I just heard this and literally screeched out loud. I am so sad. I adore him and am so sad. I was really loving having him back on my tv again.

Re: Death Pool
I think it's really cool that he got a career resurgence this year with the Dallas reboot before passing away. I'm sure he enjoyed returning to the screen and getting to be the guy everyone loved to hate again.

I have a hard time reconciling JR Ewing with Major Anthony Nelson from I Dream of Jeannie. It completely blew my mind when I realized the same actor played both characters.

I read that Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray were by his side when he died. Got a lump in my throat.

I never even watched either version of Dallas, but I always get such a kick hearing about how close he and Patrick Duffy were.

Re: Death Pool
Dallas was so much fun. It's weird thinking of the reboot as "Grandpa's last Christmas" now.
I hope he is burried wearing that Stetson.

Uh. I may have just realized that just this second. Need to sit down now. How did I never notice this?!big chicken wrote:I have a hard time reconciling JR Ewing with Major Anthony Nelson from I Dream of Jeannie. It completely blew my mind when I realized the same actor played both characters.
Can't believe he's gone, seemed like one of those people who would always be around.

Re: Death Pool
I am legit tearing up. I loved both I Dream of Jeannie and Dallas, and I loved that so many of the reviews of the reboot emphasized that Hagman was a DAMN great actor. Yeah his friendship with his costars was pretty special.
Re: Death Pool
I didn't watch Dallas much but I was a huuuuuuge fan of I Dream of Jeannie, which I used to watch pretty much every afternoon on Channel 56, along with Bewitched. I thought he was super handsome (and also I just had the weird realization that he reminds me of Joshua Jackson on Fringe). I enjoyed his constant eyerolly exasperation with everything.

Re: Death Pool
I couldn't believe it when I heard the news this morning. Dallas was a mainstay of my viewing growing up, and J.R. Ewing was the bad guy whom I would be aghast at his shenanigans but whenever it looked like he might lose Ewing Oil or something, I would immediately be aghast that he might succumb to the evil machinations of another! And that was due to Larry Hagman's portrayal of him.
Such sad news.

Re: Death Pool
Aww, how sad. He had a great run, though.
I met him once, 10+ years ago, when I worked for a symphony orchestra and he played one of our summer concerts. He was very nice, but frail, even then. I remember we were all really worried about him, because it was hot as balls that day, and there was no air conditioning.

Re: Death Pool
Sad about this. I met him when he played at my college (and our jazz vocal ensemble sang with him.) Such an neat man. In high school, our percussion ensemble did an award-winning all-Brubeck competition program. "Blue Rondo" was the first time I played vibes with four mallets, and it was a challenge, but a really fun one!

I used to see Senator Inouye at various events when I was growing up, and he was my nominating Senator to the AF Academy. He was a true hero who spent his life in the service of his country and the state of Hawai'i. Aloha, sir. RIP.
