Re: Pinterest
As far as I can tell, no. That seems to go for original content too. I pin things I've created on polyvore and I see who has repinned it, but not who has repinned it from those repins.
Thanks for all the follows, everyone! I am slowly trying to go through and re-follow everyone but it is likely I've missed someone!

Thanks, guys. That was my plan, but now I'm totally distracted by Twitter. Too. Much. Content. On. Internet.
I can't figure out how to Pin on iPhone.

Re: Pinterest
So I got this email from Pinterest today:
So, the pin in question was a handmade card that said "I love you like a back alley hooker loves crack." A little crass, I know, but it amused me. I don't know where they're getting nudity from. And I'm super annoyed by their whole "We hate censorship so please stop pinning stuff like that, tee hee" spiel. I responded to the email asking them to show me where the nudity was.
ETA: I just got an email back from Pinterest apologizing for the deletion. They said someone did flag it for being "pornographic," but it did not violate Pinterest's TOS and it was deleted accidentally. I have noticed recently that there seem to be a lot more people complaining about some of the riskier pins on the site being inappropriate. I hope Pinterest figures out how to deal with this rather than just deleting first and asking questions later.
Hi [Unlucky Bear],
We had to remove your pin "For @[Best Friend] " from your board "The Internets" because it was not allowed according to our Terms of Service. We don't like the idea of censoring content, but until we have a better filtering system, we expect all users to adhere to our "no nudity" policy:
Photographic images that contain full-frontal nudity or fully exposed breasts/buttocks are not allowed on Pinterest. This does not apply to illustrations, paintings, or sculptures.
So you have it, the original source of the removed image was: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_zRX5RDfH_vk/TUoc7boedOI/AAAAAAAAKGE/WqO6Igt8fjg/s1600/hooker.jpg
Could you please delete any additional pins containing this sort of content and refrain from pinning or repinning similar pins in the future?
Please feel free to get in touch should you have any questions. Thanks as always for supporting Pinterest.

Re: Pinterest
I think this dovetails nicely with the earlier conversation about some users' lack of exposure to the web because, really, that's nothing. Also, it seems silly that the site would delete a pin after one complaint. A lot of people are trigger happy.

Re: Pinterest
Pinterest should add a checkbox like deviantArt has that allows you to mark content that some may find objectionable. Then users could opt out of things that might abrade their delicate sensibilities.

I also find it weird because, you know, one pinner suggested to me by Pinterest posts 40's pin-ups, like all the time. Drawings of ladies wearing sheets and panties, totally fine, but hookers and crack? Crossed the line. Alright then. (I actually like getting 40's pin-ups, and I'm not sure how Pinterest figured that out, but I'm not complaining. It just strikes me as arbitrary.)

Holy cow, I have joined and it is so addictive! I am here and I have followed a whole bunch of you. So far mine is only just a shopping wish list.

Re: Pinterest
Something I don't get. I have an account but I don't follow anyone at the moment. But, when I pin stuff, I get repins and likes. I don't mind getting repins and likes but I'm curious where people are actually finding my pins. Are people sitting on the Everything feed reloading it for new stuff?

Re: Pinterest
Yep, that's what they're doing--plus they'll do searches and find board names/pins that way, too.

Re: Pinterest
I signed up for this because there happened to be one image I found extremely motivational as I have been on the quest to lose weight this winter -- it was something to the effect of, "After 4 weeks, you notice. After 8 weeks, your friends notice. After 12 weeks, everyone notices. Keep going." Basically, an exercise motivator. Pinterest's search SUCKS, so I haven't been able to find it again. I tried re-pinning it initially, but of course, I had to get a fucking invite first, and that took forever. By the time I was on, the image was gone. I found one permutation of it, but it was ugly. I have not been able to find it since, and I have decent search skills. It's been enough to turn me off. Then again, I said that about Twitter several years ago, and now use that more than Facebook. So.

Re: Pinterest
I searched google for "give it 12 weeks pinterest" -- when I found the image I went to the tumblr but didn't see it in the archive, so I just pinned it from the blog that reposted the image.

Re: Pinterest
I tried that too! My Google-fu is in a rougher shape than I thought.
This is actually the original image I saw, which of course shows up now.
Either way, thank you!

Re: Pinterest
I made the mistake of correcting a myth about cold water and dieting on a Pin, and now I am getting every bullshit piece of bad diet in my inbox from this "thread" (including someone repeating the exact thing I debunked). Is there an "unfollow conversation" button. Jay-sus.

Re: Pinterest
I once commented on a pic of a father squirting goat milk directly from the goat's udder into his child's mouth and was inundated by emails with newer comments until I deleted my comment, so I think the only way to stop getting emails is to delete the pin or comment.

Re: Pinterest
You can change that by going to Settings, Change Email Settings, and turning off whatever comment/pin/email notifications you don't want to get. I get none of them!

Re: Pinterest
Has anyone else had an influx of totally random people following you? It feels similar to the random followers on Twitter with thousands of following and no followers. Some of them do have things pinned to their boards, but it's never anything that indicates they'd be following me for my pin selections.

When I joined, they automatically signed me up to follow a bunch of strangers and I haven't gotten around to unfollowing them. Maybe that's why?

Yep. You apparently have some of the same interests as the new member and Pinterest selected you for them to follow. I've found a few people with some fascinating boards that way. Others not so much.

I've noticed the same thing lately, vwlphb. I automatically followed them back, until one of them started posted spam.
