Re: Death Pool
MariaElena Fernandez of The Daily Beast saying she has cancer. TMZ weighed in on the side of gravely ill as well.
Did anyone know she was sick? I have to say I'm surprised to hear it. She always comes across so vibrant to me.

Re: Death Pool
HuffPo is sticking with gravely ill, though they're also saying that funeral plans have been made.
EDIT: Now they're saying that she's dead. R.I.P. Her works may not have been to my taste, but I can't deny that she was a master of what she did.

Re: Death Pool
I can't say I'm a fan of her work aside from When Harry Met Sally, but still, that's terribly sad news. She seemed like a nice lady.
ETA: I'm sad about Ann Rutherford, too. I used to watch Andy Hardy movies at my grandmother's house, so when I read that article all I could think was, "Aw, not Polly Benedict!"

I always felt her essays were better than her screenplays.

Re: Death Pool
One of the channels was showing a Matlock/Diagnosis Murder crossover episode the other day and it got me wondering how Andy Griffith was doing. So sorry to hear this.

NOOOOO!!! There goes yet another part of my childhood, watching reruns of The Andy Griffith Show. Ron Howard must be devastated. So very sad!

Re: Death Pool
I loved watching The Andy Griffith Show in the summers over lunch when I was a kid. This one hurts, but it helps to know what a wonderful life he led and how many shows and movies he left behind to enjoy.

He always came across as so charming and gentle. A great television role model when I was younger.

95? That's a helluva run. And, man, did I love McHale's Navy back in the day.

In his memory, I must share that he maintained in many interviews that the secret to his longevity was masturbation.
Re: Death Pool
I don't even want to contemplate that with Momo and my grandma (who lived to 99).
Not that I'm against old people and sex, but more well...the patron saint of SF and my grandma.

Ernest Borgnine and Matlock! No!
At least they both had a good run, as naughty zoot said.

Re: Death Pool
All kidding aside, if you haven't seen Marty, go watch it as soon as possible. So heartbreaking.
He was also pretty amazing as such a completely different character, Fatso, in From Here to Eternity.See, dogs like us, we ain't such dogs as we think we are.

Re: Death Pool
I'm reasonably familiar with his earlier work, but I was first introduced to Ernest Borgnine as Dominic Santini in Airwolf, and that's how I'll always fondly remember him.

Re: Death Pool
He was also active for a very long time. He was in the finale for ER and was just devestating in it. I have a huge fondness for the move Marty, (I've gone on tangents about it to both Skyblade and Gen) so I strongly second that recommendation.

Celeste Holm died today. Among other things, she was in All About Eve, won an Oscar for Gentleman's Agreement, and was the fairy godmother in the tv version of Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren.
