I hope Bielema stays and coaches through the Rose Bowl. I think he owes it to the team and I would definitely think less of him if he left before that game.

Prick Neuweasel picked up his baggage here. He's a widely despised figure in Boulder, but when he was hired he was the boy genius. Besides after The Ordeal and the Embree debacle there's no way Mike Bohn can blow this hire.mrinsouciance wrote:I keep wondering where Bobby "Easy Rider" Petrino will end up next. Maybe Colorado? They already had Slick Rick Neuheisel as their coach a few years ago, so it's not like they've never hired someone with plenty of baggage
Petrino is headed to Auburn.

Nope, Auburn hired one of their former assistants that coached at Arkansas State this past year. Just announced it today.

Re: Football
Well, Tennessee is the only SEC school that hasn't hired anyone yet. Good money is on Louisville's Charlie Strong to get it, but that's only if the fanbase has picked themselves off the floor after getting shot down turned down by Jon Gruden. But I guess if they're feeling especially masochistic, Petrino would still have a shot.
Poor Arkansas State cannot catch a break. First Hugh Frieze leaves to be the head coach at Ole Miss and now Gus Malzahn leaves to be Auburn's HC. Maybe that's the school you need to go to for head coach training.

No one can hire Petrino because of the EEOC nightmare he left behind at Arkansas. Oh, and tht he is a total prick. I know Tennessee alums who would walk over hot coals for him, though.

Charlie Strong decided to stay at Louisville.
Colorado is courting Butch Jones of Cincinnati. If I were him, I think I'd pass.

Re: Football
I find myself actually feeling sorry for Tennessee fans. They've got a great school and a storied program, but their administration and athletic department are being run by the Tweedles, Dee and Dum. I mean, they're still paying out contract money for Phillip Fulmer and now Derek Dooley. I have no idea about what kind of money they gave Lane Kiffin but he was only there one season before bolting for Southern Cal. They can't have much cash left in the till.

he did... After accepting. I laugh at the language of coaches installing discipline and making players better people when at the college level they are such weasels.mrinsouciance wrote:Charlie Strong decided to stay at Louisville.

The latest:
Colorado hires San Jose St.'s MacIntyre. Seems about right;
Tennessee lures Butch Jones away from Cincinnati;
Tommy Tuberville bolts Texas Tech for Cincinnati.
That last one, I really do not get. Tech to Cincy seems like a step back (albeit a modest step back) in prestige.
ETA: And Easy Rider Petrino ends up at Western Kentucky!

I really was expecting 10-6 and the division title this year for the Broncos.

Just another in a long line of examples why the SEC is quite literally in a league of its own. Everyone else is the JV.

Re: Football
He's trying to spin it was an online relationship and he was tricked but he definitely claimed to have spent time with her face to face in Hawaii. The current explanation is not going to wash, the next step will be going to rehab, or coming out, claiming that he made up the girlfriend because of all the pressure to be hetero as a football player/Mormon/Notre Dame student.

Yeah how on earth do they think the story can fly when he told people they met in person after a ND/Stanford football game. It's all so very weird.

Re: Football
Yeah, that doesn't make sense at all. The ND Athletic Director just gave a press conference - during which he CRIED because of poor, poor Manti and his fragile feelings - and claimed that Manti was tricked! Bamboozled! But it just doesn't make sense. He was complicit in this in some way, at the very least lying to his parents about having met her and allowing his dad to go on about that to the media. If that's as much as it was - that this elite college athlete was in an almost year-long relationship with a woman he'd never met in person (o rly), and that he was "embarrassed" to admit that, but more than willing to embellish their story for maximum publicity/sympathy, then he's gross at best. At worst, he orchestrated the whole thing, along with this friend of his.

Re: Football
I feel for the woman who had her pictures hijacked by the other guy. That has always been something on my mind whenever I post my picture online. It must have been a shock to see her face on TV as a dead woman, and to modify the pictures so they could not be traced back to her? The lengths they went to make this "girlfriend" real sounds more like an orchestrated plot to cover up something than a troll trying to fool a college football player.

Re: Football
Although it's certainly possible he did this to closet himself, I'm sure this was a publicity/sympathy Heisman grab that blew up in their faces. It's pretty disgusting that in he ends his statement reminding people that he's prepping for the NFL draft. People who believe he had absolutely nothing to do with this are deluding themselves.
This is the male version of the attention hoooooooor. So bizarre.

I wonder what efffect this will have on his draft position. It's kind of unprecidented.
Couldn't he find a better way to closet himself like marrying Liza Minelli or join Scientology?

If it was about closeting himself, it's impressive that he essentially served as his own beard.

Re: Football
It just isn't necessary to have a beard as a college athlete. I'm sure reporters ask about girlfriends, but I honestly don't know the relationship status of any college football player (other than AJ McCarron, and that's only because of the BCS Championship Game). All you have to say is, "No, there's no one special in my life right now. I'm focused on the game." They don't air that question, because it's boring, and no one cares.

Re: Football
So does Manti Teo have Munchausen by Internet/Proxy? The sports station in town is determined to believe he "got duped", and that the media had no responsibility to fact check this huge personal narrative. Now maybe that's true (when it comes to human interest stories), it doesn't seem like it would be true, but the thing I really can't believe is that no one pursued it further, if only to milk it more. Like pay her family to show up to the BCS, get their own independent quotes from the family/hospital staff about these heartbreaking 8 hour conversations...

No, but being from a conservative Mormon family it might be.
