Re: Death Pool
I'm crushed to hear this - 48? Jesus. There's a special place in my heart for Green Gables and Gilbert in particular. Jonathan was such a sweetheart in the role. My condolences to his family.
Re: Death Pool
I'm at work crying at my desk. I loved Gilbert Blythe and Jonathan Crombie so much growing up. And 48 is WAY too young.

This is so heartbreaking, and I feel like I keep seeing people (not here, obviously) almost making light of it. Like, it's silly to be sad about someone we all grew up loving and being too attached to? I don't know, maybe I just looked at Twitter at the wrong time, but this is a tragedy, full-stop. 48 years old. Jesus.

Re: Death Pool
Very sad. :( And speaking of being disrespectful, I saw some people quoting "I am in the depths of despair" and I don't think they MEANT to be disrespectful, but quoting that just kind of makes it sound twee and like they're joking.

Ellen Albertini Dow. Possibly best known as Adam Sandler's delightful meatball-paying, Rapper's Delight-performing student in The Wedding Singer. She was 101 and didn't start in the pictures until she was 70. That's pretty awesome.

Re: Death Pool
Noooooo!!!!!! I still say "MEATBALLS" randomly with eyes aglow and "I don't know how he stands it with all the nipple-twisting that goes on over there." She was one of the highlights of The Wedding Singer, which has myriad things to recommend it.dionneshea wrote:Ellen Albertini Dow. I always think of her as the Marble Rye lady from Seinfeld. 101 - that's a heck of a good run.

BB King dead at 89. It says he was recently hospitalized for diabetes-related complications, so I assume it was from that?

Lucille is a widow now.
I'm at the point now where I feel like where it's down to our last few R&B legends and am taking count of who's still left.

John Nash, the inspiration for "A Beautiful Mind," died along with his wife in a car accident yesterday. Very sad.

Anne Meara. I only know her from bits in her later years. I had no idea she was 85.

Not technically a celebrity but: Beau Biden dead at 46 from brain cancer. I'm filled with a deep terrible sadness for Joe Biden, and all the losses he has suffered.

This is the second child he has had to bury. How awful.

I just find that whole thing so unspeakably sad. I have irrational levels of love for Joe, and Beau was so young. His poor family.

That makes me really sad. It's not unexpected due to his age, but I almost expected him to be immortal. His World War II exploits sound amazing.
I still think Peter Jackson shortchanged him in the Lord of the Rings.

I was terribly sorry he didn't get to appear in Return Of the King-- both for story reasons and because he was such a Tolkien geek. It was nice to see Saruman in the Hobbit movies, all pre-evil. Also, whenever I read Terry Pratchett I imagined the voice of Death sounding exactly like Christopher Lee. I, too, kind of thought he was immortal.

I will always love him in the original Wicker Man. Plus, the man combined smooth English refinement with pure bad-assery.

Me, too, I was very sorry that they didn't do The Scouring of the Shire. I would have loved to see his Saruman again.I was terribly sorry he didn't get to appear in Return Of the King-- both for story reasons and because he was such a Tolkien geek.
RIP, sir.

It's great that he spent 70 years doing what he wanted.

Re: Death Pool
I remember a story from the LOTR set where he had to school Peter Jackson about what it sounded like when you stabbed someone in the back. PJ had Saruman reacting in a certain way, and Christopher Lee was all like, "Dude, you don't make sounds when you get stabbed in the lungs. You make this wheezing sound because the air is escaping." I have a feeling that comes from personal experience.
