Re: Television Guilty Pleasures
I've never heard of the show until now, but maybe the honcho likes cupcakes? I can imagine the pitch. "Hey, Bob, you want to spend a day eating cupcakes and call it work? Grab a camera and lighting crew, get over here next tuesday."Surely, said honcho has about a billion more things to do that day than taste freaking cupcakes?

Seriously. It's right up there with poker on tv - which for the life of me I do not get the appeal.

My guiltiest pleasure right not is ex gay porn star Fredrick on Million Dollar Listing: NYC, he is just entertaining as hell even when he's being a high pressure ADD slime. I love him messing with Michael just for fun, and the dude seriously loves the work, and gets a major charge out of negotiating a deal. I thought it was really interesting to see how chill he became when working in Sweden. He only had to be Fredrick on 6 instead of Fredrick on 10.

I watched a marathon of this show for the first time last week while recovering from getting my wisdom teeth out. I don't know if it's the vicodin talking, but Fredrick was GOLD. I need to watch more of this show.

I don't get the appeal of poker on TV either.
And yet I can't stop..

Fredrick was GOLD.
I just love how completely he owns that he used to work in gay porn, like ex-soap star Ryan tried to shake him up, and Fredrick's all, 'Yep. So, your counter offer is what now?" I also love how not precious he is, like putting on that little chef hat and dancing/singing while baking Swedish goodies at his open house (which totally made me think of Cher in Clueless, ha)? If I had 4 million dollars to spare, and wanted to own property in Manhattan or Sweden, Fredrick would totally be my broker.
Re: Television Guilty Pleasures
Anyone here ever seen Showtime's reality show, Gigolos? It's absolutely hilarious at times! There's one gigolo named Jimmy that I could swear was a sociopath at first. He'd smile and say the right things, but there was such a creepy, hollowness to his eyes. And with his floppy hair, he reminded me so much of Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman! After watching all of S1 though, Jimmy's my fave of the guys now. My other fave is Steven, who wears nothing but suits, apparently, and actually made me tear up in the first few eps whenever he'd talk about his young son. He totally reminds me of John Mayer though, which is not exactly a plus.

I am more than a little obsessed with Dance Academy. I was sold when I realized it was basically Australian Center Stage, but it's also just the right mix of soapy teen drama and ballet. Abigail is my bitchy favorite and Sammy my nice favorite. Plus I finished season one just in time for season two to appear on netflix. Magic!
I am also loving the hell out of The L.A. Complex, which I didn't even know existed until I stumbled on it while on the elliptical. So many Canadian favorites are on the show, including Manny from Degrassi, Jamie from Instant Star, Catalina from Space Cases (aka Kaylie from Firefly), and others I'm sure I'm missing, plus it's produced by Linda Schuyler, who basically makes all the best shows. I really like all the characters, and all kinds of things happen that would normally be fodder for Very Special Episodes but are instead treated with Degrassi casualness (i.e. a storyline in the first episode hinges on the morning after pill). And it's just so good. Is anyone else watching this?

I'm obsessed with it too! I've been tearing through season 2 at an alarming rate. Tara kind of gets on my nerves at points, but I have to give them credit for coming up with a pretty realistic teenager. Christian, on the other hand, is smoking; please tell me the actor is legal, at least.choubetcha wrote:I am more than a little obsessed with Dance Academy. In sadder news, I learned that Make It or Break It is having its series finale next week, meaning we'll never get to see the Olympics. Completely heartbreaking, especially since I think the switch-up in format is really working this year.

I'm watching this too. You could tell that it's really flying under the radar because there have been no calls to shame advertisers due to its content. It really pushes the envelope as far as the CW is concerned.
I like to pretend that Abby is actually Manny and this is just a continuation of her story.

Lost Girl. Specifically, Anna Silk's boobs. They are mesmerizing. And Kenzie wins everything all the time. She's my favorite tv character at the moment. Even though she does dumb stuff sometimes it's just like an adorable kitten who knocked something over or climbed up too high and then can't get down.

Totally! I'm surprised by how much I enjoy that show. Kenzie really is the cutest thing and I love her and Bo's friendship. Also, I love how Bo, the main character, is bisexual and it's totally not even a big deal. Like, it's only one part of her character and her relationship with Lauren isn't any more sensationalized than her relationship with Dyson is. Yes, good.

Ooh, I'm looking for a show to mainline to fill the hole in my heart The Vampire Diaries will leave this summer. I was thinking Lost Girl or Nikita. What do you think?

I'd go Lost Girl if you're in a fun/fantasy type mood or Nikita if you're in a serious/real world type mood. They're both good, just very different. I think Lost Girl is closer in tone to TVD, but certainly not identical.

Re: Television Guilty Pleasures
Good choices! Both are really good and now that I think of it, have a lot of similarities, right down to the cute Russian side-kick. I think Lost Girl is more fun but Nikita is more consistently awesome and deftly handled. Both have great female friendships, I love that.

I haven't watched Wife Swap in ages, but when it first began, I was hooked on that show! (Same goes for Supernanny. That show was awesome!)

Re: Television Guilty Pleasures
WAG Nation, a Real Housewives-type show following around 5, well, wives and girlfriends of players from various sporting codes. I normally give a wide berth to reality TV, and this show isn't great. They all work in fashion, they're all kind of pointless, and I hate all the air-kissing, but I can't switch off. One of the women is hot in a Maxim bikini model kind of way, but she's deluded herself into thinking she could be a fashion model even though she's 23 and...let's just say that if she didn't have the body and the hair she wouldn't have much. Watching her being politely rejected by a modelling agency and then cheerfully laugh about it and declare that she's going to keep trying has been embarrassingly compelling.

Hole lee crap Ghost Adventures is ridiculously hilariously terrible and yet I can't stop watching it and it's Ed Hardy wearing, Bieber haircut sporting tool of a host.

Mob Wives Chicago didn't suck me in with its first ep. I'm hoping it'll soon become crack to me like the original MB is.

Total Blackout on SyFy. It's hilarious watching people psych themselves out in the dark.
