Re: The Works of V.C. Andrews
That's a really brilliant article, and very accurate. I cannot even TELL you how many times I reread these books between the ages of 12-14 (at the time, it was the Dollanganger, Heaven, and Dawn series, plus MSA; I gave up after the Ruby series but I owned them all). There really is nothing quite like them out there, and there is a LOT lurking below the trashy, potboilery surface issues.
Oh my God. My Sweet Audrina would make a PERFECT season of American Horror Story.
ETA: Haha, poor Kiernan Shipka. Someone get that girl a comedy, for God's sake.

Re: The Works of V.C. Andrews
I thought the points she made about female anger were really interesting, how generally boys' anger is portrayed as manifesting in violence, and girls' as mean girling and self harm, but that Cathy was an unapologetic cauldron of revenge lust. Is she really similar to Cathy in Wuthering Heights? Ugh, hated Cathy in WH, but I could see how she would be more sympathetic in the VC Andrews' books, because of her totally messed up family.
I was most fascinated with the very little the article had on VC Andrews' own life.
Also, Kiernan Shipka had a guest stint as herself in Don't Trust the B-- in Apt 23. She was fine, but James Van Der Beek was hilarious.

I can see the similarities because both have very self-centered motivations for their actions and have unhealthy/obsessive relationships. Is she really similar to Cathy in Wuthering Heights? Oh man, I am so much more interested in this than in the FiTA movie. Hope they can get a decent cast and that they focus more on the end of the book than the beginning!

Paul was seriously the creepiest, so I'd be happy with the movie passing that part over.

I'm embarrassed by how much I want to read that.
