TV Shows In Development
Every day in Los Angeles, literally thousands of spec scripts for shows land in the offices of various agents and talent agencies. Nearly everyone you meet, from the barista who hands you your latte in the morning to the gardener who blows the leaves around your apartment courtyard, has a wonderful and original idea for a tv series ready to be written, cast, and taped at the drop of a hat. This town is almost literally flooded with people who want nothing more than to have someone take a chance on their fresh, original, and sure to be successful ideas.
Which is, I'm sure, why CBS is going ahead with rebooting a moderately successful cult show that hasn't been off of the air for all that long.
Yep, there's going to be a next generation of Charmed, though likely not with any of the original cast.

Re: TV Shows In Development
I'm intrigued by the idea of a new Murder, She Wrote. I loved that show so much when I was a kid; it got me hooked on Agatha Christie.
Charmed? Eh. It could be ok. The original was a hot mess, but there's nothing wrong with the show concept. At least, not in theory.
According to the Futon Critic show development database, there are quite a few apocalyptic shows ordered to pilot. Amazon Studios ordered The After, a Chris Carter show. One of the characters is a professional clown. I'm sure that will end well. Outbreak, based on the movie of the same name, has a pilot production commitment. FX has Guillermo del Toro's The Strain, a scary-not-sparkly vampire story. There's also Zoo, which is apparently based on a James Patterson novel about animals going crazy and violently attacking people all across the globe. I hate James Patterson and this show sounds weird.

Gah, just because The Walking Dead is a big hit, doesn't mean every network needs a post-apocalyptic show! Hasn't anyone noticed that biggest hits drama-wise this year are all original series? Give people a good story, with good characters and people will tune in, even if the storyline is cooky (see: Sleepy Hollow).
I'm interested to hear about the Murder, She Wrote reboot because Octavia Spencer is awesome, and it would be cool to see her have her own show. However, I hope NBC has learned you can't just change the race of a character to reboot an old show (see: Ironsides). But once again, I think the concept of that show could have worked, but all accounts the writing wasn't very good.

It got a 13 episode order to premiere in July! Corey Stoll is playing Goodweather, so I will definitely be checking it out.FX has Guillermo del Toro's The Strain, a scary-not-sparkly vampire story.

Re: TV Shows In Development
Heroes is the kind of show that would have benefitted from being a miniseries when it started. There was too much filler and don't get me started on the ridiculous Cork accents and the fact that after waiting for 22 episodes for the characters to get themselves sorted, it was practically a reset when season two started. I hate when shows pull that shit. (I'm looking at you, Witchblade and Beauty & the Beast.

Off-topic, I know, but what happened to Beauty & the Beast? I stopped watching midway through season 1 because Vincent and Catherine had no chemistry and the show completely lacked any of the gravitas off the original.

Man, I LOVED the first season of Heroes. I was on my way to becoming an uber-fan until the season finale. Which was a total dud. And then season two happened which was even worse. I quit watching after that and sort of took the pov that I should never fall in love with anything until after the second season.

Re: TV Shows In Development
Re: Beauty & the Beast season one ended with Vincent & Catherine being a bona fide couple having to deal with Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes link, tenuously on topic!) also being a beast so him and Vincent fought (naturally) and then Vincent was kidnapped by the FBI, one of whom was Catherine's natural father. So we get to season 2 with Brad Kern as the new executive producer and we discover it's three months later, Vincent's been gone the whole time and when he comes back, his memory has been wiped and he's a whole new person i.e. complete and utter dick, who doesn't remember Catherine but is tasked by Catherine's FBI dad (unbeknownst to everyone) to kill other beasts. Because there's more of them out there and it seems like every other word in a sentence now is 'Beast'.
It wasn't the greatest show but I liked the first season, I liked them together. But Brad Kern reckoned they needed to earn their love so we've had this clusterfuck of a season which I've watched but not been invested in. Right now, Catherine and Gabe are practically a couple but now that Vincent is done with his dalliance with Tori (who was a beast too), he's trying to get her back. It won't make a third season because the ratings are bad and I'm not surprised with the way the story has been going.

Re: TV Shows In Development
I'm double posting but it's been almost a week and also this is news that needs to be spread:
Firstly, they are remaking the Poldark series with Aidan Turner cast as Ross Poldark. And by they, I mean the BBC.
Excuse me while I squeeeee!!! I've read a couple of the books and I really enjoyed the 1970s series. This is great news.
The BBC are on a roll tonight because they've just announced that they will be making two Agatha Christie adaptations: And Then There Were None & Partners In Crime.
Wheeee!!! (We are big Agatha Christie fans in this household).

Bryan Fuller left after the first season, and I think it shows. I think a lot of the interesting character moments in Season One were probably due to him, since that's what he does very well.

Awesome, they pretty much mined that vibe in 17 Again Lennon was the best part of that movie.

That probably has something to do with my posting the wrong link. Fixed.

That is much better news! Though, honestly, an alt-history SF series about the Confederate States of America isn't entirely out of my wheelhouse, which I thought might be what was going on at that other link.
