Apparently no one outside of his family/closest friends knew he had cancer.

Yeah that was shocking.

And I'd just heard on the radio the other day the djs talking about his new album, and that it's the strongest thing he's done in years.

The aliens just took him back home.

This one truly hurts. As a big fan of alternative music, both classical and contemporary, it's hard to overstate Bowie's influence. During a time when most alternative rock was old-school punk, Bowie was the pioneer for much of what became the New Wave and alternative sounds of the 80's and beyond. He influenced virtually everyone from those time periods.

Plus the guy was the textbook definition of "cool."

Just the night before I watched Velvet Goldmine, which has Jonathan Rhys Meyers playing a very Bowie-like character.

The New York Times ran a very ill-timed piece on Bowie today that starts out "It's a good time to be David Bowie".  Eek!

What in the actual fuck is happening this week?! Bowie and Rickman both die of cancer at age 69?! Seriously?!

He will always be my favorite part of Galaxy Quest.

I'll always remember the SNL skit where Anna Gastheyer reffered to him as "My Father... er Husband".

I want a protective cordon set up around Ringo, Paul, and Bruce among many others.

I think about McCartney dying sometimes and get pretty sad. I really hope that's a long time away.
