie about Lincoln. Also, Tommy Lee Jones's wig needs its own billing.
I am still excited to see it, though. I know DDL is getting criticized for his Lincoln voice already, but I'm glad he didn't go for deep baritone, since there are many accounts of Lincoln having a higher-pitched voice than your typical orator.

I totally agree about the Lincoln trailer. When I saw it, my first thought was, "This seems like a Funny or Die video." I still can't watch it without laughing.

Re: Film Trailers
I wouldn't go that far, but the trailer does make it seem like it's much more sentimental than it should be. And it is Spielberg we're talking about. Let's hope the trailer is misleading.
Regardless, I feel sorry for whatever Hollywood actors hoped for 2012 to be their Oscar year.

Gambit. Colin Firth in a caper movie, with Alan Rickman being ridiculous? Yes please Coen brothers, I would like some.

For a second, I thought you meant Gambit of the X-Men, and I was all, "Colin Firth?! Why and how and when did that happen?!"

World War Z
I am so very, very disappointed with this trailer. Like, it makes me angry. And I usually don't allow myself to get so worked up. But dammit - World War Z was one of the most intriguing entries in the zombie apocalypse genre because of its style (oral history interviews after the war) and this movie has completely abandoned that. And on top of it, it doesn't seem to have captured any of the actual story elements from the novel. Certainly the flesh-wave, fast-style zombies is a major - and unwelcome - change; the climax of the book, when the humans finally get their shit together and start taking things back, hinges on the zombies being an implacable, unstopping wall - but a slow, shambling one. Maybe that's not cinematic, but making them so fast moving and capable of "complex" action like building a ramp with their own bodies just makes them *too* powerful for the way humanity comes back in the book to make any sense.
At any rate, if I try to distance myself, I can say that this does look interesting as just another zombie apocalypse story. But it's not World War Z, and putting that title on this movie makes me kind of hate everything about it.

Trailer for Mortal Instruments doesn't look very good...although it might still be pretty enough for me to rent it. I did just watch Red Riding Hood for that exact reason, so my standards are low.

I can't believe Cassie Clare has a real movie out. Despite the rampant plagiarism.

AIDAN TURNER, baby. I will watch it in the theatre for him (and maybe Robert Sheehan) and feel not one iota of shame. As far as I'm concerned all supernatural-stuff-aimed-at-people-half-my-age look about the same anyway, so I won't even be able to say whether it's a good or bad example of its genre. And I care not a fig!

Oh no, Aiden Turner is in that? Crap, now I have to see it. I don't know what it is about actors from Being Human. I'll watch Lenora Crichlow in anything too.
