The Avengers
Here's the trailer to get the thread re-started. I have been showing all the pertinent movies (Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America--don't know if we'll watch The Incredible Hulk yet) to my mother in preparation for The Avengers. She loves movies like this but doesn't get to go to many. Last night we finished Captain America and she loved it, except for Peggy Carter (can't say I disagreed with her). Mum got all upset when Bucky died and turned to me and made me tell her right then if Bucky came back to life in the comics. I hadn't seen the movie since it was in theatres so it was fun to watch it again, and catch some things I didn't the first time around. I really do like Cap a lot and I think it's a shame that so many of my friends refuse to watch the movie, simply because of the name. No matter how many times I say it's not a Michael-Bay-Roland-Emmerich-style patriotic movie, nobody listens. Sigh. If they want to miss out on a compassionate, noble, kickass superhero, their loss.

I think Peggy and her relationship with Steve, bot before and after he transformed, were one of the best things about the movie. She was more than just a love interest and actually had a vital role as part of Cap's team.

DOES HE? I was really sad that he died. I enjoyed the movie so much that Captain America instantly became my number one all time favorite Avenger. This trailer and the end of Captain America movie has made me so impatient for this movie to come out.

Re: The Avengers
He does, a few times. At one point he comes back as some brainwashed Soviet counterpart to Cap called the Winter Soldier.
When Steve was assassinated (or fake assassinated - it's confusing) a few years back while being taken to court following the big Civil War brou-ha-ha Bucky became Captain America. Then he died again in the latest crossover, Fear Itself. As did Thor. So... yeah.

Re: The Avengers
Due to cross-pollination, might it be possible to re-name this thread "Marvel Studios Movies" or some such? I don't really want to create a new thread just to talk about Thor, but I wanted to post this -
Patty Jenkins out as director of "Thor 2".
I was really caught off guard by how much I loved Thor, so the notion that the sequel has already milled through two directors is distressing. I just have to remind myself that Matthew Vaughan ping ponged around the first for a while before Branagh stepped up and hope that Kevin Feige finds someone with the same passion (and maybe even love of dutch angles).

Re: The Avengers
My favourite part of the Super Bowl? A new Avengers commercial! I love seeing more of Captain America in costume; it seems like it's only been shown briefly in previous clips. That closing line between Loki and Tony is fantastic.

I have watched that trailer about 20 times (in an attempt to mute my sadness re: The Patriots) and Black Widow's teeny, tiny gun makes me laugh every time. Finally seeing the Hulk smashing something also makes me very happy.
Re: The Avengers
Seriously! Gamma-irradiated monster! Technodeity with the power of lightning! The paragon of human perfection! A man in a really cool suit of armor! A... guy with a splodey arrow! And... a lady with a peashooter.

Re: The Avengers
Something on Black Widow's wrists flashes blue in the scene with the Avengers back to back: does she have something there to augment the peashooter? Black Widow and Hawkeye are the two I know the least about from the comics.

She does have guns/darts in the wristlets, I believe.

I think in the books, she has some sort of stun ray or something in the bracelets that is called "The Widow's Bite."

Re: The Avengers
You always want a Hawkeye-type on your team, for the inevitable moment when Dr. Horrificus (or whoever) blasts the team with his Nega-Nullifying ray and is all, "Now I have eliminated your powers! You are defenseless!" Then Hawkeye can be all, "Pff. Eat some arrows."
Re: The Avengers
Spoilery scans of the novelization. Not much more spoilery than the trailers, honestly. Mostly they just make me want it to be May already.
Re: The Avengers
I am particularly fond of that image of Loki, imprisoned in the Cake Stand of Punishment.
Seriously, doesn't it look like a cake stand??

If the Cake Boss is trapped inside there with him, the punishment seems excessively cruel.

I would also watch that! It would be everything I could ever want out of life.

PLUS his tranq darts can apparently take down the Hulk?
You guys, I am SO EXCITED for this movie. SO EXCITED, in fact, that I am TAKING OFF A DAY OF WORK and going to the Ultimate Marvel Movie Marathon on May 3 which ends in the midnight showing of The Avengers after ALL FIVE other related movies. (I am crazy). What makes it better is that my comic book artist friend is coming to town to visit, so I have someone JUST AS CRAZY to go with me. In fact, that's WHY he's coming that particular weekend (we were in visit planning mode when I found out about the marathon). We are so excited!!
Also next week I'll be getting preview samples of the Avengers colognes and perfume to review. WHEE.

Re: The Avengers
So the movie opens everywhere else in the world on/around April 26 and in the US on May 4. I am debating avoiding spoilers or just spoiling myself rotten. On the one hand, I really enjoy going into movies unspoiled. On the other hand, if Joss is going to rip my heart out again, I would kind of like to know ahead of time.
Meanwhile, there are preview showings in Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Houston and Miami on April 14, and then the 5 cities that have the most FB likes of the Avengers page get additional early showings (I think between MIT, Harvard, and Chris Evans' family, Boston is guaranteed one of those). So I guess I'll actually have to decide my spoiler policy by then.

Re: The Avengers
I'd sort of cooled off on this recently, but seeing the trailer before THG has me completely psyched for it again. The shot of Hulk catching Iron Man mid-air was what really got me.
