I just read that today and was very excited. I bought the album yesterday after having Pompeii in my head for weeks.

Gallifrey Girl, I can't wait for them to come back to L.A. Cuz I wanna see them so badly! I wish I'd listened to them earlier last year so I could have caught their show when they were here. Expecting great things from them and from Jonah Hill when both are on SNL.

Wow. Drake was really, really good. Like, Timberlake level good. He made the weak material stronger, and was utterly believable in every single role. Lil' Wayne? Yeah. Universal Studios Indiana Jones show host? Absolutely. Thuggish high school student with a likely Oedipus complex? Yep. Katt Williams? Check. Fun but embarrassing hot dad? Yeah.
Also, Kate McKinnon should get some sort of Lesbians Who Look Like Justin Bieber lifetime achievement award.

Colin Jost to take over Weekend Update
I didn't even think about them having the head writer do this after they added like nine thousand new cast members.

Well, they did have to get another white male to balance out the black female they just added.

Good point. They should add a couple more, just in case.

After this week, I think they need to offer Aubrey "Drake" "Dracob" Graham a job. He cracked me up.

In fairness, it's not like they went out and hired him for this -- he is already on staff, as Tina and Seth were (and Cecily), and they probably auditioned everyone they had already and had to find somebody who could run point on the job without it taking away from regular sketch participation.

I really don't understand how you can do a sketch with Scott Hamilton commenting on figure skating and not have lots and lots of incoherent yelling. Missed opportunity. Figure skating gets so crazy and the joke basically was "lol straight dudes can't skate."

Re: Saturday Night Live
I caught it online today, since the TV listing I checked last night wrongly had it listed as a rerun. A solid episode, generally excellent WU, and while I'm not a Jonah Hill fan, I'll admit that he's a strong host. Also, I'm a sucker for the porn stars who do ads in the hopes of getting free stuff. The SoCal bros were right on target.

Re: Saturday Night Live
I thought that SoCal bros thing was kind of amazing.
Also, I have never had a remotely sexual thought about Leonardo DiCaprio (although I have admired his acting plenty of times), but when he stepped out there I was like "...Whoa. Handsome movie star." Maybe it was the comparison. (I thought that bit was pretty funny.)
I'm ashamed of it, but I legitimately laughed out loud multiple times at the game show thing. "You WENT ON TOP OF THE CLOG?"
On the other hand, I think I'm pretty much done on the porn stars, and the six-year-old comedian at Benihana one felt very very long.

Yeah, I like Leo as an actor but have rarely thought about him as attractive outside of, say, the sex scene in The Departed, but when he walked out on stage next to Hill, I had the same reaction. It might have been the comparison. Which is both funny and mean.
I will say Hill is a good host, enough to almost diminish my innate dislike of his face.
The opener was funny enough I'd like DiCaprio to host. I guess it's unlikely since he is a movie star and a dramatic one at that. But if he'd be willing to make fun of himself, they'd have a shit ton of sketches.

Yes, I'd love it for a dramatic actor A-lister to host and be willing to make fun of him/herself. They haven't had very many. De Niro? But I suppose he does more comedies these days, anyway. And Hanks, but he has a history with the show and a comedy background. Brad? Angelina? Meryl? Julia? Denzel?

He was on Growing Pains once upon a time.
I like the Benihana sketches just because it reminds me of me and my dad.
I guess next week is Seth's last show. I wonder if Stephon will stop by.

Ben Affleck is the closest example I can think of, though the A-list and dramatic aspects of his career have obviously varied over the years. He's hosted five times.

Re: Saturday Night Live
A cursory look through the list of hosts for the past six or seven years shows that there have been some A-list, primarily dramatic folk who have hosted. Matt Damon's hosted. And Clooney. Daniel Craig. Natalie Portman. Liam Neeson. Kate Winslet. Josh Brolin. (He's probably B-list.)
I think of the people listed above who haven't done it, Meryl Streep and Brad Pitt would be the most game. And fun.

Re: Saturday Night Live
Thanks for that list! I did like Affleck as a host, though I don't care for him as an actor. He was so goofy with those "Bennifer" t-shirts. I had to look up Clooney, I don't remember him hosting, but maybe that was because he hosted when he was George Clooney, tv star, and not George Clooney-summer-in-Lake-Como-movie-star? Love Matt Damon, and everyone knows he's game to make fun of himself. I was looking forward to the Daniel Craig one, but he was so awkward. Same with Liam Neeson. Didn't Pierce Brosnan host when he was A-list? Natalie Portman - I only remember her digital short, which was pretty good.
I would love to see Brad Pitt and Taran Killam do a Brad vs. Brad sketch.

Re: Saturday Night Live
I didn't love the episode. The Benihana sketch just isn't that funny to me, generally, and I was a little surprised they did a game show sketch that amounted to a poop joke. And I didn't really understand Killam's Brad Pitt impression; it was delivered like it's this spot-on thing he's super proud of, but I didn't understand the mannerisms he was adopting for it.
I do enjoy the weirder things that they have started doing, though, like the SoCal thing. Kyle Mooney really nailed that -- it's a subtle thing that he did with his voice. I couldn't really describe it to anyone, other than to say it was... just absolutely perfect.

Jude Law has done the show a couple times and Anne Hathaway is practically a regular. Edward Norton did the Halloween episode.

For someone who has a reputation of being difficult to work with, Norton seemed surprisingly game, and committed to the show.

Re: Saturday Night Live
Here's Rolling Stone's ranking of the 50 greatest SNL sketches. I'm still going through them, and of course, don't agree with a bunch of them, but the list is fun anyway. (Does anyone know how to have these listicle type web articles list on a single page or a couple of pages? Kind of like an internet Get Human shortcut.)

Re: Saturday Night Live
They will never let you view in one page, because when you view the 50 pages, they get to count you as 50 ad impressions. Woe. (Some long online articles let you do a Print-Friendly version where you can read the whole thing in peace, but they won't let you do that with list stuff...)
