Re: Game of Thrones
Well, he's like a thousand years and also a fictional world away from me, so that doesn't do me much good. I do wonder if I'd like him more if he were played by a less tedious actor.
I think so. Jon is one of my favorite characters in the books, and I've tried to like this actor and I do like him so-so but it could have been so much better.
Speaking of actors, the actor who plays Littlefinger sucks in this role. I can't stand him, in the hate-to-hate way.

Well, it's a good thing they showed us just how brutally and tortureporny Joffrey killed Ros. I wasn't entirely clear on just what a complete and utter little shit he was until then, but now I'm no longer confused! Thanks, show!

Re: Game of Thrones
I haven't read the books, but I do agree that he delivers all of his lines in the same smarmy tone of voice. Like, there is no nuance whatsoever to his words. Is Littlefinger supposed to be more ambiguously bad in the books? Because this Littlefinger has been pretty much twirling his moustache and cackling since the second he appeared on screen, so to speak.Speaking of actors, the actor who plays Littlefinger sucks in this role. Oh dear, what is going to become of Brienne? What is going to become of Jaime and Brienne? Because I love those two together.
I did NOT expect Ros to die. Not that she's terribly important to the plot, but I feel like this officially pushes Joffrey into psychopath territory. Has he ever killed someone before with his own hand (as opposed to just ordering it)?
Olenna and Tywin. My love for awesomely bad-ass characters (and awesomely bad-ass characters TOGETHER!) continues.

Jamie and Brieeeeeeeeeeenne. The show has made me ship them in a way the book didn't. Drat. I loved the rains of Castemere playing over Jamie.

Please! They wanted to reassure us that even though Ros maybe gone, but the show is still committed to gratuitous nudity.ulkis wrote:

Re: Game of Thrones
I couldn't care less about gratuitous nudity, but the gratuitous torture is another thing. Last night I found myself thinking that maybe I'd just stop watching entirely if they keep going with it.
Favorite bits last night? Tie between Tywinand Joffrey's conversation (loved Joffrey recoiling just a bit as Tywin got close) and Margaery and Sansa's conversation. I like Sansa much more on the show than in the books.

Re: Game of Thrones
Twyin was amazing and even *I* was afraid of him in that moment and he's a fictional character!
Sansa reminds me that she's so young and has been told all these idealistic things about chivalry and her life since entering kings landing has been the polar oppositve of those ideals. I feel so sorry for her.
I'm worried about Arya! She had better best that big oaf and get away.
Jaime and Brieanne. He saved her from Bart the Bear!
The Theon torture has made it so I watch this show off the DVR. I just can't do that much torture.
I was waiting for something really bad to happen this whole episode. There is no way all this happiness can be had without something terrible coming and when nothing did I found myself so relieved.

Re: Game of Thrones
I'm so tired of Theon's torture. I wanted him to be punished for what he did but seriously at this point it's just overkill. I don't even see where they can go from here. What is the point? Once we got Theon's confession of why he took Winterfell and that he thought of Ned Stark as his real father, I lost interest in all the torture. Let's move on.

Re: Game of Thrones
I want to be interested in why Theon is being put through all this - why his captor is doing it - for it to be worth watching all that. But as the clues are few and unreliable, it's very difficult. It can't be that he's just a random psychotic, a medieval Hannibal, there must be some agenda. Even Danyeris' story, though completely isolated from the rest of the action, is clearly connected.
(I find it fascinating that Ms Clark and Co might as well be doing a separate show. At least Harrington spent some time interacting with some of the other cast.)

Re: Game of Thrones
I like how they focused on more Jaime and Brienne this episode, much to my happy surprise. This episode really toyed with my expectations of the show itself. On any other show I would have figured the guy would go back and save the girl. But this time I was SURE that their goodbye in the cell was the last we would see of the two of them together, and that she would be killed. (PS. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau really nailed it *again* in that scene, especially the expression on his face when she called him Ser Jaime. He is a seriously good actor.) When he was learning about her fate back at Harrenhall, I STILL thought there was no freaking way he was going back for her. By the time he jumped into the bear pit I was about two feet away from my TV screaming and cheering.
Also, I loved Tywin so subtly putting Joffrey in his place with his physical presence. However, I also liked how Joffrey was actually right about something (the threat that Daenerys poses) because it allowed us to see just a teeny-tiny glimmer of where Tywin's future weakness might lie. But for now, he's kicking ass and taking names.
The Theon scenes don't bother me.

Me neither. I mean, they BOTHER me, but not as in "Nope, not watching that."
I loved Jaime's outrage that they hadn't given Brienne a proper sword. He knew she could've kicked that bear's ass if she'd been armed with a real sword.

Oh, I FF from boredom, not from graphicness. But since I FF them I don't know how graphic it's gotten, so maybe I would be skipping because it were graphic as well if I watched it, heh.

Re: Game of Thrones
I thought this last episode was a lot less graphic on the Theon front, but then I tend to avert my eyes when he's on screen now, so maybe I missed something awful.

Re: Game of Thrones
If the endgame isn't Dany on the throne with Brienne as the head of the Queensguard and Arya as the Hand of the Queen, I'll eat my hat.
Re: Game of Thrones
Has anyone set a GoT fanvid about those three to "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves" yet?

I think Sansa would probably make a better hand of the king. Arya is more hotheaded. She can be in the Queensguard with Brienne.

Yeah, I spent the last ten minutes of the episode whimpering, with my hands over my eyes. And I knew it was coming.
Poor Arya really needs to sit out the second to last episodes; she always gets traumatized in some horrific way.

Re: Game of Thrones
I knew something awful was coming because my cousin called me before I could watch it freaking out. He called twice to see if I'd finished watching it.
My heart is broken. My King In The North is dead. Nooooo!! And Grey Wind! And even Cat, who was right about Walder this whole damn time. So did that fool Edmure make it out? And what about the Blackfish? I hope he's ok. I am wondering what the Hound is going to do with Arya now.
I will have to say I'm glad I was never warned of Robb and Cat's deaths the way I was with Sean Bean in the first season.

I need Roose Bolton to die in the worst possible way. The thing is with a guy like that it's like what do you do to hurt him, since he's such a cold stone nutcase.

Re: Game of Thrones
I knew it was coming too, but I thought it'd be the finale. When I started to see the flailing on Twitter I thought I'd better watch it tonight.
Damn, damn damn. That was hard to watch.
Elsewhere, I gotta say the sacking of Yunkai was a little lame, even though I'm sure they spent all the episode's money on fake blood. I know they fought a bunch of guards, but it was a little no-budget stage play. "Let's fight all these guys in the same spot! More guys! More!" Cut to Dany. "Good news, we fought a bunch of guys and then we went into the city and took over the whole thing and all these slaves surrendered! You're welcome."
I couldn't help but wonder how Larry is doing. (language warning)
