Technical Issues and Bugs

Oh good, this is happening to other people too, that's exactly what I came here to say.

My new posts button seems to be working now.

Okay I have no idea how it righted itself (I was trying and failing), but after clearing cookies it's now working for me again. If it's still a problem we'll keep at it.

Unless one of the mods changed something, I haven't touched this since last night. It's not my doing, guys. The forum itself seems to be a little on-the-blink.

It's still wonky for me. I clicked the New Posts button and it took me to the second-to-last page.

Okay, for the sake of argument let's assume last night's changes were the cause of the issue and debug accordingly. I'm going to try an experiment to double-check.

Here's the experiment:
1) I'll undo all the changes (they're easily reversible) and ask for comment on whether everyone, not just some people, have the problem fixed. If it fixes the problem then:
2) I'll systematically add the changes back one by one, soliciting comment after each step. Sooner or later we'll find the line of code responsible.
3) If step 1 does not fix the problem then we'll figure it really IS just the board.

ETA: I've just temporarily reversed the changes (step 1 above).

That sounds reasonable. I get what you're saying about how you don't see how what you did could be responsible but I first noticed it while you were messing with things last night. (No title at all on the treads! That made reading really interesting.) I've deleted the cookies and logged out and still not working.

ETA: I'm just waiting patiently for someone to post something new so I can see if it's working now!

Second edit: After the posting it jumps directly back to what I just posted again instead of jumping to the top of the thread.

It now works perfectly for me.

Going to leave it off for a while (2 hours or so) and please tell me if it's fixed for real or just worked once or twice. I noticed that even last night some people were having it work sometimes but not at others.

I think the link style reverted too...

That's okay, this is a test. I commented out everything by accident but it doesn't matter for this. But did the other bug vanish?

I'm going to assume that was it and start adding things back now, one by one.

ETA: I added back the link styling, and shifted the buttons to the right again. I left the titles in place. Please mention if the bug returns.

If it doesn't, I'll see if I can make the titles vanish by another method.

Okay, going to try to make the titles vanish by a different method now.

ETA: Done. Now hopefully there should not be a bug because what I really did was set the font to 0 points and the visibility to hidden.

Yay, I made the titles disappear! I think I should wait a bit on sawing people in half, though. I might put them back together with the two parts facing opposite ways...

Removing image uploading tools (with some regrets) because images are vectors for viruses, and they also potentially make us liable for various kinds of copyright infringement. So declareth the mods going all the way back to SF1. Images will probably return on April 1st.

Please tell me if I've inadvertently brought on the snarkopalypse, as usual.

The only thing about the post headers now is that the poster's name is included along with the time of post. That's redundant with the poster's name on the left side, but it's an oddment I can live with. I like having the time of post in the header.

I am intermittently seeing a "forum maintenance" message when I try to load SF (this forum). Not my doing, not to my liking, and I'm not sure what's up with it. Anyone else seeing this?
