Re: Celebrity Feuds
Like, I ain't Captain Save A Lawrence. I overall enjoy her. Shes a great actress and seems lovely as a person, but like I ain't ride or die for anybody that ain't Tom Hanks or Missy Elliot, but she is someone who has gotten a lot of shit about her weight.

Kiran wrote:I think another thing to think about is that most of these actresses are asked a LOT about their weight. And its really micro analyzed (Keira Knightley successfully sued a tabloid that blamed her for a girl dying from anorexia.) At the end of the day Jennifer Lawrence is asked a LOT about "her curves" and shes personally been attacked by the fashion police. So I think her basically saying "please stop using that as an insult" is not a negative in anyway.
I still can't get over Joan referring to this outfit as "she looks like an in cased sausage" tbh. Like. Shut up. You are the problem. Like I find Joan fascinating, I loved her documentary, shes done a lot for comedy but all she does is come for women's weight lately.
wtf? the dress is bad, but cased in sausage? no. not even close

Re: Celebrity Feuds
Joan Rivers has always been nasty about other women's appearances. She was absolutely vile about Elizabeth Taylor way back when. Her comments, when combined with her obvious obsession with plastic surgery, make me think she's got some serious issues.

Re: Celebrity Feuds
I feel like her options are to pretend like no one has ever bothered her about her body or acknowledge that they have and that she thinks it's terrible. I don't begrudge her or anyone in Hollywood the right to say that they've had enough of it, no matter what their dress size might be. What's frustrating is when the media then spins it like she represents average-sized women, when obviously she's not average-sized. But that's not her fault any more than it was Winslet's before her.

Re: Celebrity Feuds
The NY Mag piece touches on this, but the most telling thing about the "she's too big to play Katniss!" complaints is that nobody's ever said anything about Josh Hutcherson or Liam Hemsworth, who are far from scrawny. Like, if there's one thing I'm certain of, it's that the Hemsworth brothers had access plenty of protein while they were growing.

Re: Celebrity Feuds
Whilst didn't love Jennifer Weiner's Certain Girls, the only one of her books I have read (I am so over body image issues in chick lit), but she's a far better technical and emotionally honest writer than many in the genre. Â
I love how bitchy (or more accurately, honest about their likes and dislikes) the literary world is, compared to say, Hollywood, where people who talk in the press about about missing out on roles, lack of publicity and treatment by others stars are (rightly or wrongly) Â publicized as assholes, whiners and humorless (see Katherine Heigl, Melissa Leo, Taylor Swift). Â For people who think Weiner, Jonathan Franzen and Jeffrey Eugenides should have a threesome and get it over with, this is a good read from The New Yorker.
As for Jennifer Lawrence, she is not a particularly intelligent person. Â Stopping use of the word 'fat'? Â FFS. The problem isn't the word fat. Â Fatness is not in and of itself a bad thing. Â It is just fatness. Â Some people are fat. Â Many accept it without self-loathing. Â The problem is that fat people are treated as invisible and as moral failures. Â Jennifer doesn't realise, as a skinny girl who is hurt that the concept been misguidedly attributed to her, that by wanting it to be illegal to call people fat on TV, she is playing into the social abuse that fat people receive. Â I cannot support her ethically intellectually hollow views in any way.
Her surprising number spurious comments and actions have been largely ignored by the press as she is a natural charmer who is marketed as the world's BFF. Â The weight thing is the only real negative attention she has received, so she probably has trouble dealing with public opinions that are not complimentary. Â Jennifer's poorly thought out reaction is not about the media, but about her own body image and ego. Â She is an extremely privileged woman and an extraordinary success, and it's a matter to discuss with her therapist instead of Barbara Walters. Â What concern I have for a celebrity is not for someone who gets the cover of Vogue's September issue and a Christian Dior contract. Â I am with Crowbridge. STFU, JLaw.

Why do I read the comments? Seriously, WHY? You'd think I'd have learned by now.

I'm so glad the comments enlightened me about why Clooney got engaged. I hadn't realized he was retaliating against Stacy Kiebler.

Yes. Â Obviously the love of his life who ditched him, or something. Â No way that this was a friendly arrangement between a huge star who loves being seen with beautiful women and a beautiful woman who enjoyed the perks of being the paramour of a handsome A-Lister. Â Also no way that it ended congenially once she decided that she was ready for something with more of a future.

Is George writing letters again? I love the letters more than his face! Let the kids get married, and give him and op-ed column! It's alllll good.

I cannot wait to find out what the hell was going on. That was nuts.

I like that Bey is standing passively in the middle like she doesn't know either of them.

Getting involved in that could have been dangerous to her family, to her marriage, and, worse, to her makeup.

Jay and Bey react like this is not the first time they've experienced one of Solange's tirades.

I see someone at the New York Daily News is unfamiliar with Martin Luther King and Macolm X.

I hadn't thought of it that way at all, but looking at the footage again, it looks like they're basically just watching a kid throw a tantrum again. It's very odd.Arabella wrote:Jay and Bey react like this is not the first time they've experienced one of Solange's tirades.
