The Good Wife Empty The Good Wife

Post  BreezyK on Mon Oct 24, 2011 10:43 am

Finally a good episode last night! I love creepy Colin Sweeney, but I hope this doesn't mean too many more episodes of him, as a little goes a long way.

Celeste annoyed me MUCH less this week, but reminded me that I miss Kalinda and Alicia drinking together. I also just miss Alicia opening up a little bit. Her brother needs to be on more frequently if she's not able to confide in Kalinda because we need to see behind the mask a little bit.

Once again, I hate a Grace storyline. Whatever happened to her Jesus loving friend from last season? I like it best when the kids are being used to show how Peter and Alicia's choices are affecting them - like all of Zach's gf troubles and his reflections on how he may or may not be like his dad. For some reason, it doesn't seem like they know how to do that with Grace.

Alicia KILLED ME when Celeste was harping on about how she didn't like other women. I wanted to rewind and watch her pull that face over and over again.

The face she made was priceless. The whole conversation and Alicia's reactions were great.

I did like the reveal that Will had to vote with David Lee because David Lee helped him when it came to hiring Alicia. It was nice that they didn't go with "Will doesn't support her" angle.

Eli and Kalinda are a dream team. I enjoy their scenes together immensely.

Basically, I love this show and I have a girl crush on Julianna Margulies.

Whoa, I was surprised to see Parker Posey as Eli's ex. It was nice to get some personal background on him, but man, that was rough seeing him find out about her infidelity from Kalinda.

Will getting all nervous around Zach was hilarious! And then he turns around to walk out the office with his eyes closed all, "WTF did I just do?!"

I have to say I was seriously thinking that Cary getting shoved into a cubicle and feeling misused the whole ep was laying groundwork for him quitting and going back to Lockhart Gardner. Really disappointed at how wrong I was. But damn, that new office of his is sweet! Peter is definitely putting a lot of stock in him, which will be good because I feel that Matt Czuchry has been severely underused so far this season. It's almost like he's been bumped down o recurring status because he barely did anything in the first few eps.

I was actually rooting for Cary at the start of the ep, when the guy going on about diplomatic immunity demanded to know who he worked for, and he coolly responded, "the people of Illinois. Would you like their number?"

The new first-year/Don Draper's former date/Glee's sectionals judge is sort of growing on me (I figured out she had the job when she first showed up because she was an actress I actually recognized). Would love to know where her obvious crush on Will is going to go. (And yeah, Will's awkwardness around Zach was one of my favorite scenes this week.)

Though I gotta say: stoplight parties? Seriously, TV? I just hope they were looking for a way to make the "consensual make out or not" issue work in a clear visual way.

I think it's funny how much Will is clearly dying to be in a Serious Relationship with Alicia, who is working so hard to keep things easy-breezy casual. Tell Kalinda you don't have emotions all you want, Will, we all saw how hard you just tried to be cool with Zach!

Helloooo, Aaron Tveit. I always find it to be a wonderful surprise when he guests in a show I'm watching. I have a serious crush on that boy.

As for the rest of the show, I'm liking Caitlyn more and more. A lot of that is how much I enjoy that actress. I spent the entire episode kind of wanting to smack Bob Balaban, but that's nothing new.

Also, this may be a very unpopular opinion, but I'm just not invested in the Alicia/Will relationship. That aspect of the show is really starting to bore me. I'm glad she got her groove back, but now I just want those two done.

Carrie Preston is such a joy whenever she guests on this show. I love her character's quirkiness and how that contrasts with what a sharp lawyer she actually is. Watching her irritate and confound the Treasury monitor was hilarious! And Alicia imitating her hand gestures with the "Look at all this paperwork" line just cracked me up!

dionneshea, I've never seen any trace of heat between Will and Alicia. I don't mind their relationship because it's not so in-your-face as it usually is with most main couples on any given show, but they don't interest me in the least and they never have. I really enjoy pretty much all other relationship dynamics on the show far more than the Will/Alicia stuff. I think Will and Diane are insanely entertaining no matter if they're arguing or conspiring together. Romantically though, my heart belongs to Cary/Kalinda even though it seems most people hate the idea of that pairing and think it would be a total disaster if it ever played out on the show. (I may or may not have done an actual fist pump and squeed waaay out loud when I saw the preview for next week.)

I don't hate Kerry/Kalinda. They have good chemistry on screen. And I think I liked Will/Alicia better before they actually got together. It's not bad... but the limited amount we're getting now is plenty.

I actually hit the fast-forward button when the sexual harassment video started because I thought it was a commercial at first. It seems a little weird to me that people with law degrees might have to watch the same sort of cheesy video I've had to watch for low-level service industry jobs. Though I suppose a doctorate doesn't automatically mean someone would start understanding appropriate behavior if they didn't before.

The cupcake-obsessed Treasury guy amused me, and I loved the judge this week. "Because that is what I do with my Thursday afternoons." And yeah, Carrie Preston's character is turning out to be pretty good.

Also, what's up with the daughter's storyline? She doesn't have any friends, so I guess Jesus-girl is gone (but not the YouTube preacher dude), despite them keeping up with her religious awakening storyline? I could see her drifting apart from the other girl while still seeking out Bible studies, but I don't think they ever explained what happened with their friendship. (If they did, I was distracted by the more important stuff the grown-ups were doing.) Not that I care too much about the daughter's plotline, but if we're going to deal with her annoying ways (to her credit, she's much less annoying this season), I want some continuity.

I hope there's lots of Eli next week to make up for his absence (not that it mattered much, but I miss my weekly dose of Alan Cumming).

I thought that Diane would end up getting pissed off with Will and blurting out that she heard Alicia's ringtone when she called him early in the ep. I wonder when she'll be having that talk with him about what's been going on between him and Alicia.

My sis and I were busting up over the harassment video. The music was so incredibly cheesy just like real corporate videos.

And yeah, what happened to the weird girl Grace befriended? Did that just get ttoally dropped outta nowhere?

Not unpopular with me, I don't object to them, but I also don't care if they stay together. I think they had to go there if only to satisfy the "what if" in their minds, which can never really be slaked because the what if is about a specific moment in time when they were different people. The show seems to be aware of that though, she may not need a plan anymore, but Alicia probably still needs him to be...more than what he is.

Cary/Kalinda, OTHO, I'm a total goober about. I love them SO much.

I feel like the writers make almost zero attempt to make Grace come off as real actual kid/character, Zach fairs some what better but I wish they'd drop them if they can't bother to make them as fleshed out as everyone else.

Between this place and TWoP, I get the feeling I'm the only weirdo on the planet who actually likes Zach and Grace. I don't mind at all when they pop up, and I love seeing tem interact with Alicia and Peter. I can understand why others don't enjoy them, but I can't deny the fact that for some odd reason, I really like them.

Also, Kalinda and Cary (Kalary, as I call them) are where it's at! So glad to know that I'm not the only one who totally ships them here, blixie!

EDIT: I'm so dumb. I totally forgot I'd skipped an ep, and now I know what happened with Grace's tutor. I thought she just vanished ino thin air.

I'm over Alicia being OMGSHOCKED that criminals are not nice people, but otherwise I enjoyed the storyline. It was weird watching Leslie Uggams not blink for minutes at a time though.

And yes, BASTARD PEOPLE! But I have to give Cary props for recognizing the Kalinda play for once as soon as she initiated the second kiss. Not that I don't think Kalinda's attracted to Cary because she totally is, but she's so not going to let whatever feelings she has for Cary stop her from helping Will. And she will definitely use whatever feelings Cary has for her to help Will, too. I love Kalinda.

Also, I like Dana. I liked the actress on Lie to Me and thought she was the best thing about that show, and I like her here even though she's come out of nowhere. But BOO on the show for this "ethnic" women crap. It would be insulting if it wasn't so stupid.

I'm ignoring the ethnic women crap too. Um Cary did manage to resist Renee Elisa Goldsberg's character which is ironic given that on OLTL her character had a magic glittery hoo ha.

I have to give Cary props for recognizing the Kalinda play for once as soon as she initiated the second kiss.

Yeah but it was SO hot when he talked about her being inside his head, I was all don't hate the player, hate the game! Keep going, KEEP GOING! I'm really intrigued by the whole thing, including Dana. Loved Cary warning her that sexuality has nothing to do with whether you'll find yourself into Kalinda.

Alicia's attempts to manufacture morality where there isn't any is definitely getting tired. And Jackie continues to be a bitch, but an entertaining one.

Yeah, the shock over the horrible things criminals do is annoying, but ever since I did my re-watch of the first 2 seasons last spring, I've gotten increasingly agitated with Alicia being so shocked and indignant at the things that her fellow lawyers, even Will, have to do. I can't recall anything off the top of my head because I'm way too flustered over Cary/Kalinda, but the main point is that she often looks so unbelievably disappointed whenever he has to use some underhanded method to win a case. Lady, he's an attorney! He's supposed to do anything to get his client acquitted! But then there was that one time went along with Will's trick to get some gangbangers to pick up a gun that their client supposedly handled, and she didn't seem to have any problem with that. I don't get her sometimes.

But anyway, let's get down to the highlgiht of this entire episode, which was, of course, the final scene with Cary and Kalinda. I swear on my life that I was *channeling Chris from Parks and Rec* literally half a foot from my TV because I knew something schmexy would happen, and then when they kissed, I LITERALLY JUMPED UP AND DOWN, CLAPPING MY HANDS IN GLEE. I KID YOU NOT. And that "I know a lot of people who weren't something until they met Kalinda" line? KILLED. ME. DEAD.

Someone needs to put Fruit Ninja on Eli's phone. I think it would help him feel better.

Also, they are so getting the corn lobby. I can think of no other reason why Bryan Batt would have a three-second non-speaking role (unless they really cut the scene where Eli pitches the "corn is the heart" idea to them for time, and even then. But I swear Bryan Batt was sitting on the left side of the conference-room table. I could be entirely wrong and it was identical-looking extra, or maybe the actor's just THAT big a fan of the show, but the corn lobby choosing their side seems like the best way for Eli to make Fruit Lady rue the day, as he promised.)

Next week: Good-bye, Gracie! The evil part of me is wondering why you'd bother to find her. (And I guess Alicia's phone was on silent, because there is no way you can ignore "MOM PICK UP THE PHONE! MOM PICK UP THE PHONE!" twelve times.) My guess is it's somebody Peter pissed off? (It'd be an interesting twist if Lemond Bishop somehow got wind that the investigation was really after him. Or maybe Jackie really, really snapped. Personally I'd enjoy that even if I doubt the show would go there.) Though I don't know why this show has to have the obligate "missing kid" episode (sweeps?).

Alicia and Peter's other kid is probably happier than he'd ever thought he'd be that his parents split up. Well, until he fills up his first tank, anyhow.

Oh, and not only is Anika Noni Rose back, but Michael J. Fox as well? I keep getting more and more excited about this season. I love his character on this show so, so much.

Why must we have to wait 2 weeks for a new ep? WHYYYYYYYY? I really wanna see this Grace kidnapping drama already! Plus, unlike most TGW fans, I actually still like Peter, and it'll be very interesting to see him and Alicia agreeing on something for once rather than butting heads.

I want to like Dana, but something about her just irks me. It's like she's supposed to be all sexy and sassy, but she's just an irritant to me. I sorta wish we'd see less Dana and more Geneva. That said, I love Monica Raymond's hair though. I keep admiring it because it's so long and sleek and shiny!

That was my quess. They've dropped Jackie teasers before where Alicia tells her off and then nothing happens from it. But there was the repeated point brought up that Jackie was looking for any evidence that Alicia is an unfit mother. Paying off a guy to pretend-kidnap Grace would do the trick.

I like Peter too and also their dynamic last season when she was really ruling the roost. I think it's interesting that you say that they haven't been agreeing on things because I feel like they skipped RIGHT over all the anger/confusion of her ordering him to move out and went right to peacefully coparenting. She even said that to the kids last episode "Things between me and your dad are really calm right now" or something like that, and I was reminded that we really haven't seen too many fireworks as a result of her asking him to leave.

Yeah, you're actually right. I guess I just assumed that they'd be fighting offscreen ever since their showdown at the end of S2, but we really haven't seen any of that. They're quite civil and polite whenever they talk to one another, which hasn't happened much so far this season anyway. I'm seriously excited to see how each of them will face the kidnapping situation and also how they'll work together to coordinate some effort to retrieve Grace.

Grace is lost! Kidnapped! Disappeared! Except she's not, she's off being baptized! So Alicia MUST break up with Will! Alicia's dream told her so!

WTF?!? Of all the reasons she and Will needed to break up, that's what they go with? And it just so happens to play into Alex P. Keaton wanting Alicia to come work for him? AND ultimately leads to Alex P. Keaton getting a leg up on a case? A case which was wholly boring and went off the rails by starting off being about the two newbies and ended up...I don't know where.

I won't even get into the meta commentary of Eli literally searching for something to do at LG.

God this episode sucked.

Jennifer Carpenter was wasted in that ep. She's a fantastic actress and didn't do shit as the plaintiff.

Once it had been determined that Grace was somewhere in the South Side, I had a feeling she'd be with that YouTube guy that she's so into.

I'm guessing Julianna just got her next Emmy nom with the tears from last night's ep. I actually felt like crying myself just watching Alicia (who annoys me more with each passing ep) get so worked up. Damn, JM can sell maternal heartache! BTW, why did Alicia break up with Will at work? Doesn't that kinda make it obvious that they had something going on with her leaving his office in tears? Not that anyone besides Diane apparently noticed anyway. Oh, and her hugging Peter was so sad and sweet. I'm probably the only person who had liked the idea of them mending their relationship in S1 and most of S2. I was way more intrigued by their dynamics than her and Will's.

Anyone else excited about Kalinda's arrest next week? That oughta be fun! And it looks like Alicia will get in Cary's face about it (partly out of personal concern, I'm sure, and not just because of the firm), so perhaps this can be the start of her and Kalinda hashing things out?

I was satisfied by the resolution of Will's ethical issues this week, and then Wendy Scott Carr says she's going to the bar! Can't we put this one to bed, show? I have a hard time imagining Will is really going to be disbarred (though I think he did have an understanding with the judges), and anything short of it feels anticlimactic and drawn-out at this point.

I did love how this episode played out though. I almost cheered when Kalinda turned the tables on Dana. I liked Dana a lot when she was introduced but she has gotten under my skin with all her thinking she can play Kalinda. And then the slap! Seems like she can dish it out but not take it.
